When a congressional aide is killed, a Washington D.C. journalist starts investigating the case involving the congressman, his old college friend.

At the end of the movie, as McAffrey types his scoop, we see that he has written that the police went to Bingham's apartment and found that he had taken his own life. However, a few minutes earlier, we saw him killed in a shoot-out with the police.
The printing process of a newspaper is shown as the ending credits start to show up.
