First of talk about major continuity error. The Attempt here was to utilize the style that Tarantino has exploited so much, not invented but exploited. Which is too show You the conclusion of the film first, and then watch how things amount.One grave error though, the snail is on the concrete at the beginning while everything is occurring, and in the end its in her hand while everything is occurring when u see the movie you'll see why its of such importance!! Though some on here say its much like crash without stereotypes true for every race except those of Latin origins...WTF? could it have been any more De-meaning for any Hispanic person? They tried to save it by putting Karla character as half Latin!!but just not that believable But overall it is a good movie just those two issues listed above were wrong in my stand-point opinion.....watch it its a good attempt and rare at times...enjoy

johninla11 October 2009this is a very LA movie - even if the actual scene of the climactic crash was filmed north-east of Pico, in Boyle Heights - and one can feel that all the characters are real, not stereotypes. Even though I, as belonging to only one ethnicity/culture, and have only lived in LA south of Pico for a decade I cannot claim to be an expert, but an informed observer.
Our cultures here are very isolated compared to San Francisco or New York. But, yes, people in LA do come together in occasional and random ways, like maybe at a Dodgers games (not Lakers - no working man can afford that and still make his rent) and yes, you cannot predict how it's going to turn out. Just like this movie. South of Pico makes your heart break, for the characters, for all the people of LA who live side by side in our cities and ghettos, walled mansions, enclaves, hoods and gated estates but rarely together. -
LesStrater30 September 2008I watched this movie based on the good reviews here, and I won't make that mistake again.
The first couple minutes shows that a group of people have been brought together by some tragedy, but you don't see what it is. Flashback 12-hours and we get to see the boring lives of each of these people, which in the end are totally meaningless to what is about to happen. When the ending is finally reveled, you realize that you just wasted an hour of your life waiting for a big payoff that doesn't happen and means nothing to what you have been watching. The only connection these people have is that they have all had a "bad day"--but even that continuity gets lost in the boredom.
If this was supposed to be a "Crash" clone, it's a complete failure. -
hpmc65 February 2011I saw 'Crash' when I couldn't find anything else to rent, and found that it was better than I expected.
So I gave this one a chance, and found it to be a pretty cheap imitation - it really revealed what a break the 'Joan' role in 'Mad Men' was for the actress, if she was doing stuff like this the first year of that TV series.
Basically, you suffer through pointless alternating vignettes of warmed over Hollywood clichés, that build nothing toward the plot until you arrive at the 5 minute so so ending the whole movie was setting up for. There's really nothing more worth saying about this one. -
SweetNSassy2116 September 2008I have to be honest I only heard about this movie because LiL'J is in it. And even though I never really heard of this movie I went out and brought the DVD.I was told this was a good movie and I wanted to see for myself. But it REALLY was. People will say it's just like CRASH OK maybe it is but it really is a good movie. It's funny how everything and everyone in the movie connected at the end. You will see a lot of familiar faces in here, I found myself saying "wait isn't that" or "I saw him in such and such" I found myself laughing while watching J, not because he's a bad actor he has MAJOR skills. But it was a different side of him, which is what acting is all about. He wasn't the cute guy from the "Disney Channel" and people will see the versatility in his acting.
I'm not going to tell what happened all I can say is.. GET YOUR COPY OF SOUT OF PICO!!!! You won't regret it! -

They should have given it more credit, but, it's a classic and we all love watching it.
Amazing cast.
New talent that is about to make it big as Angel Princess, pay attention to this girl, future award winner.
