Exclusive: ABC has put in development a U.S. version of the praised British comedy Suburban Shootout. Byron Balasco will write the hourlong adaptation of the half-hour original, a dark comedy about a woman who escapes the city and her past for suburban bliss only to discover she (with the help of her new neighbors) has to resort to using unconventional methods and her past skills to achieve the life she so desires. ABC Studios is producing with Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and Laurence Bowen and Philip Clarke’s Feelgood Fiction, the company behind the British series that controls the format rights. Cabler AMC has announced that its six-hour limited series event The Prisoner, starring Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellan, will launch on Sunday, November 15th at 8 pm Et/Pt. The cabler will air three two-hour installments over three consecutive nights, with subsequent installments airing on Monday, November 16th and Tuesday, November 17th. John Wells has teamed with HBO to develop an American version of the acclaimed British dramedy "Shameless."
The "ER" chief is adapting "Shameless" with the series' creator, top U.K. TV writer Paul Abbott. Warner Bros. TV and studio-based John Wells Prods. are producing.
Based on Abbott's childhood, the original "Shameless" chronicles a dysfunctional working-class clan led by an alcoholic patriarch. The Company Pictures/Channel 4 project, which has aired in the U.S. on BBC America and the Sundance Channel, was brought to Jwp by the company's TV president Andrew Stearn.
It has been in the works at Jwp for four years, with Woody Harrelson rumored for the lead at one point.
Wells and Abbott are Emmy winners, the former for "The West Wing" and "ER" and the latter for the BBC/HBO film "The Girl in the Cafe." Abbott also has won several BAFTA Awards, including one for "Shameless.

On Thursday, the pay cable network picked up to series two comedies: "How to Make It in America," toplined by Bryan Greenberg and Victor Rasuk, and the Jason Schwartzman starrer "Bored to Death."
They follow the Wednesday series order for another male-centered comedy, "Hung," starring Thomas Jane.
Both "How to Make It" and "Bored" are said to have received eight-episode orders.
"How to Make It" marks the third series on HBO from Stephen Levinson's Leverage and Mark Wahlberg's Closest to the Hole, whose other two shows on the network -- the drama "In Treatment" and the comedy "Entourage" -- recently landed Golden Globe nominations for best series.
The show revolves around Ben (Greenberg) and his friend Cam (Rasuk), enterprising twentysomethings who hustle their way through New York determined to achieve the American dream.
