This is a wonderful film, both educational and moving and I don't think anyone could watch it without being affected by it. Last year I made a trip to the battlefields of Belgium which was also a poignant and moving experience, and some of the locations I visited were featured in this film which made it more personal for me.
Bernard Hill's empathetic narration adds an air of authority, and was an excellent choice by the director.
Sadly, since filming, most of the soldiers interviewed have now died so this film remains a testament to them and their courage and a legacy for us all as an inspiration for the future.
Watching it has prompted me to do some further research about these men and their comrades at arms, together with historical research into the conflict that was World War 1.
