  • Anna Pihl is a single mother who has moved to the big smoke of Copenhagen to take up a job as a rookie cop. Charlotte Munck is appealing as the energetic, headstrong Anna and the rest of the cast is uniformly good. The stories are a little contrived and Anna's duty statement is merely a symbolic piece of paper rather than her guiding light, but a series about the routine mundane operations of a junior police officer would hardly constitute riveting viewing. Anna does things her way and much of the series' entertainment is derived from this premise. Anna's personal life is complicated and a little over emphasised, but not jarring.

This is pretty lightweight stuff and not up to the standard of "The Killing" or "Unit One", and if you accept it on that basis you'll be entertained without being challenged. 7/10
  • During first two episodes I had an impression that this series is a kind of woman-only stuff with some criminal tendency - daily life of patrol(wo)men seemed not so interesting or versatile as real action and puzzles in the hands of investigators or special forces (e.g The Killing, The Eagle: A Crime Odyssey, etc). But then, different thrilling events started to appear and the sole focus to Ms. Pihl moved away to many other policemen as well; of course, it is best to watch all the series in sequence). The cast is strong and versatile, but Anna's character is less interesting than that of e.g. Kim's, Jan's, Eva's or Mikala's - or perhaps they are played by better actors? (Well, I cannot say that Charlotte Munck is a trivial actress, but...). Now, with Season 1 behind me, I will try to watch other seasons as soon as possible.
  • It's a great show! I just finished watching Season 2 and am excited about season 3.

I read a comment on IMDb where someone compared it to other cop shows and said it just wasn't much of a cop show - lightweight I think was the description. They are right for the wrong reasons.

It's only peripherally a cop show. It really is about Anna Pihl and her circle. To compare it to other cop procedurals is comparing apples and oranges. Yes there are some dramatic cases but there are whole shows where almost no "cases" happen. And when they do it's much more about the characters than the case whereas in the typical cop show it's about the case with some personal lives thrown in.

    Great stuff!
  • This is the first ever series coming out of Denmark to be shown on German TV, I believe- and bullseye right from the beginning! We all have seen lots of crime fiction on TV now, haven't we, with lots of corpses lying around, lots of gun firing, lots of blood gushing out of enormous wounds... This series shows us, the opposite is possible AND exciting. Don't you believe it? Watch it! Anna Pihl is a normal policewoman, no hero, no über-mensch, no tough bitch, she is a human being who happens to work in the police force. She lives together with her young son in a shared flat with a gay guy, has trouble with her father who gets older and is looking for Mr Right - or rather Mr Right, or two of them, to be precise, are looking for her. Everyday life. Everyday cases during work. And exactly that makes this series so great. Beautiful, to be more explicit. Of course you get thrilling scenes with screeching tyres and honking horns, swearing criminals and not-so-amused bosses. But it all looks real, as if work in the Copenhagen police force is exactly like this. Or in any other northern/ western European city. This series is a nice opportunity to get away from all that American fast food the channels like to serve so very often. Once in a while a little gem from Denmark is like expensive ice cream in your favourite flavour for dessert. Thank you, producers! 8 out of 10, for sure!

    Warning: Spoilers
If you're familiar with the danish police series "Rejseholdet" you will know that good police series doesn't necessarily have to be American or British.

Unfortunately,"Anna Pihl" was never even nearly as good as "Rejseholdet". The basic plot here evolves around a rookie female police officer starting off at her new job at a police station somewhere in Copenhagen in the pilot. She's cute-ish and pretty enough, but not too beautiful in a supermodel fashion because of course we want the audience to take her seriously as a career woman, not to focus on her chest size or legs. She's also idealistic and becomes engaged in the private lives of the people she comes into contact with in her profession. She even assumes the role of Nancy Drew when the working day is done, when she somewhat awkwardly tries to solve her clients'private issues when she can't do it in her role as a police officer. And of course, she's a single mother with a moderately hopeless ex-husband who have no more serious flaws than that he occasionally shows up with yet another new girlfriend Anna hasn't approved to being near her son.

Her father is a widower and depressed after the passing of his wife, but suddenly he shows up with a new love by his side-and to top it off, she's younger than Anna. Anna's love interest at the police station is a cute, sensitive guy with a motorbike, brown wavy hair and a smile soft as velvet. Her son is adorably sweet and clever.Sometimes she can't find a babysitter or her ex fails to pick their son up from kindergarten in time, but it hardly gets worse than that. She even cuddles in the couch with her landlord at nights, not as a couple since he's gay,but just as really good friends.Hunky dory. In short,Annas life is really quite perfect and there is the problem. This series lacks nerve and in the end,it just annoyed me to see Anna leap off to rescue people off-hours and how she disobeys orders to follow her heart and play hero. I sure don't think any real life police officer would get away with the behavior Anna displays on a daily basis. But of course, she's cute. I suppose that's a very forgiving trait.
  • Love this show and i still remember it when it was new, i was obsessed with it.

I dont like cops, i dont even like drama but when its done right its Anna Pihl.

I honestly miss the realism and the intensity of this show, Charlotte is amazing and i wish there would be more sequels/spin off or anything as cool as her as the cop we follow in this show, she's absolutely fantastic and the writing is pretty good.
  • Anna Pihl is one if the best cop tv series from Denmark. Produced by Cosmo for TV 2. Perfect cast, perfect script , and a cosmopolitan Copenhagen as playful background!
