You put your glasses on and you're in. A feast for the eyes at least for the first hour. The brain, however, remains asleep. How strange that such an ambitious enterprise could ignore its most important aspect, the story. A rehash of other things with dialogues from a high school play. Also, very self referential. The bitch! from Aliens truly omnipresent. I was surprised Sam Worthington didn't say "I think I've seen an iceberg" or maybe he did say it while I conceded myself a little nap - after the second hour - So here we are, facing a film future in 3D" I will, still, long for characters in movies, people I can, not just relate, but be inspired by, thought provoking and all the rest that goes with it. So, Cameron did it again and if money is at the center of the world, he remains "king of the world"

Trivia

James Cameron got the idea for "Avatar" after watching Disney's animated film Pocahontas (1995). He initially wanted Q'orianka Kilcher to play Neytiri, after seeing her play Pocahontas in The New World (2005).

Quotes

Jake Sully: When I was lying in the V.A. hospital with a big hole blown through the middle of my life, I started having these dreams of flying. I was free. But sooner or later, you always have to wake up.

Goofs

Through official canon, the atmosphere of Pandora is toxic to humans due to the presence of Hydrogen Sulfide, a very potent toxin in even small amounts. Jake Sully is exposed to the Pandoran atmosphere for several minutes, long enough to cause complete respiratory shutdown. At this point, the effects of this exposure would not be reversed by simply donning an exopack ; unless we must presume the exopack can detect any hydrogen sulphide in the user's exhaled breath, and add suitable gases to correct the effect.

Crazy Credits

There are no opening credits of any kind (outside of the 20th Century Fox title card). The title of the film doesn't appear on screen until the end of the movie.

Alternate Versions

The film's 3D and home video release presents the film open-matte, at an aspect ratio of 1.78:1, meaning there was more picture information visible in the top and bottom of the frame than in normal theaters and 3D venues that played the film in scope and there is no letterboxed scope version of the film available on home video as well since director James Cameron felt that the 16x9 full frame version was the best format to watch the movie at home.
