Running three hours (without the 2nd DVD of extras included), SHE BANGS! is a simple-minded but sexually effective vehicle for innocent-looking porn diva Sunny Lane. Porn quality has deteriorated so much in recent years that this trivial exercise actually won an award (for actor Manuel Ferrara's hammy performance as the bad guy porno director).
Sunny looks way out of place in her ill-fitting police uniform, but fans needn't worry -it is removed for her several sex scenes. She's a very young (unconvincing in the role) L.A. cop sent undercover by her boss Lt. Striker (Xavier Towers, doing an impression of "Lost" star Jeremy Davies in a non-sex role) to pose as a porn actress (now there's a stretch) and infiltrate a porn shoot.
Dialog goes to great lengths to point out that porn is legal and okay BUT it is the porn director Ricci Scarlotti (played by Ferrara) and his mobster brother's money laundering and drug activities that Sunny is to expose. Writer-director James Avalon tries to be facetious in his self-reflexive Adult Industry dialog, but it falls flat.
Sex scenes are extremely bloated, with an orgy at the end of the video feature lasting nearly an hour. What passes for a plot is merely delivered in a series of dialog exchanges between Sunny and Xavier at his desk, while the progression of sex scenes is merely stupid. Cynical ending of once-virginal Sunny handing in her badge & gun for "a little career change" is ho-hum. We know: Porn = Good, Repression = Bad, the mantra of pornographers.
Best scene is something of a novelty. Sunny has a pact with her older-guy boyfriend of no sex before marriage, so after some drinks she gives him an endless hand job in tight closeup until he ejaculates on her face. Given the closest to hardcore in this sequence is her lightly licking his cock, this is not sex under the Clintonian/Monica doctrine. But at least it was refreshingly different in the midst of a hardcore video.
Lane is quite appealing as the naive lass who (as trumpeted proudly on the back of the video box) ends up having her first troilism scene with two studs at once, but not a double penetration. Ferrara, hissable as the porn helmer who cheats his cast and crew out of their paychecks (now THAT's a sin in anybody's book), does his usual big-dick thing in the sack.
The rest of the cast go through the motions, but this is clearly Sunny's time in the spotlight.
