The skeleton in the mine still has a scrap of purple suit and flower on it. As this was before the creative team had conceived of the story for "Return of the Joker", it could be surmised that this an allusion to the final fate of the Joker. Alternatively, it could simply be one of the other initiates who did not survive, but the individual in this episode is wearing regular clothes as opposed to entering the initiation in Joker garb.
