  • David Jason is, of course, perfick, absolutely perfick. While Catherine Zeta Jones drew considerable attention, a jolly bit of understatement there, innit? But the scene stealer in both Part 1 and Part 2, but especially escalating with that close- up scene, is young Julie Davis, as budding beauty Primrose. She is utterly mesmerizing. Sadly, this is going to be all to be seen of her, she is written out of the story, off to Paris. How could they?

Charming foray into France. Likeably done. I repeat, I don't normally watch "Sunday fare" like this, this series is an exception though.

    Warning: Spoilers
Charlie wants to go on the local train journey but, Marriette would far rather bask on the beach and tend to her suntan.

This provokes their first tiff and Charlie storms off in a huff, however he ended up getting brahms and list instead.

Charlie is overcome by the green eyed monster when he spies Marriette enjoying herself and, acts in a manner most unbecoming of an ex employee of HMRC.

Pops assumed elevation in his social status brings him, into a local charade for a French war veteran.

Angela Snow passed by and invited Pop for a beachside nosh up and swim, Primrose out for a stroll with Marc Antoine spies them at it.

Pop and Ma want to have a champagne nightcap but it's interrupted by Primrose, and she places her dad in an embarrassing situation.

Pop has to realise that his little girl is growing up, rather faster than he had realised or imagined.

Pa and Ma want to arrange a surprise party for Marriette and Charlie Anniversary, in the Beau Rivage.

They are joined in this endeavour by the Patron Mlle Dupont, her head chef Alphonse, and Angela Snow and her sister Iris.

The celebration is thoroughly enjoyed by not only the Larkin family but by, Primrose boyfriend and parents Madame and Monsieur Gammelin.

The family gathering is further augmented by Mlle Dupont, Angela and Iris Snow, and Max who presented the happy couple with their portrait.
  • Pop Larkin is drinking cocktails at one point. All it needed were some umbrellas in the glass and you could imagine Del Boy.

It is hard to take Pop as a sex symbol. Apart from Ma, there are two other women who have an interest in him in this episode. What attracts them to this Rolls Royce driving landowner who sleeps on top of a mattress stuffed with cash?

Charley succumbs to jealousy and shows his manly side to the flirtatious Mariette. It is also their wedding anniversary and the Larkins plan a surprise party at the hotel.

I have no idea how old Primrose is supposed to be. The actress playing her was 13 at the time. However it does look odd and even creepy that the Larkins left their daughter behind in France with her new boyfriend's family. It seems the clincher was that the French family were wealthy themselves.

Of course it was a different period back then. A well known British rock group had a guitarist who was living with an underage girl and her family were apparently happy about it.

Anna Massey plays the hotel owner Madam Dupont. She dresses up in a sexy black outfit for the celebration dinner scene to flirt with Pop. To think her one time husband Jeremy Brett left her for another man.
