An Amusing Departure
The one-eyed Jack Elam (Dodie) usually plays a bad guy. So when he's accused here of being the masked man who held up Jonas's store, we figure sure thing. Then too, he doesn't deny it when Matt and Chester ride out to his homestead to arrest him. Trouble is he's got some never ending chores to do before leaving his pregnant wife. So what's Matt to do; after all, the wife is expecting and alone on the prairie.

Episode does a good job of simulating freezing weather, even though it's probably summertime in the San Fernando Valley. At first, I thought this was a holiday entry since there's no gunplay and the mood is kind of light-hearted as we watch Matt get more exasperated helping out with one chore after another. Chester, however, doesn't mind since he's being well fed by the accommodating wife. It's a different kind of episode for the series, but in my little book, a very satisfying one with a clever ending.
