The Chief arrives

The relationship between Chief Gillespie and Virgil Tibbs has not always been smooth sailing in the first few seasons. But when Howard Rollins gets into trouble in Philadelphia Carroll O'Connor is on his way north.

What Virgil's discovered is there's a death squad operating in Philadelphia's Police Department just like Dirty Harry Callahan had to deal with in Magnum Force. These people as they've demonstrated will do whatever it takes to protect their anonymity including murdering their own.

In the meantime Althea back in Sparta is getting closer and closer to delivery and she wants Rollins back, but Alan Autry might have to pinch hit for the Lamaze delivery, something he ain't looking forward to.

As for the Philly death squad, think Magnum Force.
