In the Upworld, Jay's grandmother comes to help with his care. In the Downworld, it's a struggle between all work and all play. The team needs two parties with separate keys to reconcile their differences in order to cross the checkpoint.

Everywhere Jay, Alpha and Flash go in Downworld, there is propaganda promoting the unseen leader, Brad. Outside it is posters. In the Friendship Mission (The Odyssey: Out of the Woods (1992)) it was a droning voice repeating slogans on a recorded loop. Here in the Checkpoint Eagle office, there are phrases such as 'Brad is great', 'Brad is wise', 'Brad wants us to be happy' set to Gregorian chant-like music heard continuously in the background.
