It's not real work, that's why you don't get paid

During spring break Bart obtains a fake ID and Lisa goes to work with Homer.

This is a very strong episode with great humour and character moments.

Although the story is ludicrous, it is very well thought out and gives the opportunity for lots of memorable character scenes. I love how nicely the A and B plots come together towards the end.

All characters are used very well. The boys road trip is an outrageously funny concept and has plenty of strong visual humour. Lisa's quality time with Homer has some nicely written bonding moments between the two characters. I also liked the smaller but equally effective plot-threads involving Marge's loneliness, Skinner's trip to Hong Kong, and Millhouse's day at the cracker-factory.

Bart does a fake license, rents a car, and takes his friends on a road trip. They tell their families they are going to a national grammar competition. Of course, they run into crazy stuff all the way through. At one point, Bart ends up as a courier in Hong Kong. My favorite little scene is Branson, where Nelson gets to see Andy Williams and swoons when Andy sings Moon River.

When Bart, Milhouse, Martin, and Nelson drive through Branson, they pass a marquee that reads "Lurleen Lumpkin and Pip Diddle Tonight." Lurleen Lumpkin was the woman Homer became a manger for when he discovered her in a bar in Colonel Homer (1992).
    • Goofs
When Homer and Lisa are playing in the radiation suits, as the chairs are spinning, Homer is laughing, but his mouth isn't moving.
    • Quotes

[Lisa tells Homer about Bart's problem after making him promise not to get mad]

Lisa: [rapidly] Bart rented a car with a phony driver's license and drove Milhouse, Martin, and Nelson to a wig outlet in Knoxville and the car got crushed and they're out of money and they can't get home and Bart's working as a courier and just came back from Hong Kong!

[Homer's face turns pink, but his voice is eerily calm]

Homer: Yes, that's a real pickle. Would you excuse me for a moment?

[He puts on a radiation suit hood and screams out indistinguishable profanities, fogging the glass of the faceplate. When he takes the hood off, he is eerily calm again]

Homer: All right, I have thought this through. I will send Bart the money to fly home. Then I will murder him.
