Arthur Hunnicutt portrayed Amos Carter, who represented one side of the plot's Carter - Blake feud. A little more than a year later, he played Jedediah Wakefield in The Andy Griffith Show (1960), who was feuding with the Carter clan. Both the Carter - Blake and Carter - Wakefield feuds are loosely based on the actual Hatfield - McCoy feud of Kentucky / West Virginia lore.
