  • Josh rides into an Overland Trail stagecoach stop looking for criminal. The older gentleman, "Bannister," (veteran TV actor John McIntire) in charge looks at the wanted poster and says he doesn't recognize the man but warns Randall that it's dangerous headed into the nearby Supertition Mountain area. The man asks Josh if he can keep the poster to show to others. When Randall heads to the mountains, the main checks the poster with an older photo he had of a man. He then heads into the mountains himself, knowing a shortcut.

Horse trouble slows the man down and Josh runs back into him, finally finding out the truth. It turns out the older man thinks the wanted guy might be his son, who had been reported dead three years ago.

The two track the man down to a cabin where the wanted man ("Collins" - Clu Gulager) is lying almost unconscious with a wound. It is, as it turns out, father- and-son but Bannister doesn't tell Randall that, hoping to help his son escape.

This was a very good episode with three good actors and a shocking ending.
  • Bannister (McIntire) and Randall, in few words, agree on an approach for handling Joe, who might be Bannister's son. One gets the idea that Josh is wary, tho he recognizes Bannister's basic decency, which is well acted by McIntire. Some good outdoor photography.
  • Fans of the Virginian will be thrilled to see "uncle Clay Grainger" and "Sheriff Emmet Ryker" as they play father and son in this episode!
