There is something about You Rang, M'Lord? where Croft & Perry really show their anger about the class system and the upper classes. It shows in this episode although they are not beyond showing Alf as a selfish, conniving commie.

Henry the boot boy has now been given the shares by Lady Lavender. Henry might not have had an education but he knows his numbers and he wants £200 for them from Alf who plans to sell them to Ralph in order that he drops a divorce action against Lord Meldrum.

Alf also needs to raise money so his ex-wife can pay the rent. It means a visit to the pawnbroker who still has not managed to get rid off the emerald that Alf stole from Teddy years earlier in the battlefield.

Alf's plan to obtain the emerald back for Teddy for a profit ends in disaster.
