  • Shirley Temple: America's Little Darling (1993)

    *** 1/2 (out of 4)

Cesar Romero, Alice Faye, Marcia Mae Jones, Dickie Moore, Delmar Watson, Darryl Hickman, Gloria Stuart and Richard R. Ross are among the people interviewed in this entertaining documentary about the career of Shirley Temple. We start off learning about her childhood, which as everyone knows was in the public eye at a very young age. We start off taking a look at how she got selected for a series of shorts before becoming one of the biggest stars of the 1930s. From there we learn about the end of her career in Hollywood and her starting to work for the government.

If you're a fan of Temple then you should enjoy this documentary as it offers up a pretty good narrative of her life and especially her time in Hollywood. The film features a great number of clips and the interviews are quite good as well and especially when you consider that many of these people are no longer with us. It's too bad Temple wasn't interviewed but I'm sure it was probably offered to her.
