For eight seasons and 96 episodes, from 2006 to 2013, the series Dexter ran on Showtime, telling the story of Dexter Morgan, a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department who is also a vigilante serial killer. Clyde Phillips was showrunner on Dexter for the first four seasons, and in 2021 he and Showtime brought us the revival series Dexter: New Blood… which, for a time, also seemed to be the end of it all. But that’s not the case. Showtime has tasked Phillips with continue to build up the Dexter franchise, with the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin premiering last month and a New Blood follow-up called Dexter: Resurrection heading for a June premiere. Filming on Dexter: Resurrection is now underway, and Michael C. Hall, who played Dexter Morgan in the original series and Dexter: New Blood, and also provides the in-character narration for Dexter: Original Sin, is back...

Despite having one of the worst series finales in TV history, Dexter is still widely regarded as one of the best shows of the last 20 years.
Michael C. Hall’s compelling performance as the titular serial killer drew acclaim, and the series broke new ground for Showtime at a time when the premium cable network needed hit series that were big around the globe.
The TV market was different in 2006 when the series premiered.

[This story contains spoilers from the sixth episode of Dexter: Original Sin, “The Joy of Killing.”]
Perhaps you’ve heard the good news: Dexter: Original Sin is a ton of fun. Even if buried in a body bag — considering where the Showtime prequel just left off on its midseason break.
Featuring voiceover narration from original series lead Michael C. Hall, but otherwise starring an all-new lineup of actors playing an old-school array of fan-favorites, the prequel series Original Sin has taken the Dexter franchise (which is yes, a full-on franchise now) back to its familiar roots. Think Muppet Babies, but make it Miami Metro Pd (and don’t even attempt to besmirch Kermit Jr.’s good name, he and the other babies were saints).
Same deal here in Original Sin, where all of the original Dexter favorites — Dexter himself (Patrick Gibson) and sister Deb (Molly Brown), Miami’s finest Angel Batista (James Martinez) and Maria Laguerta (Christina Milian...

We now know who will take over for the late Ray Stevenson on Ahsoka and it’s a good choice for the part!
Ahsoka was one of the most anticipated Star Wars shows when it debuted in 2023. It focused on the long-popular character from The Clone Wars animated series, former Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), as she handles life in the post-Empire galaxy.
The series was a live-action sequel to the beloved Rebels animated series, with Ahsoka reuniting with old pals Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). This involved a search for former would-be Jedi Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi).
The biggest part of the show was that it finally brought into live-action one of the greatest villains of the Star Wars universe, Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen). He was aided by the Nightsisters alongside Baylan Skoll and his apprentice Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno).

Dexter: Resurrection is making plans for its debut, which includes updates about filming, release window, and some big casting. Here’s what we know so far!
Per TV Line, Dexter: Resurrection will begin filming this month in January 2025, and is expected to premiere this summer on Paramount+ with Showtime. That’s definitely a fast turnaround. But you won't hear us complaining!
The prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, is currently releasing new episodes and the season comes to a close in February. So it'll only be a few months after that until we get more of the crime drama world, this time back to Michael C. Hall who originated the role. Both in the prequel and Resurrection, there's some familiar faces reprising their roles. So who exactly?
Seacia Pavao/Showtime Who’s in Dexter: Resurrection?

When Lucasfilm's Star Wars series Ahsoka premiered back in 2023, one of the standout characters was an enigmatic Sith lord named Baylan Skoll, played by seasoned actor Ray Stevenson. Stevenson has appeared in tons of shows and movies over the years, including Black Sails and Dexter; he excelled at playing villains who had such a deeply likable streak that you came to love them just as much as the heroes. Sadly, Baylan Skoll was one of Stevenson's final roles, as he died shortly before Ahsoka premiered.
That's left the fate of the character in question. Would Lucasfilm recast? Would they leave him wandering the wilds of Peridea, where he clearly had some mysterious goal he was chasing?
Now, it looks like the former won out. According to Hollywood scoop finder Jeff Sneider (via TV Line), Disney and Lucasfilm have recast Baylan Skoll with none other than Rory McCann, best known...

Star Trek needs to avoid the current trend in Hollywood by remaking anything. Too often we see stories get rebooted, retconned, or otherwise restarted just to continue a successful franchise. The most recent series, and one that I won't deny I'm very interested in, is the Dexter reboot. With a firm conclusion in Dexter: New Blood, a new series is in the works that rejects the ending of New Blood.
This new sequel series will go hand in hand with a new prequel series. I'm quite excited about it and hopefully, it does things the right way. It's something that Star Trek can't really do and needs to avoid doing. Thankfully, Star Trek hasn't done the reboot idea much, they're always one bad year creatively from going into the typical cesspool that is content reboots.
While it's fair to claim that the universe that started with Star Trek 2009 is...

The next Dexter spinoff is filling in its ranks with familiar faces.
David Zayas, James Remar and Jack Alcott will all be joining Michael C. Hall in Dexter: Resurrection, the next spinoff in the Paramount+ with Showtime franchise that will be releasing this summer.
Dexter: Resurrection will star Michael C. Hall, who originated the titular serial killer character of Dexter Morgan in the iconic Showtime series.
Zayas played Detective Angel Batista, friend and coworker to Dexter, and James Remar played his deceased father Harry Morgan in the original series that ran for eight seasons and ended in 2013. Alcott then played Dexter’s son, Harrison Morgan, in the 2021 Dexter revival series, Dexter: New Blood.
The currently airing prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, resurrected Hall as Dexter in the season opener. It was known that Hall would narrate Original Sin, but not until the series premiered in December did the Dexter audience understand how everything would connect.

In addition to his role in “Dexter,” Remar is known for his work in shows like “Sex and the City” and “City on a Hill.

Exclusive: David Zayas, Jack Alcott and James Remar will join Michael C. Hall in the Paramount+ with Showtime Original series Dexter: Resurrection in series regular roles. Production begins on the new series this month and will premiere in the summer.
Zayas and Remar will return to the roles they made famous in the mothership series, Detective Angel Batista and Harry Morgan, Dexter’s father, respectively. Alcott will play Dexter’s son, Harrison Morgan, who he originally portrayed in Dexter: New Blood, the original series’ sequel that launched in 2021.
How Remar will return on a series regular basis will be interesting to see considering his character has been dead for quite some time. However, with Dexter: New Blood bleeding (pun not intended) into Dexter: Original Sin via the latter’s premiere, that might be a way in.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a monster-hunting fantasy series that ran from 1997-2003; it's been over a for a long time now, but in an age of constant reboots and revivals, it's surprising that it's never come back in one form or another. "Into every generation a slayer is born," we're told in the intro. It's been over 20 years. Where's the next one?
Well, there actually was a reboot in development at one time, executive produced by original Buffy creator Joss Whedon with Monica Owusu-Breen serving as showrunner. But so far as we can tell, it's dead. Why? Well, it might have something to do with Whedon being excommunicated from Hollywood after allegations of his toxic workplace behavior surfaced, with multiple stars on his shows and movies — among them Justice League star Ray Fisher and Angel star Charisma Carpenter — coming forward. Sarah Michelle Gellar, the original star on Buffy the Vampire Slayer,...

‘Dexter’ is a crime drama series about Dexter Morgan, a forensic expert who secretly works as a vigilante serial killer. The show originally aired from 2006 to 2013, gaining a large fanbase with its mix of suspense and moral dilemmas.
A spinoff, ‘Dexter: New Blood,’ aired in 2021, picking up Dexter’s story years after the original series ended. We know that two more spinoffs are coming: ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ which started releasing episodes on December 15, and ‘Dexter: Resurrection.’
A sequel series ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ was announced back in July, at San Diego Comic-Con, with Michael C. Hall returning as Dexter, and so far not much is known about the show but some new information has surfaced.
Recently, Clyde Phillips confirmed that the new show will premiere in June 2025, with filming starting in the first week of January. Now Daniel Richtman, a notable industry insider brings us some rumors regarding the show’s cast.

[This story contains spoilers from the first five episodes of Dexter: Original Sin.]
Three years after concluding with Dexter: New Blood, Showtime’s favorite serial killer is back in action with Dexter: Original Sin. The prequel series stars Patrick Gibson as a younger version of Dexter, with Michael C. Hall providing narration (and a surprising on-camera return as well). Set during Dexter’s earliest days working alongside Miami Metro, Original Sin comes packed with returning characters, tropes and Easter eggs aplenty for fans of the original show.
“We had this canon of lore from nine seasons of the show from which to draw,” Dexter franchise veteran and Original Sin showrunner Clyde Phillips told The Hollywood Reporter about the prequel series, which is now five episodes into its 10-episode season. “If people like Easter eggs, this show is going to be an Easter egg hunt. We would write the shows and start shooting them. Someone would come in and say,...

I love when a new episode of a show picks up right where the previous episode left off, and that’s what we have here, my friends. Remember, last week in Dexter: Original Sin episode 4, Mad Dog (Joe Pantoliano) awoke on Dexter’s (Patrick Gibson) kill table and managed to break free and escape before getting blindsided by a truck while running down the street, and subsequently killed, leaving Dex in his first real “Oh S**T” moment.
In this week’s episode 5 recap, we’ll follow everything that happens in the wake of Dexter’s kill gone wrong, including a major f**k-up on Harry’s (Christian Slater) part in court that ultimately sets a killer free, and equips Dexter with the surge of power he needs to convince Harry to set him free. Spoilers below.

The contract killer named Mad Dog’s been flattened by a car, so what’s a serial killer in training to do? Some clean-up, and Fast. In Friday’s Dexter: Original Sin, both Dex and Harry make huge mistakes that nearly cost them. But were any lessons learned? Let’s break it all down.
Dexter calculates that he has about 15 minutes to clean things up before Miami Metro arrives on the scene. He uses a blacklight to check for blood and rolls up his plastic sheets, but the police are faster than usual to respond. Fortunately, Dex makes his...

Dexter: Original Sin is certainly drawing mixed feelings from fans of the franchise. Even though the series is getting a lot of acclaim and recognition for its quality, many believe it simply should not exist. Considering the Dexter franchise has already told quite a comprehensive story, one cannot help but wonder if there is a need for more additions.

With Dexter: Resurrection having already been confirmed to continue the story of Dexter’s son, many have questioned the need for a prequel series about a character that fans already know so much about. With some believing it to be an attempt at milking the character, it would seem that this wasn’t the original plan.

This post contains spoilers for "Dexter" and "Dexter: New Blood."
"Tonight's the night. And it's gonna happen again and again. Has to happen." These opening lines grace the pilot episode of "Dexter," in which blood splatter specialist Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) drives around while being on the prowl. What sets this show apart from most police procedurals is its upfront positioning of Dexter as a morally complex figure, a killer who (mostly) murders other killers who have managed to escape the justice system. However, this moral positioning starts to unravel once his meticulous plans start spiraling out of control and jeopardizing the faux-identity he has painstakingly crafted over the years. This tension between our intimate knowledge of Dexter's skewed vigilantism and the escalating suspicion about his crimes grants "Dexter" the edge required to become the tense, thrilling character-focused procedural that it is.

Showtime wasted no time greenlighting Dexter: Original Sin after New Blood’s record-breaking finale. While fans were shocked by Dexter’s end, the network acted quickly, opting for a prequel instead of a direct sequel. How’s that for timing?
Showrunner Clyde Phillips was all set to dive into a sequel. “We wrote all 10 episodes of the sequel,” Phillips revealed, adding that things got a little wild when MTV Entertainment’s Chris McCarthy came on board. McCarthy, fresh off the success of Yellowstone’s prequels, wasn’t into sequels. He wanted Original Sin. He told Phillips, “I’m not in the sequel business; I’m in the prequel business,” just like that, a Dexter prequel was born. Phillips quickly pitched it, and McCarthy’s four-word response sealed the deal: “Phenomenal. I love it.”
And bam, production kicked off.

In Friday’s episode of Dexter: Original Sin, our titular killer with a code experiences some normal, non-murdery feelings when a child — Judge Powell’s abducted son Jimmy — is sadly found dead, his body strung from a bridge.
Dexter has a panicked, sickened feeling after seeing his first dead kid, and the whole experience shakes him to his core. Harry assures his son that it’s a good thing that Dexter feels so spun by the sight of a dead child. So while Miami Metro deals with the Powell case, Harry sends Dexter to another scene dealing with a dead prostitute.

Fans of Showtime’s “Dexter” series are noticing that Sergeant James Doakes isn’t in “Dexter: Original Sin,” the new spinoff. The show takes place in 1991 before Doakes started working at the Miami Metro Police Department, so he is not there.
The series is about Dexter Morgan when he was younger and shows how he started as a forensic expert and a vigilante killer. While many characters from the original series are back, including Angel Batista, Vince Masuka, and Maria Laguerta, Sergeant Doakes is noticeably absent. He is known for his intense attitude and suspicion of Dexter.
Based on the show’s timing, Doakes could still be in the US Army Rangers or just starting as a police officer somewhere else during “Original Sin.” The third episode of the series introduces Maria Laguerta, who transfers to Miami Metro and shows that important new employees are still coming to the department.

The Dexter universe is growing larger by the second. Dexter: Original Sin is currently telling the origins of the young serial killer, but another prequel series could soon follow. Deadline reports that a prequel series revolving around the Trinity Killer (played by John Lithgow in the original series) is still “in development” at Paramount+.
The Trinity Killer prequel series was actually reported to be in condition in early 2023, but it’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything about it. Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips and Dexter writer/producer Scott Reynolds will serve as co-creators and executive producers of the Trinity Killer prequel series. Phillips even revealed that John Lithgow has agreed to come back and provide the inner voice of his younger self, much in the same way Michael C. Hall is doing for Dexter: Original Sin.

Exclusive: The Dexter Trinity Killer prequel series, following the makings of the notorious serial killer played by John Lithgow in the mothership series, remains “in development” at Paramount+ with Showtime and has come a long way since it was originally announced in early 2023 as being in the exploration stages, sources close to production tell Deadline.
Original Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips and fellow Dexter veteran Scott Reynolds serve as co-creators and executive producers of the Trinity Killer spinoff prequel, we hear. The crime drama series Dexter originally aired on Showtime for eight seasons, from 2006 to 2013, then it was revived with a season called Dexter: New Blood in 2021, and now a prequel series called Dexter: Original Sin is airing on Showtime and the Paramount+ streaming service. Since the show takes place 15 years before the original show, it required a new cast to bring younger versions of the Dexter characters to life – and during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actors James Martinez and Alex Shimizu revealed what it was like to take on the roles of Detective Angel Batista and forensics expert Vince Masuka.
Martinez follows in the footsteps of David Zayas to play Batista, and he told The Hollywood Reporter that he and Zayas knew each other from the New York theater community before he got the job on Dexter: Original Sin. “I’ve always been a fan of his stage work.

In a spinoff-laden 2024 that even gave Scar from “The Lion King” a sneaky origin story, it’s no wonder that Showtime’s foremost serial killer is back for “Dexter: Original Sin.”
The new prequel series is streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime and — spoiler alert — begins by foreshadowing Michael C. Hall’s return as the clever antihero for the upcoming “Dexter: Resurrection” sequel series. That reveal puts even more pressure on “Original Sin” star Patrick Gibson to nail his rendition of the blood-thirsty title character at 20.
“When I saw this script, my initial thought was, ‘Dang, that’s going to be tough for the guy who has to play Dexter because that’s such a performance to follow,’” actress Molly Brown told IndieWire. “But Michael just wasn’t finished with the character, and the audience isn’t finished either. The only way you can do that is if both parties feel that way,...

[This story contains spoilers from Dexter and Dexter: New Blood.]
When Dexter: Original Sin viewers see the fedora and hear the giggle, they know who’s coming.
For eight seasons on the original Dexter, the audience of Showtime’s hit serial killer series became familiar with the main players on the Miami Metro Homicide team where Michael C. Hall’s starring Dexter Morgan worked. Two of those characters were Detective Angel Batista, played by David Zayas, and forensics expert Vince Masuka, played by C.S. Lee.
Prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, which arrived on Paramount+ last week, heads back to the 1990s to show how Dexter (played here by Patrick Gibson) became the blood splatter analyst by day and serial killer by night who viewers were introduced to in the 2006 series. James Martinez and Alex Shimizu take on the Batista and Masuka roles in the prequel, bringing back their signature fedora and giggle, respectively.
