Okay, now That was more like it. But before we discuss what was far and away the best episode yet of this season of True Blood, can we all agree that Alcide’s death was like, kinda mean? I get that he died nobly… in service to Sookie’s guaranteed reunion with Bill. But when Terry had himself offed, time literally stopped and oodles of energy was spent honoring him. Here, they didn’t even bother taking the time to chuck our poor werewolf in the pet cemetery before moving right along.
And wait, Brief nudity? Alcide, we miss you already!!
Let’s dig in.
Jackson (Robert Patrick) – Alcide’s puppy papa – gets a call while having a trailer-park bootie-call with Sheryl Crow. Sookie (Anna Paquin) calls and tells him that Alcide is dead. He tells her, “He loved the fuck outta you.” I can’t tell if that’s a good thing or not.

Hate-watching: A bizarre phenomenon amongst TV viewers where they watch a show on a weekly basis because it drives them into a frenzy of anger and disgust. It seems as if that was the way many of us were watching season one of The Newsroom, Aaron Sorkin’s ode to why liberals are right and everyone else can suck it. Oh, and the idea that women tripping over their feet constantly is adorable.
But a funny thing happened between the end of season one last summer and the premiere of season two last night… I bought seasons one and two of The West Wing on DVD ($10 each at Wal-Mart! How’s that for a Deal of the Day?), and the truth is that a lot of the stuff people found tiresome in Sorkin’s writing with The Newsroom has been there all along. Take his writing of women for example,...

Mondays tend to suck. Let’s see what I can do to make yours a bit better with a flurry of scoops, teases and sound bites from some of TV’s hottest shows and stars.
A Kiss Is Just a Kiss…? | Apparently there is no such thing as a run-of-the-mill episode of CBS’ The Good Wife, because this Tuesday’s hour raised my eyebrow at least twice. For the case of the week, you have Ken Leung delivering a nicely understated performance that’s a far cry from Lost’s Miles, plus there’s a nifty callback to a previous episode.

While you might not know the name Paris Barclay, you almost certainly know his work as a director, especially if the show has been on for more than one season. Barclay has directed episodes for In Treatment, Glee, Weeds, Will & Grace, and The West Wing just to name a small fraction of his output. And Glee fans should note that Barclay directed “Wheels,” one of last season’s most popular episodes.
For his efforts, Barclay has won both Emmys and Directors Guild Awards and been nominated a slew of times. He’s also very much an advocate for Glbt visibility, especially for people of color who are still sorely under-represented at almost every level of Hollywood. Indeed, it was after attending a Television Critics Association panel on diversity in television that AfterElton.com had the chance to catch up with Barclay on his wide ranging career, his thoughts on where...

Rhianwen Benner: It's a "girl power" flick that's long on entertainment but comes up empty in the empowerment department.
The Lowdown
Ellen Page stars as an underage Texas teenager feeling pressure from her mother (Marcia Gay Harden) to become a beauty queen when a chance trip to a roller derby changes her destiny.
Why You'll Love It
The cast is great. Besides Page, there's Kristen Wiig, Eve, Zoe Bell, Andrew Wilson, and Drew Barrymore, who pulls double duty as director. Everyone gets laughs, particularly Wiig during a monologue describing the origin of her case of crabs (you'll die laughing, until you realize your kids are right there too).
While roller derby isn't all that suspenseful of a sport -- the point of the game, after all, is to skate in circles -- it's definitely fun to watch. Things get rough and tumble, and there are unexpectedly fun moments when the team gets experimental with strategy.

The Emmys are once again almost upon us and there is nothing I find more satisfying than looking down a list of nominees. I don’t know, I just really like it. Anyway, I know many people might not care too much about the Emmys, I’m more of a Golden Globe man myself, but you do have to give it to them for giving 30 Rock the Emmy for best comedy two year in a row, if you don’t know that show Rocks!! So here’s the list and a few comments I thought I’d add to the nominees.
Best Comedy Series
Entourage
Family Guy-Really hope this show doesn’t win, not a big fan as so many others are.
Flight of the Conchords-i’d really like to see this show win, but it definitely won’t.
How I Met Your Mother-I’d also like to see this one win too.
