Pardon my language but… Fuck me! I’ve been a fan of James Cullen Bressack’s work for some time now, ever since that fateful day he sent me an email asking me if I’d like to review his first full-length feature My Pure Joy. Bressack followed that hard-hitting flick with a segment in the first Theatre of the Deranged anthology and the notorious (and totally amazing), Hate Crime. Now in all honesty I though he couldn’t top Hate Crime. After all that film was, at least for me, a perfect mix of story and style – Bressack’s directorial sensibilities fit perfectly with the content and you could tell that everyone involved wanted to make the best movie they could, even given the touchy subject matter.

Brian Ronalds and Dean Ronalds, more commonly known as the Ronalds Brothers, who produced the Brian Skiba directed Dirty Little Trick (a film that stars Michael Madsen and Dean Cain, whose trailer we had the world exclusive of) which is finally hitting Us stores on November 15th, have announced their next production, Sprawl.
Directed by Dean Ronalds, produced by Tom Malloy and Brian Ronalds and written by Domenic Migliore, Sprawl is set to shoot in Hollywood, with casting underway now and a mid-October production start date in place. The brothers are very excited about Sprawl and “feel that this could be a break out film for them”.
Different from any of their previous movies: Netherbeast Incorporated, The Graves and Dirty Little Trick, Sprawl is a glimpse into the life of an outcast teenage girl that handles her deep seeded issues by turning the blade on herself and her body.

True Blood and Outnumbered come to the end of their current runs in the UK, Ashes To Ashes begins its final two-parter, and there's a whole lot of movies to pick from too...
If there's any shrubbery in the vicinity, it won't be us who's beating about it. Telly this week is not the exciting landscape it's been in weeks past, with a typical lull between bookended bank holidays.
Sure there are plenty of good shows to watch, but as far as new shows taking off this week, the launch pad is barren.
Two shows finish their runs over the next seven days with the season finale of the always exciting True Blood tonight at 10:00pm on FX. The episode is Beyond Here Lies Nothin' and closes the second season of the vampire and mind-reading waitress chronicles at a major town gathering orchestrated by Maryann, where a special and powerful guest is expected.

The Ronald Brothers, producers of Brian Pulido’s The Graves, and directors of Netherbeast Incorporated, have moved into the world of iPhone apps with Here & Now.
Want to have your cake and eat it too? Cupcake that is! Make a wish with Judd Nelson as Zander, and the Here & Now magic cupcake. With a quick blow or touch, extinguish the candle and make all your dreams come true. Then join Judd starring as the wish wielding Zander in the Here & Now appisodes.
Here & Now is a sweet but wacky tale of what happens when an innocent birthday wish comes true starring Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club) with special guests Traci Lords (Zach and Miri Make a Porno), and Alexis Arquette (The Wedding Singer) and introducing Kevin Berman as David, a barbershop owner stuck in a rut and looking for a second lease on life.

You may know the Ronalds Brothers for their Undead Office Comedy Netherbeast Incorporated , which was released with a limited theatrical and is now available on DVD. NetherBeast Incorporated stars Darrell Hammond (SNL), Dave Foley (Kids in the Hall), Jason Mewes (Clerks 1 & 2), Judd Nelson, and Robert Wagner. You might also know them as co-writers on the second season of Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns. In early October, the Ronalds brothers will be putting out a new web series starring Judd Nelson, and this one looks like a winner. In a sense similar to Lisa Kudrow's Web Therapy, Here & Now looks to be the kind of show that is really going to push the boundaries of the web series as a vehicle. As things keep progressing, and we move nearer to the accepted legitimacy of the medium, it is efforts like this that provide the rungs for the ladder.

Fango got the scoop from director Sean Cain that Jason Mewes has joined the cast of his latest feature, Breath Of Hate (which we last reported on here). “His character is a gamer nerd who falls for a escort,” Cain says; that escort is the film’s heroine, who is terrorized by three homicidal asylum escapees on her last job.
“It’s through his love that he brings her back from being a walking suicide,” Cain continues. “Audiences know Jason as the foul-mouthed Jay in the Kevin Smith movies, but he’s got a sweet side that’s the perfect counterpoint to the darkness in our story.” Mewes’ Jay also made an appearance in Scream 3, and the actor’s genre credits additionally include R.S.V.P., Feast, The Tripper, Netherbeast Incorporated, Bitten and the upcoming Silent But Deadly. Breath Of Hate, scripted by Wes Laurie and produced by him and Cain,...

A little background on The Big Picture, in case you're fairly new: This site - or more correctly, its predecessor - began in 2002 as a companion to a movie show I used to do on radio. Remember radio, by the way? Whatever happened to it. Anyway, the show was on in Phoenix, so I was and remain pretty plugged in to the local film community here because of that.
Among the filmmakers I've met who have cut their teeth in the Valley of the Sun are Brian and Dean Ronalds. They started out making short films, graduated to the feature Netherbeast Incorporated (now available on DVD), and recently wrapped up a horror movie they produced called The Graves, directed by Brian Pulido and starring Tony Todd and Bill Moseley.

The hits just keep on comin’ from the Graves camp; today another new character/teaser poster arrived, depicting Lamb of God screamer D. Berm-Tech Industries and its staff of cubicle-dwelling vampires are once again open for business. Just out on DVD this week is Netherbeast Incorporated, the quirky horror/comedy feature debut of the Phoenix-based filmmaking team of Dean and Brian Ronalds.
Based on the brothers’ short film The Netherbeast Of Berm-tech Industries, Inc., produced in 2004 and a favorite on the festival circuit, the full-length adaptation (scripted, like the short, by Bruce Dellis) stars Darrell Hammond as the company boss who kills an employee with a stake through the heart, forgetting he’s a vampire himself. Steve Burns, Jason (The Tripper) Mewes and Dave (Postal) Foley play three of the undead employees, while Amy Davidson and Judd Nelson are two human outsiders who discover the company secret; Robert Wagner also appears (in a flashback) as President James Garfield. We just got in the first pic!
“Chicks dig me,” sneers Beef (Moby), the shaven-headed self-proclaimed “biggest rock star in Buffalo” as he pushes aside Hugo (Chris Ratz), the spindly roadie for down-and-out rock band The Winners. Marching to his doom down a filthy corridor leading to the dimly lit motel room where the cold white embrace of Jennifer (Jessica Paré), The Winners’ incandescently beautiful bass player, awaits him, Beef will find that while chicks may dig him, this one will love him to death.
And even beyond death. As the phrase goes, rock and roll is indeed a vicious game.
This week, filming will wrap on the Toronto set of Capri Films’ Suck, with Fango having enjoyed unprecedented access, totaling 17 days of the 20-day shoot. Writer/director Rob (Phil The Alien) Stefaniuk, who also stars as the band’s frontman Joey, hopes to bypass the curse of “vampire rock...

I haven't even finished all of my Fantastic Fest work yet (expect a semi-large wrap-up real soon), but my inbox has been flooded with new reports from three other genre festivals. And since I love this stuff, I figured I'd throw 'em all into one handy section. Let's begin reverse-chronologically, shall we?
Beginning on October 17 is the small-but-powerful Toronto After Dark festival (October 17 - 24), which aims to fill a post-tiff void while Midnight Madness programmer Colin Geddes and his staff take a well-earned vacation. I shan't be able to attend this fine-looking event, but the final slate just came in -- and I can definitely vouch for titles like the brilliant Let the Right On, the amusingly bizarre South of Heaven, the splatterific Tokyo Gore Police, and the stylishly nasty Donkey Punch. Among those "ooh, I wanna see that" titles we have Kevin Tenney's Brain Dead, the comedy horror Netherbeast Incorporated,...

So, Fantastic Fest is now behind us which means the next big event for genre fans is the Toronto After Dark fest, unspooling in late October, and the final block of titles has just been announced. Tad will be the home of the world premiere of I Sell the Dead, the trailer for which you can check out below. Glenn McQuaid’s period zomcom looks like the kind of film that’ll keep people talking long after the credits roll...
They’ve also add the Thomas Jane/John Malkovich Mutant Chronicles (review), the much-talked about British import Donkey Punch, the vampire comedy Netherbeast Incorporated, the awesome Thai horror anthology 4Bia (review) and the crime film South of Heaven.

I've started looking forward to Friday nights, when I sip some vino and cull the stories that will comprise the Weekly Wrap-Up. Sometimes it is a struggle to find the thread that ties them together, but for the week of August 30-September 5, 2008, it was no problem determining the theme: Indies! Incredible, edible indies. We love them, we hate them, and we can't live without them!
One indie that I am definitely intrigued by is Netherbeast Incorporated, which is getting a limited theatrical run. The premise sounds like sheer genius, and in her Netherbeast review, Melissa claims the film "creates a whole new way to look at the legend of vampire." High praise indeed. The eclectic cast includes Judd Nelson, Dave Foley, Jason Mewes, and Robert Wagner. Does it get any stranger?

After a little bit of digging, the sick geniuses behind Netherbeast Incorporated (review), The Ronalds Brothers, have just handed me another scoop of dirt and this time it’s straight from The Graves!
Written and directed by comic book author Brian Pulido (Lady Death/Evil Ernie) The Graves was shot in May 2008 in Wickenberg, Arizona at the Vulture City abandoned gold mines. It stars Bill Moseley(Devils Rejects/House of a 1000 Corpses), Tony Todd (Candyman/The Rock), Amanda Wyss (Nightmare on Elm Street/Better Off Dead), Lamb of God’s front man D Randall Blythe, and newcomers Clare Grant (“Valerie Under the Stairs”) and Jillian Murray (Fun Park/Legacy).
“After scaring readers on the page for years, I’m looking forward to bringing the frights directly into theaters and homes,” Pulido said. The Graves is about two inseparable sisters whose visit to a remote mine town takes a turn into...
