Robert Englund, Yancy Butler, and Corin Nemec star in Lake Placid vs. Anaconda, a crossover film featuring the crocodiles and anacondas from two popular film franchises. With Lake Placid vs. Anaconda now available on DVD, we caught up with the film's screenwriter, Berkeley Anderson.
In Lake Placid vs. Anaconda, you pit two creatures from popular franchises against one another. How did the idea for this story formulate and what were the challenges and rewards of combining these two franchises?
Berkeley Anderson: Well, when the last movie in the Lake Placid series was called The Final Chapter, you know you have your work cut out for you. Let’s be honest, both the Lake Placid and Anaconda franchises were getting a little long in the tooth and yet there was obviously an appetite to have them continue. I would say that finding an entry point for this movie—the place...

The Nazi’s are like an infinite gift to horror filmmakers. The depths of their depravity was limitless, allowing for all sorts of possibilities. They could create super-soldiers (S.S. Doomtrooper) or be zombies (Dead Snow) or some other supernatural entity (The Keep). And that is hardly a comprehensive list.
In The Devil’s Rock, the Nazis are dabbling in the occult. It’s June 1944, the eve of D-Day. Ben (Craig Hall) and Joe (Karlos Drinkwater) are on a two-man mission in the Channel Islands. Their task is to destroy German weapons right before the invasion of Normandy. Upon hearing screams coming from an ominous building near their target, Ben decides to snoop around. Not a good idea.

It’s hard not to watch this trailer for Vampyre Nation and not get the sense that the makers of the movie watched Daybreakers and wished the film had more to do with characters hunting down those mutant vampire man-bats. And I would agree with them 100% on that point.
Vampyre Nation may not be an Asylum mockbuster of Daybreakers but it sure does sound like it could be.
Bucharest, Romania. The not-too-distant future, but an entirely different city. The human population is dwindling. The vampire population, meanwhile, is exploding. Having emerged from the shadows a decade earlier, vampires now walk openly amongst the human population, as a precarious peace exists between the two. A peace made possible by the introduction of a synthetic blood substitute, dispensed by the Romanian government, making traditional vampire feeding, and preying on humans, no longer necessary. But even so, it's not a peace that everyone is entirely comfortable with.

He's given us Dinocrocs, Dinosharks, Supergators, and the now legendary Sharktopus. Next up for the great Roger Corman is Piranhaconda. Up until now the look of this Syfy monster mishmash has only been the subject of speculation, but read on and you'll get a head's up at the piranha/anaconda hybrid.
Entertainment Weekly scored the exclusive look at the head prop being used in certain scenes when Piranhaconda rears his ugly head. Is it just me, or is there more than a little similarity between the Piranhaconda head and the head of the gill-man from The Monster Squad?
Produced by Roger Corman, directed by Jim Wynorski, starring Michael Madsen and Rachel Hunter, Piranhaconda sees the mutant repto-fish wrapped up in a tale that according to EW involves "a low-budget horror movie crew, inept kidnappers, and a reptile expert battling a monstrous anaconda/piranha hybrid in the Amazon jungle." A low-budget horror movie crew?...

Daybreakers and Stake Land have given audiences different views of what a futuristic world overrun by vampires would be like. Now Syfy is gearing up to give us their take on a Vampyre Nation, one that features vampires outnumbering humans, synthetic blood, and a virus that causes vamps to devolve into man-bats. Wait - doesn't that sound just like Daybreakers?
Amid the slate of disaster flicks bound for Syfy, UFO International Pictures recently unveiled for 2011 Vampyre Nation. Here's the mammoth plot synopsis UFO has posted regarding the film's plot:

Producer Jeff Miller sent over some info and production stills from his new horror flick Bunyan, which puts a spin on Paul Bunyan, the mythological mountain of a man lumberjack of folk tales, by transforming him into a monstrous maniac ready to put the axe to a camp full of troubled teens.
Gary Jones (Boogeyman 3) directs b-movie veteran Joe Estevez, Tom Downey (Transmorphers), and Tim Lovelace (Mosquito) in this horror flick for Kinetic Filmmworks from a script by Miller and Jones. A few extra days of filming are scheduled in the fall with the possibility of a recognizable genre name or two being added to the cast.
Robert Kurtzman's Creature Corps is handling the bulk of the effects work. Hopefully that means Mr. Bunyan won't just be some hulking Syfy movie digital effect that looks like S.S. Doomtrooper dressed in flannel.

A brief little story that I read recently could open the door for a myriad of video game and broadcasting possibilities. The sci-fi channel currently known as Syfy and prolific video game publisher Thq have struck a deal "to develop original properties for use across all media platforms." But where does S.S. Doomtrooper fit into all this, I ask?
According to The Wrap, in addition to creating new joint properties, the two will also work to develop certain Thq video game properties and adapt them for Syfy. Thq's Wii game de Blob, about a colorful blob that saves a city from corporate tyranny, has already begun to be developed for television under the Syfy Kids banner. I had no idea Syfy had a Syfy Kids banner. Did you?
Syfy also broadcasts World Wrestling Entertainment programming, whose video games are published by Thq, so we can all begin crossing our fingers...

Quick, when I say the words “SyFy Original Movie,” what images immediately rush to mind? Hokey CGI effects? Laughable character motivation? Bafflingly obtuse plots and stories? Now imagine this heralded brand, responsible for such masterpieces as “Ice Spiders” and “S.S. Doomtrooper,” attempting to interpret one of the most beloved pieces of western fiction ever.
This is the mindset one must enter before attempting to understand Alice, the SyFy mini-series. In a nutshell, the story is essentially a third installment of the Alice in Wonderland saga, if Lewis Carroll were alive and writing today, preferred teleplays to novels, had abandoned Victorian-era satire for dystopic art direction, and was intent on destroying the franchise so badly that no one would ever again be able to continue it. For those who remembered last year’s Tin Man, this is the exact same thing, simply swapping out The Wizard of Oz for Alice’s...

We live in strange times. Sylvester Stallone wants to do another Rambo sequel. No surprise there. Now he's talking about making it PG-13, which is nearly impossible to fathom, especially after the all-out bloodbath that was last year's Rambo. But even more perplexing is that it looks to be heading into the direction of sci-fi action horror with John Rambo tracking a genetically engineered monster run amok. We're a long way removed from First Blood now.
Coming Soon scored the following synopsis for what is currently being titled Rambo V: The Savage Hunt, a Rambo sequel that would see the Vietnam vet recruited back into service to use his tracking skills to assist a Black Ops squad in pursuit of a marauding man-animal created by military scientists conducting genetic experiments involving human savagery.
"John Rambo could track anyone - or anything - on earth. Now the military desperately needs...
