Eleanor Coppola, wife of Francis Ford Coppola, has died at the age of 87. She is best known for Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse, the 1991 documentary which chronicled the making of Apocalypse Now, the iconic 1979 movie which was plagued with a myriad of issues.
Eleanor first met her future husband on the set of Dementia 13, which was Francis’ feature directorial debut. Eleanor was the assistant art director on the movie and the pair soon began dating before getting married in 1963. Each of their children, Gian-Carlo, Roman, and Sofia, would get into the movie business after spending their childhood years growing up on film sets, although Gian-Carlo sadly died in 1986 at the age of 22.
“I don’t know what the family has given except I hope they’ve set an example of a family encouraging each other in their creative process whatever it may be,” Eleanor told The Associated Press...

Born in Los Angeles in 1936, Coppola studied design at UCLA and began her career working in the art department on film sets. The singer with her signature powerhouse voice has made a name for herself on the charts and on the awards scene, so we’ve ranked our favorite songs she has recorded … so far. Grande started out on Broadway when she was just 15 in the musical “13,” which featured an entirely teenage cast. Then she broke out even bigger a couple of years later when she played Cat Valentine in the Nickelodeon comedy “Victorious” in the early 2010s and then its spinoff “Sam and Cat.”

Ariana Grande’s career has been an interesting one as she has constantly shifted mediums and avenues to showcase her talent. She might be a multi-Grammy award-winning pop artist now but she had humble beginnings like many other artists. While music was her passion, she debuted on Broadway with the musical 13 in 2008.

Mark Ruffalo has taken a turn. “I’m so sick of being so well-behaved,” he says. “I just want to take the ship as close to the reef as I can without actually crashing it. And maybe I’ll crash it too. I don’t give a sh*t anymore.”
It’s fair to say that prior to his Poor Things role, Ruffalo’s credits are littered with likeable men: Jen Garner’s lovely best friend Matt in 13 Going on 30; the right-side-of-justice Inspector Toschi in Zodiac; real-life environmental activist Rob Bilott in Dark Waters; the abuse-exposing journalist Mike Rezendes in Spotlight… Even his Marvel franchise Hulk is deeply loveable. That’s not to say Ruffalo’s work has been remotely one-note—the man has been Oscar-nominated four times—but there’s a quality of sincerity that lends itself to the full-hearted men he has played.

To accurately simulate the zero-gravity environment in space — at least in the days before today’s advanced CGI — the stars of Apollo 13 spent plenty of time filming aboard an airplane that repeatedly flew zero-g maneuvers. While it made for an impressive-looking movie, Kevin Bacon told us that, for the actors and crew aboard the plane, all that time in the air had some unexpected side effects. Oscar winner Will Smith is attached to star in Sugar Bandits, which is one of the buzziest packages at the EFM market this week in Berlin.
The market’s biggest budget project — we hear it’s in the $80M range — is understood to follow a former Special Forces solider who joins an elite, vigilante squad aiming to wipe out the drug trade in Boston, but soon learns things are not what they seem.
Years ago the project was being set up at Universal with Joe Carnahan directing but is now launching in the independent market-place.
The action-crime pic is based on the screenplay and novel Devils In Exile by Chuck Hogan (The Town). Smith and Jon Mone will produce through Westbrook Studios with Ryan Shimazaki overseeing; Stuart Ford will produce for AGC Studios, which is fully financing the film; and Richard Abate (13 Hours) will produce for 3 Arts Entertainment.

What makes the results of Monday night’s 75th Emmys particularly interesting to me is that they come at the end of a season unlike any other, in which virtually all traditional Emmy campaign tactics — as in, famous people shaking hands, kissing babies, doing interviews, appearing on FYC panels, etc. — were removed from the equation.
Even during the Covid-impacted 2020 and 2021 Emmy seasons, talent did press and made appearances, albeit remotely, which unquestionably shaped the viewing and voting priorities of TV Academy members. But the 2023 Emmy season — nomination voting for which ran June 15-26, final voting for which ran Aug. 17-28 — had none of that, at least after the Writers Guild went on strike on May 2, followed by SAG-AFTRA on July 14, with the former not resolving until Sept. 27 and the latter until Nov. 9.
Therefore, it seems to me, voter considerations that led to the nominees that we got were as follows:...

Salaar Box Office Day 10 (Early Trends): 400 Crore Mark Is The Next Destination For Prabhas, But… (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Prabhas might be one of the luckiest actors who are still getting any kind of work after delivering films like Saaho, Radhe Shyam & Adipurush. Yes, Prashanth Neel’s direction has packaged the Rebel Star in the way his fans demanded, but still, something was missing from Salaar.
Remember, Neel is the same person who gave Yash ‘Rocky Bhai,’ a character he would be celebrated for in the years to come. Releasing during the festive season is a lucky place to be in, but not if you’re clashing with a film that stars Indian cinema’s one of the biggest stars.

While you can always rely on Hallmark and other channels to provide a frankly overwhelming number of new Christmas movies each year, the streaming services have all been slower to crank out their own Yuletide romcoms and North Pole-centric misadventures. This year there are a solid half-dozen options among four streamers, starring plenty of familiar faces going through the usual holiday hijinks in suburbia: Christmas cards, delayed toy delivery, body swaps. If you’ve seen it before, you can expect it again with pretty paper and a bow!

The National Film Registry just granted immortality to 25 classic films. Every year, the Library of Congress chooses another class to be preserved for posterity, and this year’s group includes some major blockbusters like “Terminator 2,” “Home Alone,” and “Apollo 13.”
To be eligible, a film must be at least 10 years old and carry what the library considers to be “cultural, historic or aesthetic importance,” in consultation with National Film Preservation Board members and other experts.
The list now stands at 875 remarkable films. If you’d like to nominate your favorite film for preservation, just fill out this form.

Have you ever wanted to trade places with someone else, even just for an hour? Well, the old adage “walk a mile in someone else’s shoes” has spurred an entire comedy movie sub-genre: the sometimes hilarious, plenty times not, body swap trope that sits right up there with buddy movies and road trip plots for recognizable narrative arcs.
The concept has been explored with plenty of non-comedy body swaps; it’s a staple in the horror genre thanks to possessions (“Invasion of the Body Snatchers”), Satanic rituals (“The Skeleton Key”), sacrifices gone wrong (“Jennifer’s Body”), and plain ol’ demons (“The Exorcist”). Then, there’s the surgical body swap that lacks the certain je n’ai sais quoi of mystical intervention that comedies such as the live-action “Scooby Doo” movie and “All of Me” offer.
And doe time travel count as body swapping? As much as we love “13 Going on 30,” “Big,...

Plot: Jess and Bill Walker are doing their best to keep their family connected as their children grow older, more independent, and more distant. When a chance encounter with an astrological reader causes the family to wake up to a full body switch, on the morning of the most important day of each of their lives, can the Walkers unite to land a promotion, college interview, record deal and soccer tryout?
Review: In the sub-genre of body swap movies, very few films stand out as quality films. The concept itself is ridiculous and silly and tends to aim more toward family-friendly fare like Freaky Friday and 13 Going On 30. Still, even those movies benefitted from some personality and edge that helped them earn some originality, a quality sorely lacking in Netflix’s new Christmas-themed comedy Family Switch. Everything you need to know about this movie is showcased in the trailer,...

At this point, the body switch comedy genre is pretty well worn. Big, Freaky Friday (twice), 17 Again, 13 Going on 30, etc., have pretty much defined and exhausted what can be done with the concept to keep it fresh. The latter 2004 hit actually starred Jennifer Garner, who is now returning to the genre again, this time as producer and star of Netflix’s holiday comedy Family Switch.
This time around, the formula is expanded to have an entire family experience a life-altering cosmic moment and become their opposites. The parents become their kids, the kids become their parents, even the baby becomes the French Bulldog. Guess what? It works, even offering some Lol moments along the way in a movie that isn’t trying to reinvent anything here, just finding a new angle to squeeze some more life out of it.

Mark Ruffalo revealed that his casting in the 2007 serial killer drama Zodiac didn’t go quite as some may think.
In a recent interview with High Snobiety, the actor said a studio rep made it clear that they didn’t particularly want him in the Paramount Pictures film.
“I’ll never forget when they were negotiating my deal [for Zodiac], the studio negotiator literally said to my manager, ‘Look, we don’t give a shit about Mark Ruffalo, we don’t even want Mark Ruffalo in this movie, so you’re going to take what we’re offering you or forget it,'” Ruffalo recalled.
In Zodiac, directed by David Fincher, two reporters, Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr., become obsessed with tracking down the Zodiac Killer, an unidentified murderer who went on a killing spree in San Francisco in the 1970s. Ruffalo portrayed Detective David Toschi in the movie.

It’s been 13 years since Jack Nicholson appeared in “How Do You Know,” a dud of a romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson.
While the supporting role wasn’t the high point of Nicholson’s career — and brought the Hollywood legend to nearly 80 total acting credits — it did little to diminish a legacy that features a formidable if not unmatchable roll call of cinema classics that includes “The Departed” (2006), “The Shining” (1980), “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (1975) and “Chinatown” (1974), among others.
And though he never announced his retirement, the film by all accounts will be his last. One of those accounts surfaced in the “Wtf With Marc Maron” podcast this week, during a wide-ranging interview with famed record producer, Sunset Strip impresario and longtime Nicholson friend Lou Adler.

The latest feature from David Fincher, a big-budget drama series from Steven Knight and Shawn Levy, and an Oscar hopeful starring Annette Bening and Jodie Foster are among the standout new additions hitting Netflix in November.
With The Killer, Fincher reteams with Seven writer Andrew Kevin Walker to adapt the graphic novel written by Alexis Nolent. The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival this year and debuts on Netflix on Nov. 10, stars Michael Fassbender as a shadowy unnamed assassin and features a cast that includes Arliss Howard, Charles Parnell, Gabriel Polanco, Kerry O’Malley, Emiliano Pernía, Sala Baker, Sophie Charlotte and Tilda Swinton.
The Hollywood Reporter‘s review of The Killer described the film as “a satisfyingly retro, location-hopping genre exercise with fisticuffs, gadgets (albeit ones bought from Amazon) and smooth-talking antagonists that all plays like a tongue-in-cheek spoof of James Bond movies.”

For almost 50 years, John Williams' music has been virtually synonymous with the films of Steven Spielberg (and vice versa), and for nearly as long, Williams' compositions have formed the emotional backbone of the Skywalker Saga from "Star Wars." However, 20 years before the cinematic musical maestro become known for either of those things, Williams was merely a whipper-snapper fresh out of Julliard and eager to leave his mark on the worlds of concert and film music.
Williams' pre-Spielberg run would have made for an incredible career all by itself. It was an era that saw the composer collaborating with numerous giants among the old guard of Hollywood directors, including Robert Altman, Don Siegel, William Wyler, Irwin Allen, Frank Sinatra, and Norman Jewison. In 1974, Williams worked with Spielberg for the first time on the filmmaker's theatrical feature debut, "The Sugarland Express." If there is cinematic butt to be kicked, rest assured that Jason Statham will be at the front of the line. Since he burst onto the scene in Guy Ritchie’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998, he’s left a lot of broken bodies and wrecked cars in his wake. And when Expendables 4 rolls out on September 20, he will be nearing his 50th film, the lion’s share being unapologetic explosive action.
Statham makes movies with staying power. He’s made four Expendables films, three Transporters, two Mechanics (2011 and 2016), tw0 Cranks (2006 and 2009) and two Megs (2018 and 2023). Oh, yes, he also jumped into the Fast and Furious universe, making Furious 7 (2015), The Fate of the Furious (2017), Fast X (2023) and the spinoff Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw (2019), teaming with Dwayne Johnson.
As a leading man, his films have delivered $1.8 billion worldwide, according to The Numbers.

We have our final three!
After a few challenging competitions between MasterChef Season 13 Episode 17 and Masterchef Season 13 Episode 18, the herd has thinned out, and we've got our top three who will compete to take the prize home.
Did you anticipate Kennedy, Grant, and Jennifer for the finale?
From a Hell's Kitchen crossover that was, well, from hell to challenging pasta dishes and attempting to follow the master that is Gordon Ramsay, it was a jam-packed double feature of Masterchef.
And it's time to unpack the highlights of it.

Seeing the remaining contestants dolled up and prancing into Hell's Kitchen for the first time was nice.

"Star Wars" lore has a history that spans over four decades. It's had its ups and its downs over the years, and the prequels released between 1999 and 2005 often end up in the latter category. They are a bit of a mess to some, though to others, they providedepth and context to the original trilogy.
No matter what side of the prequel debate you land on, one scene is hard to watch without being moved. It's the "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" scene where Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) battles Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) on Mustafar, losing limbs, burning to a crisp, leading to the final part of his transformation into Darth Vader.
There may be some pretty stilted acting in the prequels, but this scene always gets me, even when I'm rolling my eyes at other things. It's just heartbreaking when you know what's coming for Anakin...

When "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" was released to theaters in 2019, it was promoted as "The 9th Film by Quentin Tarantino." Technically, this is true. Though "Kill Bill" was split into two volumes due to its 247-minute runtime, it is one complete story. Still, there is one intriguing what-if that could bump Tarantino up into 10 completed features -- one that presaged his pop-culture cuisinart sensibility while displaying, in the crudest of forms, his formal daring.
The film is called "My Best Friend's Birthday," and only 36 minutes remain of what was once a 70-minute shoestring-budget indie comedy that, had Tarantino had been able to splice his footage into a coherent story, might've been able to land a competition slot at the Sundance Film Festival. Because, despite its ultra lo-fi aesthetic, it's got a hyper-referential swagger that plays like Jean-Luc Godard on a cocaine binge.

The top ten has descended upon us, and the competition couldn't be hotter and more emotional.
At this point in the game, it's tough to see anyone go home because they've devoted so much of their time to improving and growing while delivering great dishes.

When you have more landlocked people, they don't have access to an array of fish as someone coastal or those who live on islands or peninsulas.

Israeli networks have taken the unprecedented step of banding together to form an emergency group forum opposing the government’s new media bill.
A statement from Reshet 13, Keshet 12 and public broadcaster Kan said the Israeli TV Channels Forum will “operate in an emergency mode in order to prevent the expected harm to media independence and freedom of the press as a result of the reform.”
The group of decades-old channels are responding to a bill championed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi, which they say has made “the takeover of the media market the government’s next target” – following the controversial judicial reform. The forum is already active and prominent execs from various channels, legal advisors and regulatory personnel will convene for the first time in the coming days.
The proposals, which are expected to pass but not for months, include the significant reduction of local original content quotas,...

Oh, there is plenty to celebrate in the Gordon Ramsay universe.
It was a milestone hour for the series with MasterChef Season 13 Episode 9, which served as the 250th episode of this long-running series, and no one can say they didn't celebrate it in style.
One of the best (and maybe worst for some of our home cooks) ways of commemorating the occasion is with cake; there were so many different cakes to choose from here.
But not only was it the 250th episode of the series, but we got the exciting news that Masterchef is renewed for another season! And with that, heading into the hour would be a good time unless your favorite contestant went home.
Let 'Em Bake Cake
We already caught a glimpse of the sparkler 250 cake situation with the judges celebrating during our Masterchef sneak peek.
But nothing topped seeing the smorgasbord of cases from every...

The competition is heating up, and some chefs are crashing and burning.
Yes, the pun is most definitely intended after the events of MasterChef Season 13 Episode 7.
An attempt at saluting first responders, cooking a delicious meal for 101 firefighters essentially went up in flames and had at least two judges hot in the collar.
And no one wants to deal with angry chefs!
It was a downright hellish hour, and while more than a few home cooks couldn't take the heat, only one had to leave the kitchen. Let's get into it.
Burn, Baby Burn!
The next challenge that the regional contestants got should have been a great one. It allowed them to put together an impressive menu, a tremendous act of service in providing meals for hometown heroes, and winning and getting an edge during the next challenge.
It should have been relatively straightforward, and yet nearly everything fell apart for them.

Only a select few rappers can move seamlessly from what is considered rap’s underground into a successful mainstream career. Chicago rapper Lucki’s 2022 project Flawless Like Me reached number 12 on the Billboard 200, while his new highly anticipated album S*ex M*ney Dr*gs, released last week, earned him his highest streaming day of all time on Spotify with 8 million streams. It’s a culmination of a 10-year run of projects that have earned Lucki one of rap’s most loyal fanbases, on par with Playboi Carti’s infamous army of stans.

“Do people tell you you look like…” is often the start of a seemingly innocuous celebrity/fan interaction.
And yet, as Fleishman is in Trouble star Claire Danes points out, it can be a tremendously awkward thing to respond to. “I think they think they’re being gracious, and they are, but I’m stymied by that,” she says. “It’s like I short circuit.”
Others acknowledge that they’ve taken the out when fans approach, either uncertain of exactly who they are or of whether they are, in fact, famous. “I say no,” offers Yellowjackets star Melanie Lynskey, and both Jennifer Garner and Emma D’Arcy admit they’ve done the same.
As part of The Hollywood Reporter‘s Emmy roundtable series this year, we asked every participant what they typically hear when fans approach them on the street and how they regularly respond. The answers varied significantly.

For some, the frenzied search (and hope) surrounding the Titan submersible brought to mind the Apollo 13 near-disaster, which featured NASA astronauts marooned in space aboard a malfunctioning spacecraft, with time and oxygen running out. Fortunately, the Apollo 13 tale had a happier ending, which made it perfect fodder for a Hollywood big-screen retelling. Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, and the late Bill Paxton starred as the three astronauts aboard the crippled ship, with Hanks playing mission Commander Jim Lovell. During the making of the film, Lovell himself was present on the set, and Hanks admitted to us that he felt a lot of pressure playing the real-life character.
