I really liked it. However I think when you have that many characters it's probably not a good idea to introduce a new one, especially a character like the Black Panther. He's cool, he's just not that well known. I wonder if they introduced him because there might be a Black Panther movie coming up? Anyway, my main gripe with the movie is the Hulk. He's the reason why I and a lot of others watch the movies in the first place, and then after the first one they just sideline him? What kind of logic is that? The Hulk is money in the bank (green). Way way way underused/abused. Bring him back. I think the creators (who have done a great job) should look at Bruce Timm et al.'s Justice League series to handle that amount of characters and still please everyone. I think JL was done in such a way (that is, after the first season's somewhat rocky start)that the episodes played to each of the characters strengths. I don't think this has happened in the Ultimate Avengers 2. The first one was much closer to accomplishing that. Also, after the first one and waiting for the second I was disappointed with the plot, same villains, same set up. I was like, "The first movie all over again..." It obviously wasn't exactly like the first but I thought it would have played better if the creators broke from the first one altogether and started a new plot. I was disappointed with the plot in UA2. Over all, it's very good. Animation is great, action is great, voice talent great. It's great to see Captain America back the way he always should have been. I think with these creators we're in very good hands. But bring back the Hulk!!!!
  • I walked away from the first Ultimate Avengers movie somewhat underwhelmed, I felt it lacked depth and a decent antagonist.

Though this suffers from many of the same issues I consider it an improvement. Although there is little story to speak of its direct continuation gives it an additional star from me.

Telling the story of the Chitauri returning to attack Africa and the Black Panther joining the Avengers to fend them off. Pretty standard stuff, but its been done relatively well.

I'm just not keen on the "Ultimate" stuff, I like consistency not alternative dimensions and timelines. Because of this there are bits here and there that bothered me more than they really should.

A harmless effort for fans of Marvel anime but don't expect much.

    The Good:

    Improvement on the first

    Great antagonist

    Direct sequel

    The Bad:

    Some characters look weird

    Panther powers, really?
  • Earth's mightiest heroes are back (already!) for another home video run following the success of the previous Avengers movie. The movie seems to pick up not-too-long after the first, with the heroes separated and doing their own thing. Bruce Banner/the Incredible Hulk is locked up for the tantrum he through in the first movie. Steve Rogers/Captain America is slowly becoming a loner, preferring to work missions alone. The Pyms, Hank and Janet, are experiencing some marital problems, and Thor has completely dropped off the radar. The heroes are reunited when the Chitauri return, led by Herr Kleiser, who was thought to have been killed by Captain America near the end of World War II. This time the Chitauri have their eyes set on the isolated African nation of Wakanda, ruled by T'Challa/the Black Panther.

This is the second movie in Marvel's animated line, and they have managed to make minor improvements over the previous. Unfortunately, they haven't made any attempts to improve on the animation style at all. So, the closer you see a character, the more hiccups and stiffness you see in the animation. Of course, the action scenes still look awesome, and we get some great battles out of Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. Seeing as how the Hulk is restrained for the majority of the movie, we don't get the same raw power out of him that was exhibited in Avengers I.

The Black Panther was an excellent addition to the movie and made for an entertaining enough story. I have been interested in the Black Panther storyline since I first started reading up on him so it was nice to see him included in the latest Avengers installment. While the first movie's story was thin, this time around we are treated to more history and slightly more character development. My only major complaint with the story in Avengers II was the Chitauri...I think it's time to move on. There are plenty of villains/angry alien races out there. The only thought to cross my mind when I saw the Chitauri in this movie was: "Again?". I'm hoping that they try something fresh next time.

And, of course, its nice to see that Marvel didn't sugarcoat this movie down to a PG or G rating in an effort to appeal to the grade school crowd. They included enough action (even included a little brutality) to earn the movie a PG-13. All in all, this movie is better than the first, but not by leaps and bounds. Although, if the pattern continues, I think we can expect some real gems out of Marvel's animated line-up in the future.
  • In an age of silly anime and dumbed down cartoons, this Ultimate Avengers franchise is more then a breath of fresh air. Films like Ultimate Avengers 2 (and that's just what it is ... a full blown feature film)take the classic Marvel grandeur and add a modern twist. The action is intense and the story flows so very well. Classic Marvel characters like Iron Man, Captain America and the Black Panther (the worlds first African-American superhero) really shine in this format. My only real disappointment lies in the fact that the Hulk wasn't really used and that the Thor depicted is nothing but a watered down version of the classic Thor. Still, the other characters and the riveting story more then make up for any shortcomings. The alien threat from the first film is handled and resolved brilliantly while doing so without it being necessary for the viewer to have seen the first movie. That's a hard thing to pull off but, like the rest of the movie, they did it so very well.

Great animated movie that's well worth anyone's time and effort.
  • for my money, this animated movie is as good as the first Ultimate Avengers movie.the storyline is almost the same, but there is an interesting sub plot which works well and ties into the main storyline with ease.this is is just as action packed, but more intense and may not be appropriate for under 13's.this movie also has some funny moments, which i didn't notice too much in the first one.like the first one, this is a short feature,at just under 75 minutes, but again, there is a lot packed into the running time.as i mentioned earlier, this movie is as good as the original.if you liked the first Ultimate Avengers movie, you should like Ultimate Avengers 2: 7/10
  • I only started to review it now, well, the DVD came to Singapore and I watched it. Not bad for an animation, with cool animation to blow you off but it is the story plot that is not wonderfully good as it is straight forward with a twist in the end (a death of a superhero). It is more violent and bloodier than the first movie. As I say, the second movie will always be better than the first one. Ultimate avengers 2 starts off with the death of the black panther and the son takes over him. Now he goes to find Captain America and asks him to join forces with him to defeat the whatever monsters coming to destroy the world. Super story but short. Its' actions will blast you off with its' cool music but what can we do if the plot is just straight forward. I am not saying I hate the movie but they can extend it, not making the two movies like a mini-movie series. Oh well, I don't know whether they are making Ultimate avengers 3 but if they do, it better be the best of all the Ultimate avengers movies.

Well, the special features are nothing much but it does have some cool sneak previews. If you want to watch it, you will have no choice but to buy the DVD.
  • Warning: Spoilers
With ultimate Avengers 2, i can see that Marvel is moving away from just doing another animated adaptation of "The Ultimates"(an excellent graphic novel miniseries by Mark Millar) but rather, establishing the "Ultimate Avenger" universe as a separate animated universe altogether.

The Black Panther is introduced here and the whole Chitauri arc from the first movie is carried on to a satisfying conclusion. Overall better than the first movie but my main beef is that IT'S TOO SHORT!!!!

A few points good and bad 1) The violence. Its been taken up a notch with the movie starting off with the bloody death of the original Black Panther. Every punch, cut, and hit that the characters take are presented very intensely. Not overly violence as, say, SPAWN, but sufficiently bloody to not want to let 11 year olds and below to watch.

    2) The story. Definitely better than the first since it doesn't have any prior graphic novel to live up to. the story does sufficiently well on its own, only problem is that its too short.

    3) THe characters. Give and take. Some characters like Captain American, Black Panther and Bruce banner are developed very well here and you get to understand their full intentions and purpose on why they do what they do and why they are who they are. I expected more from Hank Pym(Giant Man) though, *SPOILER*seeing as how he dies at the end*SPOILER END*

4)The animation. Got better i must say. THe matte backgrounds are definitely more stunning and less "flat" compared to those in the first movie, especially the external jungle and Wakanda scenes. However, the inconsistency is still there. Great scenes like Black Panther's first battle with the Avengers + Captain America and Black Panther's final fight with Klaiser all are very detailed, very smooth animation with high frame rate and no "short cuts". However, the "big" scenes like the aliens worldwide invasion and the Wakanda alien big battle look terrible. The move to do everything in traditional 2D is a noble one in this day and age of overly used 3D animation, but a good blending of 2D and cel-shaded 3D would have been better for the big battle scenes. The animation is still not up to MOVIE standard but will suffice as a TV show.

Once again, if Marvel had combined Ultimate Avengers 1 and 2 and Marketed them as, say, a 8 episode miniseries? I'm sure people wont be so quick to criticize. But alas, they marketed them as 2 movies and thus making the public expect MOVIE quality animation and story. What we have is a top-of-the-line first few episodes of a TV series, or good OVA miniseries, or sub-par movie.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Everyone is bantering on about who animated the movie - was it a Japanese studio or American - it doesn't matter, whether it was Dong Wu or Mr.Smith what it boils down to is the actual overall quality of the experience. Starting off with the sadly disappointing retro 80s animation which is what everyone is sorely irritated with by this day and age. It looks as appealing as those short lived Heathcliff series, it's stock and we deserve better damn it! The only thing that makes these DVD's passable is the plot and character development, some dialogue, Hulk's fighting sequences and of course the spoof in the special features. Otherwise it's all recycled and familiar basic formulas. Let's use some of that money generated towards some CGI and not just use it for spacecrafts and background edifices etc.. get off your large & lazy arses.
  • The animation is superb! This movie is a sequel to the first Ultimate Avengers movie and maybe even a better one! They paid more attention to developing characters, but it could have been much more.Because that is what makes these superheroes special! There were nice little surprises in this movie and I don't know if this is based on actual story lines in the marvel comics. It is nice to see a mature approach of things, just like in the comics. For me "UM2" is an example of what can be achieved if they take the myths created by Marvel Comics seriously!. I can't get enough of this! Bring it on,make more of these kind of movies! Although Bruce Banner also starred in this movie, the Hulk didn't appear very long. Too bad, because it is always nice to see Hulk smash things. Next time more Hulk, or even an animated movie of Hulk!
  • The new Black Panther seeks out Captain America to avenge his father's death by an evil alien, so General Fury assembles the Avengers to come along. This was my first sighting of Thor's power of precognition and of teleportation. What happened to the extras of ULTIMATE AVENGERS I? Pop-up trivia is one thing, but no subtitles at all? Also, the Black Panther's village has an uneasy juxtaposition of low-tech and high-tech; ah the wonders of vibranium.

Still, the interaction between Captain America and Giant Man is fun, as is that between Cap and Black Widow. It has a nice scene of Tony Stark among his various Iron Man armors, including War Machine. I give it a lower score because it feels more like an advertisement for the Marvel Alliance video game, for Iron Man, and for Doctor Strange than a self-contained movie.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Picking up where the first Ultimate Avengers left off, UA2 finds the Avengers not getting along very well as they encounter the Black Panther and continue to deal with the alien invaders of the first feature. Thor is mostly absent from the film as he's off on some personal quest of his own that keeps him separated from the other heroes until the climax, while Bruce Banner/Hulk spends most of the feature incarcerated for the destruction he caused before.

IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE FILM, DO NOT READ FURTHER, THERE BE SPOILERS HERE:

I'm going to go out on a limb here by going against the grain of the previous reviews, because honestly I don't think 'Ultimate Avengers 2' is particularly good. Heck, the animated direct to DVD features from Marvel & DC have been pretty hit & miss on both sides, and sadly UA2 is a miss for Marvel.

The first Ultimate Avengers, while not perfect, was still a solid introduction to the characters, their dynamics and their personal issues. The sequel, however, fails to offer any truly satisfying resolutions to those problems. Captain America's struggle to adjust to the 21st century and the effect it's having on his personality & work ethic is touched upon again but it never really goes anywhere, nor does the brief contrast shown between Iron Man and Captain America ever really develop, and his hook up at the end with Black Widow feels forced despite some previous hints of a mutual infatuation between them. Similarly, the marital problems between Hank 'Giant Man' Pym and his wife Janet 'Wasp' Pym are revisited and shown to have gotten worse, as Hank is made out to be an even bigger asshole with an over-sized ego here than he was in the first film, but as with Captain America's problems, the manner in which it is concluded - with Giant Man dying in the final act in what is apparently meant to be his redemption for being an egocentric jerk for most of the story - is not a satisfying one. If anything, Giant Man's death feels forced in the most laughable manner, partly because he really didn't even take enough abuse during the fight to warrant dying.

Iron Man himself was one of the few highlights of the film, and Black Panther came across pretty good, but that doesn't redeem the film's big flaw: it feels like it was rushed out the gate as quickly as possible, and the story & characters suffer for it. It's too bad, because the potential for a better animated film was definitely there, but it just wasn't utilized.

Still, the outtakes in the special features section were pretty funny.

This was an EXCELLENT movie. I have watched it 4 times since I have got it. Many times, in succession with the first. A very quality animation. There is no need to watch the first to enjoy this. Any average person can jump in and enjoy this.

    Now, onto the spoilers.

The Blank Panther was spectacularly implemented. Everythign from his claws to the suit was awe-inspiring. The authors took some artistic liberties with it though. For instance, they made the suit transform to a liking of a panther, (in the face) when the user, (T'Challa") gets angry or emotional. Still, quite excellent.

Thor was... Godly :) Iron Man's War Machiene suit was sick. And whoever wrote his characters lines did excellent. I love some of his lines. The emotional hook of Giant Man and Wasp was not over-bearing but it was there and it did its job. You felt the attachment and, I, was a little disappointed by Gian Man's death... Touching. The authors showed a new side of Cap. Instead of being entirely self-righteous, he showed his bitter side. I thought it added more depth to the character and played off nicely. As always, the Black Widow provided the sexy sense of adult that the animation might have been lacking previously. She was the glue that help Cap and the team together, it seemed to me.

The hulk was a minor spot-light in this film, if he showed at all. But that is understandable if you have seen the previous film. Shame, he is a star hero ;-)

Overall, a GREAT movie, though I liked the first one a little better, due to some of the battles. The Hulk - Avengers battle was on of the best I've seen in the animated comic universe.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I REALLY liked the first Ultimate Avengers movie. It had a superb animation style, it showed a team-up between some of my favorite Marvel Comics (who if you ask me is a little better than DC comics) characters (Thor was under-appreciated) and it had an interesting story (although it was a bit similar to the way the JL members met).

After seeing that movie Ultimate Avengers 2 was the movie I mostly anticipated. I knew that it was going to introduce the Black Panther and that the Shatauri (sorry if I misspelled it) would return. Having seen the Fantastic Four series I knew that Rakanda had lots of vibranium and so I anticipated a bit of the plot.

Anyway, after I saw the second movie, DC comics became my favorite comic book publisher. Why, well, in one word, because the movie disappointed me.

Don't READ AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE.

The movie was too short, I don't like how they put emphasis on Captain America - Blakc Widow or Wasp-Giant Man relationship (I don't want a soap opera), the Hulk and Thor were SOOO under-used and, by far the worst aspect of the movie, the death of Giant Man made me throw the movie out the window after I had seen it. I don;t like it when heroes die, because I don't watch super hero movies so that evil may triumph over a good, IN ANY WAY. If Giant man does not come back somehow in Ultimate Avengers 3, a big boo for Marvel.

Don;t get me wrong, the movie is not bad, but it focuses more on issues from real life like love, courage, etc. than on making a cool and developed plot. Anyway, hopefully the sequel will make it better.

If you are a Marvel fan or if you liked the first movie, watch it. Otherwise, no way Jose.

    Warning: Spoilers
I saw Ultimate Avengers two years ago on the same weekend as the second one. I just found both of the movies massively insulting to the Marvel Universe.

The First and second movies were just plain tedious because apparently in this universe when the war was over, Bucky doesn't become the Winter Soldier but instead, he retires and steels Steve Rogers, wife/girlfriend. Oh but it doesn't stop there Hank Pym is more or less like Scott Lang in this universe because he is a massive jerk to the Avengers and his main priority is his wife and only his wife for example in the first mission when the Avengers were in trouble and he heard Janet scream. But in the end, Ant-Man makes a good sacrifice. He was about to break the building down and not worried about the other Avengers. In the second movie, he was the same except that this time when his wife was hurt he threaten to throw Captain America out if he didn't leave. The Hulk was just a mindless brute like in the MCU and the reason why Betty divorced Bruce was because of the Hulk. Speaking of I didn't really find Betty a nice woman in these films because of that. Thor, Iron Man, Wasp (Apart from the fact she looked too much like Hope Pym and had darker skin colour), Black Panther and Black Widow were just themselves. Speaking of Black Panther in the second movie we get introduced to him, I found this one just too bloody and brutal when a General stabbed his dad and when the General got stabbed a couple of times but wasn't even dying. I also found it just plain stupid that Iron Man was wearing the War Machine Armor. If you are an Avengers fan I would recommend you don't waste your money on these movies. You might be disappointed. My overall score 4/10 for both movies.
  • 'Ultimate Avengers II (2006)' doesn't stick as close to its source-material as its predecessor, instead introducing Black Panther and having much of the action take place in and around Wakanda. Its changes aren't necessarily detrimental, however, and it feels like a unique sequel to the first film. It still keeps the spirit of the comic-book intact, providing the great characterisations you'd expect from an adaptation of it. It makes a couple of risky decisions, only one of which is seemingly slightly - and only slightly - neutered to fit its 'kid-friendly' status. The flick ends up being just as enjoyable as the first, even if it is slightly sillier and isn't quite as well-rounded overall. The pacing is much better this time, though, and there's never a dull moment. The plentiful - and sometimes surprisingly brutal - action is often compounded by tangible stakes, which makes for an experience you constantly care about. It really is remarkable how character-focused the flick is, even during its brasher bits. The set-pieces can seem a little segmented at times, however. The animation is bloom-heavy and sometimes stiff, but it is more than serviceable and allows for the quieter moments to work as well as the loud ones. In the end, the movie is a breeze to watch and a blast while you do. 7/10

Ultimate Avengers 2 picks right up where the first movie left off. Again, It's simply a brilliant rendition of Marvel's (and Earth's) Mightiest Heroes. What surprised me is the fact that this second film establishes the characters better and has substantial character development. I know that sounds strange when describing a cartoon but these characters really shine this time around.

Like with the first film, I've read different reactions and I've heard from both sides of the adaptation debate. Some serious Ultimates fans wanted this movie to be an exact reenactment of the comic book. Marvel instead made a conscious decision to infuse the old school Avengers in to the Ultimates mix. It's still a good call and a masterful decision. The combination works very well. Gone are the overblown and, quite frankly, juvenile elements of the Ultimates. Having a horny Hulk or an outrageously abusive Henry Pym may work to capture the teenage comic crowd (which is exactly why the Ultimate Universe was created) but it doesn't play with main stream audiences. The ONLY reason the Ultimates succeeded as a book is because of the incredible artwork of Bryan Hitch (which is on ample display in the Ultimates bonus featurette). The characters that made the Ultimates possible in the first place shines through. Captain America is still perfect. You can really see why Marvel is lining up to give him his own live action movie. The introduction of the Black Panther is perfect as well. Iron Man steals the show and his shift to War Machine armor will have long time fans grinning from ear to ear. My only two problems were with the treatment of Henry Pym and the lack of substantial Hulk action (Hulk does smash but not near enough) but those are just minor quibbles. Overall, this is a wonderful movie.

PS- I can't wait for the Iron Man solo movie they previewed on the DVD. The jury is still out on Dr. Strange, however.
  • That is not to say at all that I disliked the first Ultimate Avengers or anything. Actually I did enjoy it, even if I didn't love it. Ultimate Avengers 2 is not quite perfect either, the Hulk is underused and Giant Man's death for me was a little forced. On the other hand, the animation is great, the character designs are much less jerky and more focused here and the colours and backgrounds are detailed and coloured beautifully. The score is full of drive and again has a haunting undercurrent, the writing is sharp and the action is grittier and is exciting. The characters apart from Hulk are interesting, Black Panther is a great addition and Thor is much better written than he was in the first one. The pace is much more even, the first half-hour doesn't feel all that dragged out and the ending is not as rushed. There is much more story here as a result, and it is compelling stuff indeed. The voice acting is solid across as the board with nobody coming across as a thorn in the side. All in all, a very good film and better than the first in my view. 8/10 Bethany Cox
  • Warning: Spoilers
I just finished watching the movie (for the 2nd time in a row), and I'm planning on viewing it again. Probably one of my favorite movies of all time.

Now a lot of people are comparing it with the first movie, so here are my thoughts on the comparison:

    1. Action - there was a lot more action in this movie, and the action was more brutal (panther tearing up that super alien was sweet). But the quality of the action scenes in the first movie were better. In this movie, we get to see a lot of little skirmishes which showcase the abilities of each character, but there was no major battle scene like the hulk rumble we had in the first movie. The battle between panther and capt. America vs kleus (i know its spelled wrong) could have been a lot better if there weren't so many cuts. You had the impression you were viewing a comic strip (but it was still sweet coz it was so brutal). Thor wasn't given enough action in this film... although they did showcase a lot more of his other talents (like teleportation). and thor did save the most number of lives (saved the whole avengers team, saved pym, saved ironman). but i was really wanting to see him kick butt. Hulk didn't do anything... just slammed an alien or two. So between the 2 movies, i loved the action of the 1st more.

    2. Story - the 2nd movie definitely had more story. We are given a flash back of capt's story; then given a background on t'challa (black panther); then there's the subtle love stories of pym-wasp, capt-widow, banner-betty. And we're also given a sneak preview into the armory of tony...and of course the hints of thor's prodigality with his father. There maybe some who wouldn't appreciate this kind of plots in a comic book film, but we're forgetting that this is only 1 film in 8, and it is necessary to build up the stories of each character to establish them.

So, I actually liked this 2nd movie better, just for the fact that it had a thicker plot to it and could absorb you more in its story. I was just a bit disappointed with the action though... they should have added an entire 30 mins to the film just so they could give more emphasis to the fight scenes. The capt.a-panther-kleus could have been so much better and would have been the highlight of the movie. I hope the makers of this movie could read a couple of these posts, so they could do something and make the next movie a lot longer.
  • Warning: Spoilers
This second one deals with people from Africa the aliens want something that is made their. The Africans don't want the Avengers help at fighting the aliens cause their outsiders. The black is the new king over their he has the power to change their foolish laws if only he can just man up to his own people. At least Thor stud up to his father and help the humans in their fight after his father forbids it cause Thor is a true God. I hate the fact that the Hulk was not shown much in this film but i love the fact that Giant Man died cause he didn't care if Capton America died plus he was just too cocky. i'm happy to see that Iron Man has moved on to bigger better and more powerful armor. also Capton America and the black Widow has finally kissed each other in the end.
  • Being a fan of the marvel superhero cartoons of the 1960's, I enjoyed seeing Captain America, Thor, Hulk and Iron Man together in this 73 minute gem.

I enjoyed the violence and action.

If you enjoyed this as much as I did then check out other classic animated superhero flicks, Hulk Vs. 2009, Batman: Under the Red Hood 2010, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths 2010, The Transformers: The Movie 1986, G.I. Joe: The Movie 1987, Batman: The Killing Joke 2016, Batman: Assault on Arkham 2014, Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay 2018 and Superman/Batman: Public Enemies 2009.

If only Sam Liu would direct a 2 hour R rated blood soaked epic flick featuring all animated superheroes in battle against each other to the death.

    Good!
Yes! Black Panther! I liked the first Ultimate Avengers more, but this was an enjoyable movie!
  • Warning: Spoilers
This follow up to the first Ultimate Avengers movie benefits from not having to incorporate origin / set up material. It leaps head first into its story, albeit the story follows on from the end of the first movie.

This time the key plot factor is that the Chitauri aliens from the first movie are after the vibranium deposit in Wakanda, which means we are introduced to T'Challa, as well as Captain America's old foe Kleiser, who turns out to be a Chitauri.

There is as much soapy stuff about the characters' problems and interactions as there is action relating to the main plot and, to be frank, I could have done without that - I like my superheroes to be heroes. But I appreciate it for what it is.

The animation is no better than Saturday morning TV animation.

    But it's not bad.
