Though he is a household name today, actor Jon Hamm struggled for over a dozen years to land a significant acting role, while waiting tables and waiting for his big break. That came in 2007 when he was cast on the new series Mad Men as Don Draper, a suave advertising executive and a cheating husband, whose past remained a tantalizing mystery. Thanks to Hamm's superb acting skills, Draper become one of television's most iconic characters of the 21st century.
But Hamm was not finished there. A 2008 job guest hosting Saturday Night Live revealed an entirely new side of Hamm, an unexpected comedic skill that brought him to the attention of Tina Fey (who cast him in her series 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and Kristen Wiig, who fashioned a part for him in her smash hit film Bridesmaids. The laughs that Hamm generated in those projects brought him critical acclaim,...

At the heart of every true crime show, movie, book and podcast lies the same uncomfortable reality: The worst epoch in a victim’s life, the pain from which ripples through their loved ones’ lives forever, becomes a form of ghastly entertainment for the masses.
Happy Face, which premiered today on Paramount+, acknowledges and wrestles with that quandary as it tells the story of Melissa G. Moore, who learned at age 15 that her father was a serial killer. The series is inspired by on Moore’s podcast of the same name and her book Shattered Silence, which chronicled her experiences...

Steady character actors are often some of the most unsung heroes of film and television, providing a consistent presence that can anchor a narrative and provide easy visual language for an audience to latch onto. Occasionally, some character actors are able to transcend to leading performances themselves, showing their abilities beyond being a more background player in a film or TV show.
Walton Goggins made his mark playing small roles in huge films, until he began taking more leading roles in television in the late 2010s and 2020s. His performances show his range as both a dramatic and comedic actor, and prove that an actor can have a huge impact in even the smallest of roles.

Breaking Bad broke all records when it premiered in 2008. People absolutely loved its storyline that presented actor Bryan Cranston as the meth kingpin Walter White. While it was among the highest-rated shows out there, creator Vince Gilligan nearly pulled the plug on his iconic crime saga before it could truly take flight.

Throughout the seven seasons spread across nearly eight years, Mad Men really encaptured a lot of different raging themes in the 1960s, never ceasing to win over complete fan and viewer attention with most of its plotlines. While the television drama series created by Matthew Weiner never failed to deliver, most of its scenes were curated specifically for a reason.

Of course, there were quite a few gut-wrenching scenes in it as well, ones that left viewers wondering why what happened happened. One of these scenes included the distressing one where Christina Hendricks’ beloved character makes a rather severe decision to sleep with a client to win over a crucial contract. But Weiner has a real reason behind making the actress pull it off.

Mad Men is one of the most critically revered American period drama television series of the 21st century. Created by Matthew Weiner, the show captivated audiences with its stylish depiction of 1960s America, especially the advertising world, with complex characters and high-stakes risks. While there is much to admire about the show, there is one thing that surprised fans, which ultimately ended up being the biggest gamble Weiner ever made.

Mad Men was a loved show among fans and one aspect that drew them to the series was the near-accurate portrayal of the ’60s. The Jon Hamm series not only covered the small details of the time but also often delved into the politics of the period. During the sixth season portraying the year 1968, creator Matthew Weiner made sure to include many references from the country’s political history.

When asked about the historical references in Mad Men Season 6, Weiner shared that he wanted to address these issues primarily because of the political landscape of the country during the time of the airing of the series. The political events of 1968 are accurately reflected in the series, where the characters struggle to adjust to the changing office dynamics.

Mad Men is one of the most essential works of period drama created in recent history. Influenced by the storytelling format of The Sopranos, the show bears all the markers of a classic and is often credited with launching the second Golden Age of television. However, the ’60s era drama refuses to be defined by its central theme and delves further than the cutthroat world of the ad industry.
Mad Men stands out as a surprise to the fans and critics alike for its inherent ability to depict history and historical events by weaving it into the everyday lives of the show’s characters.

Moana may have taken on the ocean virtually alone in “Moana” — at least, until she dragged Maui along — but that isn’t the case in Disney’s latest sequel.
In “Moana 2,” our wayfinding hero sets out on another voyage. This time, she’s called upon by the ancestors to locate an island hidden by a god, specifically with the intent to cut off other island peoples from each other. The mission is decidedly more dangerous than in the first film, and that means she needs a crew.
Here’s who’s on that crew, and where you might recognize everyone’s voices from in our complete “Moana 2” cast and character guide now that the film is streaming on Disney+.

For decades, young adult television focused on coming-of-age stories — characters figuring out who they are through romance, friendships, and personal growth.
We had the hopeful struggles of Felicity Porter (Felicity) and the aspirational drama of Gossip Girl, where ambition was wrapped in designer clothes and witty banter. But things have changed.
Today’s young adults on TV aren’t just dreaming — they’re fighting, hustling, and sometimes clawing their way to the top. Shows like Industry, Euphoria, and The Bold Type don’t just show ambition — they make it a survival game.

Mad Men's visual style and pithy elevator-pitch premise (i.e. ad agencies in the 60s) may not seem unique. But, lovers of the AMC series know that what makes the show special is much more complicated than just time and place. Beneath the incredible costuming and manicured sets is a writhing bed of complexity and intrigue, which is barely smothered by the prim and proper artifice of the time. Masculinity, loneliness, social mobility and identity are all at the core of Mad Men, which ran for seven seasons on AMC.

Jon Hamm Hazing Controversy (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Jon Hamm built his reputation as the smooth-talking yet deeply troubled Don Draper in Mad Men. But long before he became Hollywood’s leading man, his past carried a scandal that would later haunt him. In 2015, just as Mad Men was airing its final season, a dark chapter from his college days resurfaced – a violent fraternity hazing at the University of Texas in 1990.
Court and school records revealed Hamm’s involvement in a brutal initiation ritual as a Sigma Nu fraternity member. The victim, Mark Allen Sanders, claimed he was “severely beaten, dragged with a hammer, and had his pants lit on fire.” He alleged that Hamm participated “till the very end.”
According to the lawsuit, pledges had to memorize names assigned to fraternity members, including Hamm’s, which reportedly included “Young Bobby,” “Mc Hammer,” and “Ut Football Punching Bag.” When Sanders failed,...

Networks pass on shows that go on to become huge hits all the time. HBO, for example, has a pretty bad track record with this sort of thing; over the years, they've famously passed on enormous projects like "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad" (both of which ultimately put AMC on the prestige TV map) and, more recently, they said no to "Yellowstone," which became one of the biggest Paramount shows of all time. Apparently, they also said no to "Yellowjackets," which eventually found a home on Showtime ... but according to showrunners and creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson (who are also married), the premium network had one very specific reason when they said no to "Yellowjackets."
In a 2022 interview with Deadline, Lyle told writer Lynette Rice that the pitching process was grueling and they did get significant offers as a result — but HBO was blunt about why they passed. As...

Can Apple TV+'s Severance or HBO's The Last of Us win Best Drama Series? For most of Emmy history, the answer to that question would be no. That's because they're science-fiction shows, which have historically been under-appreciated by voters and thus underrepresented at the Emmys. Only one sci-fi show has ever won Best Drama Series: Lost in 2005. That was 20 years ago, but the TV Academy has changed drastically in the intervening years.
Some of the most beloved shows in TV history are sci-fi or fantasy, including Star Trek and Doctor Who that have been around for almost as long as TV has existed. But Emmy winners for drama series usually follow real-world professionals like doctors, lawyers, and police officers. Even as those procedural genres started falling out of fashion in the 21st century, the subjects that replaced them were still couched in reality: politics (The West Wing), organized crime,...

David Chase became one of the most influential people in TV after creating the crime drama series The Sopranos. Centered on the Italian mafia in North Jersey and its boss Tony Soprano, the show broke the standards of network TV at the time and paved the way for auteur-driven TV shows like Breaking Bad and Mad Men.
Chase was known to be eccentric to the levels of his lead star Tony Soprano. The writer was reportedly unhappy with the confines of network TV and was under constant pressure to make The Sopranos great. This quest for greatness reportedly led to him firing one of his proteges an hour after getting an Emmy nomination.

Though he had given a gazillion epic performances in numerous acting projects throughout his star-studded career, perfectly putting his acting chops out on display, perhaps none was as iconic as the late legendary James Gandolfini’s unparalleled portrayal of the Italian-American mafia head from New Jersey, Tony Soprano in The Sopranos.

He’s visited by his daughter, Melissa Moore (played by B Positive’s Annaleigh Ashford) — but the meeting doesn’t exactly radiate with familial love.

Michael Imperioli, alongside James Gandolfini, is one of the biggest stars to have come out of The Sopranos. James Gandolfini, alongside the rich cast of actors who grew famous due to The Sopranos, were not as huge stars before the show began.
