The segment "Upper East Side" was to have been directed by Anthony Minghella, who died shortly before its filming. Minghella asked Shekhar Kapur to replace him in their last conversation. After Minghella's death, Kapur wrote in his blog, "I will direct the film now, with Anthony in my heart and in presence of his soul." This movie is dedicated to Minghella at the beginning of the closing credits.

Natalie Portman's character, while discussing the rules of kosher, states she cannot eat "nothing that's not blessed by a rabbi." This is a common error - the production of kosher food is overseen by a rabbi, but the final products are not blessed.
When the title was shown at Toronto Film Festival it included two additional segments These Vagabond Shoes (2009) and Apocrypha (2009), these were removed for the wide release but are included in the DVD extras.
