  • Of Burbank Films Australia's output Rob Roy is up there among the better entries. It is not as good as Wind in the Willows, Peter Pan and Hunchback of Notre Dame, but is far more watchable than Don Quixote, The Odyssey and Prisoner of Zenda. The animation quality is not what I call perfect, some of the character designs are on the crude side and the colours could have done with more sharpness, however the backgrounds are not bad at all with some good detail. Rob Roy also could have done with more moments where it didn't feel as rushed as it did. Problems aside, the music is rousing and memorable, the writing is simple and funny without being forced or childish and the story on the whole is compelling with good morals and even a nice reference to Christianity. The characters engage, while the voice work is solid enough. All in all, very good if not entirely without foibles. 8/10 Bethany Cox
