Exclusive: BAFTA-winner Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education), coming off a lauded turn in HBO’s The White Lotus S3, is set to star opposite Oscar winner Angelina Jolie in the Marc Forster feature adaptation of Anxious People, the Black Bear and Hope Studios project we told you about coming into the Cannes market.

A buzzy project just got buzzier. The synopsis reads: “The day before Christmas Eve, investment banker Zara (Jolie) begrudgingly finds herself mingling with a group of strangers at an open house. When a reluctant bank robber, Grace (Wood), inadvertently takes the group hostage, chaos and oversharing ensues, secrets are revealed and literally nothing goes according to plan. A film about a crime that never took place, a would-be bank robber who disappears into thin air, and eight extremely anxious strangers who find they have more in common than they ever imagined.”

Perhaps among the summer's riskiest films, F1: The Movie will determine whether there's a market for mega-budget, star-driven tent poles that are not based on prior intellectual property. Starring Brad Pitt and directed by Top Gun: Maverick's Joseph Kosinski, the movie cost a reported $300 million to produce, and marks Pitt's biggest project in over a decade. He last headlined a movie this big back in 2013, and it was just as risky then. The movie in question, World War Z, was produced at a time when projects involving zombies were generating huge levels of interest; this was in the aftermath of The Walking Dead. World War Z is now making an impression on the streaming charts, as fans get ready for F1 later this summer.

According to FlixPatrol, the epic action thriller claimed the fourth spot on Paramount+ charts on May 13, earning a total of 120 points for the day.

The 49-year-old Oscar-winning actress made her way out of her car as she arrived at Cara restaurant for lunch meeting on Monday afternoon (May 12) in Los Angeles.

For her lunch outing, Angelina went business chic in a gray sweater and black maxi-skirt paired with cream-colored flats and sunglasses.

Hours earlier, it was announced that Angelina will be making an appearance at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival where she will have a very special role!

Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt has made a career for himself with various blockbuster action movies throughout the decades. Be it the cult classic Fight Club or more recent Bullet Train, the Oscar-winner has made his mark in cinema history throughout the years.

Warner Bros’ period horror movie Sinners had a great Monday earning $7.8M. That’s the second-best Monday ever for a R-rated horror movie after 2017’s It which did $8.76M, and it’s the third best Monday overall for a horror film after the PG-13 A Quiet Place Part II‘s Memorial Day ($9.5M) and It.

Sinners outpegged World War Z‘s Monday which did $7.6M. Sinners‘ Monday was even higher than that of Warner Bros’ first Monday for its fall blockbuster Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, a PG-13 title, which grossed $6.2M after a massive $111M opening.

Running cume for Sinners is now $55.8M, while the global take is $75.5M.

With discount Tuesday today, expect business to spike for the Ryan Coogler directed, Michael B. Jordan vampire title: It jumped 31% on its Tuesday over its Monday to $11.4M, while Us jumped 33% on its first Tuesday to $7.96M, while Get Out was up +20% to a near $5M.

Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later, starring Cillian Murphy, changed the zombie/horror genre when it was first released back in 2002. As well as making a star out of the Irish actor, 28 Days Later also gave fans nightmares for years by introducing fast zombies (known as "Rage Zombies" in the film). For decades, the genre had seen humanity plagued by undead creatures that walked slower than your grandma. But Alex Garland, who wrote the screenplay for 28 Days Later, was frustrated with that convention, and the inspiration behind the movie's iconic sprinting zombies came from a very nerdy place.

During a recent interview with GQ to break down his incredibly impressive filmography, Alex Garland reflected on the creation of 28 Days Later's rage zombies. As well as being a screenwriter, director, and a novelist, Garland is also a very keen gamer, having lent his authorial skills to Dmc: Devil May Cry.

Few directors working today can rival Ryan Coogler in terms of sheer impact. Coogler helped turn Marvel's "Black Panther" into a generationally important hit, one that transcended the superhero genre to become a defining blockbuster for the ages. He also successfully revived the "Rocky" franchise with "Creed." But Coogler, reteaming with actor Michael B. Jordan, is finally returning to the realm of original cinema with "Sinners." It's a horror movie, and the genre is hot right now, but it's also very expensive. Can Coogler's big-budget vampire flick become a big enough hit to justify its cost? That's the question.

As it stands, "Sinners" is looking at a domestic opening weekend in the $30 to $40 million range, per Box Office Theory. That number is right in line with earlier tracking, which had the movie making $40 million in its debut. For most horror movies, that would be stellar news. This is, however, a unique case.

Keanu Reeves is one of the most beloved action stars of our time, but even he isn’t immune to box office flops. The same can be said for his Matrix franchise, which, despite its legacy and fan base, gave us one of the most disappointing films that tarnished the legacy of the franchise for good.

Of course, we are talking about The Matrix Resurrections, a sequel that spanned decades and ended up bombing at the box office. Given the film’s critical and commercial performance, one would have thought that Warner Bros. would not make the same mistake again. However, as was recently revealed, a new Matrix film is in the works.

It's been over a year since Warner Bros. made it official that The Matrix 5 was in development. However, we know that some projects can take years and sometimes decades to come to life, so the silence after the announcement pointed to a lengthy process. This week, however, Warner Bros. CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy spoke to Deadline and provided an important update on the fifth installment of the franchise: director and scribe Drew Goddard is already writing a script.

Goddard has been a prolific contributor to both the sci-fi and action genres in Hollywood over the years. The Oscar nominee wrote the scripts of popular titles like The Martian, Cloverfield and World War Z. In the TV world, Goddard created the Daredevil series for Netflix and established the tone that set up the Disney+ revival Daredevil: Born Again. Goddard also penned several episodes from the hit show Lost.

Laurence Fishburne is revealing why he did not return as Morpheus for “The Matrix Resurrections,” and it turns out, it wasn’t Fishburne’s decision to be excluded from the 2021 franchise installment.

Fishburne said during “The View” (via THR) that he was turned away from the project. Fishburne did not disclose which team member disagreed with his casting. Lana Wachowski solo directed the fourth film, which was a Warner Bros. release. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss were both back as franchise protagonists Neo and Trinity, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II took over as a different iteration of Morpheus, the character originated by Fishburne in 1999.

With each “Mission: Impossible” movie, Tom Cruise keeps finding novel ways to almost die on screen.

As Ethan Hunt, he’s clung from trains, planes and the side of the Burj Khalifa, while engaging in one “can you top this” stunt after another. So it’s no surprise that “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” finds Cruise risking it all once again. This time he’s hanging on for dear life from the wing of a airborne biplane as it flies upside down in new footage that Paramount Pictures debuted at CinemaCon on Thursday.

And he’s convinced the U.S. navy to go the distance as he races to save the world. “You gave him an aircraft carrier?” one shadowy official asks in disbelief, at one point in the new trailer. Cruise is later seen vaulting from the ship’s deck into the ocean.

But this is what Hunt was born to do.

A follow-up to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is being assembled, with David Fincher, not Tarantino, in the director’s chair. It also has Brad Pitt and possibly Leonardo DiCaprio circling to reprise their popular and award-winning roles.

Tarantino wrote the script for the feature project, which is set up at Netflix and which could go before cameras by late summer, according to one source.

And while it is April 1, this news is not an April Fool’s joke. It is also ostensibly not a sequel to Once Upon a Time but a “derivative” that takes inspiration from it. The Playlist first reported on the film.

Since the Golden Age of Hollywood, the horror genre has given audiences an assortment of great scary movies, from Psycho and Dracula to Hellraiser and Halloween. Throughout that time, the genre has built up a number of iconic careers, with the likes of Robert Englund and Jamie Lee Curtis becoming household names in cinema. However, some of the best horror movies make great use of stars known for other genres, such as action, science fiction and comedy.

Scary movies have proven some of Hollywood's best stars every bit as versatile as their reputations suggest, turning action heroes into killers and child actors into horror icons. Seeing actors go against type often gives them some of their most memorable roles and best-remembered films, and some are great examples of this. Ranging from haunted house thrillers to slashers, these films proved their stars were more than their best-known roles.

David Fincher has worked with Brad Pitt on three films: Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. According to WorldofReel, the pair are looking to reunite on a new Netflix movie which could even be the director’s next project.

Take all of this with a grain of salt for now, but the report states that the project will be a sequel to a movie Fincher didn’t direct. Interesting. I wonder if this could be a resurrected version of the World War Z sequel, which Fincher was once slated to direct before it fell apart. Either way, Fincher and Pitt have done good work together, and it would be a treat to see them collaborate once again.

Zombie movies have always been a staple in the horror and adventure genre, from the recently released campy Lisa Frankenstein to the thrilling blockbuster World War Z. Around the world, zombie films have proven to be a hit, as seen in the Korean cinema industry, which is experiencing a zombie resurgence. Paramount Pictures’ action horror World War Z will be heading to a brand-new streaming home. The 2013 movie is based on Max Brooks’ best-selling 2006 apocalyptic novel of the same name.

Beginning on March 1, World War Z will officially be available to stream for free on Tubi. A statement from the production partners behind the scrapped musical cited the recent allegations of sexual misconduct brought against the author. Throughout the decades, there have been many interpretations of the subject, as the idea of a slowly moving, unintelligent monster doesn't terrify once you become comfortable with the premise, with movies like Zombieland aiming at these tropes. This has led to a diversification of how one can define a zombie and an increased focus on how they affect humanity, with The Walking Dead and World War Z being key examples.

David Fincher, you know, the guy who gave us the dark, twisted world of Se7en? Well, turns out, he nearly brought his signature style to Hogwarts. And we’re not talking about a slightly darker Harry Potter flick—we’re talking full-on, don’t go in the Forbidden Forest creepy.

In a recent chat with Variety, Fincher spilled the tea on his near-miss with the Harry Potter franchise. Apparently, Warner Bros. asked him how he would handle the world of magic, and his response? “I just don’t want to do the clean Hollywood version of it. I want to do something that looks a lot more like Withnail and I, and I want it to be kind of creepy.” Now, Withnail and I is a cult-classic black comedy, dripping with offbeat charm and a touch of madness.

The wizarding world of Harry Potter could have looked a bit more like “Se7en” if a certain meeting had played out differently.

In a new interview with Variety, David Fincher recalled taking a meeting with Warner Bros. about directing a film in the “Harry Potter” franchise. The director explained that his vision for the series would have leaned into the darker elements of J.K. Rowling’s books.

“I was asked to come in and talk to them about how I would do ‘Harry Potter,’” Fincher said. “I remember saying, ‘I just don’t want to do the clean Hollywood version of it. I want to do something that looks a lot more like ‘Withnail and I,’ and I want it to be kind of creepy.’”

The 28 Days Later franchise is returning soon with a third installment, 28 Years Later. Although it's not the first franchise to exhibit the kinetic horror of a fast zombie, it was certainly the most effective portrayal of a fast zombie in Hollywood.

In 2003, a movie arrived that was nothing short of revolutionary for the horror world. With its powerful blend of social commentary and stark terror, Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later turned the zombie subgenre on its head, captivating audiences and stoking controversy about the very definition of "zombie". Its influence continues to spread, and its second sequel, 28 Years Later, is slated for 2025. So why is the groundbreaking original movie so impossible to find?

The answer is complicated. There is a reason why 28 Days Later is unavailable to stream, and a separate reason why Blu-rays of the beloved movie command a hefty price on eBay. With 28 Years Later on the horizon and the rights to the original film changing hands, fans have reason to hope that Danny Boyle's masterpiece will soon return to circulation. In the meantime, the puzzle of its obscurity needs to be picked apart.

28 Years Later seemed like a pipe dream fans thought would never come true, but now it’s finally happening. After decades of being misled by fake YouTube trailers, the wait is over. 28 Days Later stands out as one of the most influential zombie movies for millennials, introducing feral and speedy zombies to the genre. If you love The Last of Us, Train to Busan, [Rec], Quarantine, or World War Z, this film was a key influence. It’s also a zombie movie that creates a strong emotional attachment to its characters. I remember watching the first movie in 2003, and it fascinated me because British films often feature casting styles distinct from Hollywood’s. This movie launched the careers of Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris. When they were cast, they looked like ordinary people you might see on the streets, not the Barbie-and-Ken types often seen in Hollywood productions.

Horror has been one of the most consistent money makers for Hollywood pretty much ever since movies became a popular form of entertainment for the masses. Even dating back to the days of "Nosferatu" and the early Universal Monsters films, it's a genre that delivers consistently yet, very frequently, gets very little respect. Even so, studios will continue going back to this well because when a horror movie breaks through with audiences, it can mean big money.

There have been plenty of blockbuster horror movies throughout history, from director William Friedkin's Oscar-winning, groundbreaking "The Exorcist" to more recent success stories like "Alien: Romulus." It's a never ending well that can be tapped over and over again when all else fails. But there is one that stands tall above the rest to hold the distinction as the highest-grossing horror movie in the history of the box office.

The highly anticipated and long-awaited 3rd film in the 28 Days Later series debuts next summer.

Opening in cinemas on June 20, 2025 is 28 Years Later and Sony Pictures has dropped the first poster for the film starring Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell. The film is directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland.

Both 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later were box office successes. Danny Boyle’s 2002 sleeper hit grossed $64,232,714 worldwide. It starred Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Christopher Eccleston, Megan Burns, and Brendan Gleeson. The “Rage Virus” origin story made Bravo’s 100th spot on their list of ‘The 100 Scariest Movie Moments’ in a four-episode 2004 television series.

While slated as the sequel to Brad Pitt's World War Z, World War Z 2 was never fully realized. After years of waiting, it was officially canceled in 2019, leaving the franchise buried. The cancelation was a surprise, considering that the original had become the highest-grossing zombie movie of all time domestically with its $202 million take at the box office. It left Pitt to move on to other projects, including Bullet Train, Babylon, The Lost City, and many other movies he produced.

Pitt may have moved on with ease, but the mystery behind World War Z 2's cancelation remains. With such a highly successful predecessor, it is rare for a sequel to be canceled so abruptly. Not much is known about the movie, but what is publically available is certainly worth consideration.

Zombies have come a long way since George A. Romero, who is widely considered the "godfather of the genre," thrilled and terrified audiences with his mindless, staggering walking undead who were hungry for human brains. The ever-evolving zombie has changed in the 55 years since his seminal 1968 movie Night of the Living Dead. Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End is the latest film to take advantage of the changes made by notable 21st-century offerings like television's The Walking Dead, Danny Boyle's revolutionary 28 Days Later, and David Fincher's more recent World War Z starring Brad Pitt, and South Korea's marvelous entry Train to Busan.

Pierfrancesco Favino, who plays Maria Callas’ protective butler in Pablo Larraín’s “Maria,” doesn’t back down from a fight, on-screen or in life.

At last year’s Venice Film Festival, the Rome native erupted with the kind of volcanic indignation that Callas was known for, furious that American actors like “House of Gucci” and “Ferrari” star Adam Driver kept getting cast as iconic Italians. Those parts should have gone to Italian actors, Favino argued at a press conference — though he was quick to add he had nothing against Driver.

With “Maria,” Favino gets the kind of quietly scene-stealing role that could show Hollywood what it’s been missing. In the meditative, slightly surreal drama, he plays Ferruccio, a loyal helpmate who caters to Callas by moving her grand piano around the apartment to whatever window she thinks has the best light that day, despite suffering from a bad back.

Zombies have had a diverse array of representation across the history of movies and television. Their portrayal can sink into the terrifying such as in the movies World War Z or Train to Busan. Zombies have also been popularized recently by the long-running series The Walking Dead, which has also had multiple spinoff. Though deemed "the Infected," HBO's acclaimed series The Last of Us portrayed zombies in a pandemic-esque format, warning of a biohazardous disease that affects those bitten by infected humans.

In stark contrast to these portrayals, a number of films feature much more comedic takes on zombies. This includes the hyper-violent yet darkly comedic Edgar Wright movie Shaun of the Dead as well as movies like Zombieland or Warm Bodies. Even the vampire television comedy series What We Do in the Shadows has had its own humorous take on zombies, including them among the supernatural beings in the series.

Remember that sudden explosion of zombie media that was sparked by the success of AMC’s The Walking Dead back in 2010? While the popular opinion these days is that the oversaturation of zombie stories ended up taking all the bite out of the genre, I actually think that this period offered up a bunch of truly interesting (and often deliciously meta) takes on a familiar premise – you just had to know how to find them among the cheap cash-grabs and knock-offs.

One such gem happened to be Manel Loureiro’s Apocalypse Z, a Spanish blog about a crafty everyman protagonist attempting to survive a more realistic take on the zombie apocalypse. Over time, the blog became so popular that Loureiro ended up publishing the ensuing saga as a trilogy of novels following Francisco and his cat throughout their journey across a zombie-infected Europe.
