  • Crime certainly doesn't pay in Burning Mussolini. The complete opposite of most Hollywood films where complex bank heists go smoothly without a glitch, Burning Mussolini is Murphy's Law at an extreme. Pretty much everything that can go wrong does.

The film is very funny at times, I actually laughed out loud during the cat scene. Great casting, solid acting by all the leads. David Zayas, who plays Angel on the hit series Dexter, is fantastic. Funny and charming yet scary as hell. It's nice to see him in a juicier role. Peter Outerbridge is very funny as Detective Johnson. Both Outerbridge and Pla play very different roles from their characters on the Canadian series ReGenesis. The actual drug ripoff is very well done, things spiral out of control over seemingly nothing. Seems like real life criminals screwing up.

Good story from start to finish, kept my attention the whole way through. Very good first work for Pla both as writer and director.
