Rapper Nas is getting the biopic treatment in “Street Dreams,” a potential new drama series just ordered to pilot at Bet. “Street Dreams” will trace the rise of Nas as a young man growing up in 1990s New York, and his transformation from a young man in the Queensbridge projects to drug dealer to famous rapper. Nas released his first album, “Illmatic,” in 1994 and has released eight albums total, with more than 25 million copies sold worldwide. The rapper was already the subject of a 2014 documentary film, “Nas: Time Is Illmatic,” which chronicled the circumstances leading up to the...

Sports. Poker. Paintballing. BBQs. These are just a few of the many ways that man has looked within to seek out an emotional connection with his fellow man. But nothing has done as much for male bonding as Capcom’s Street Fighter series.
Through a somewhat serendipitous loop of art imitating life imitating art, Capcom’s seminal fighter has been uniting men from a kaleidoscope of races and backgrounds to meet up and duke it out in various locations around the world for over two decades. Countless sequels and spinoffs into puzzles, manga, and two underwhelming movies had all arguably played a part in the oversaturation and eventual fatigue the series went through. A sobering experience that was far away from the influence the game enjoyed at the heights of its popularity.

Jonathan Levine will direct a film version of Brooklyn Castle.
The 50/50 director has signed on to adapt Katie Dellamaggiore's acclaimed 2012 documentary for Sony Pictures, reports Deadline.
Brooklyn Castle centres around the young students of New York school I.S. 318.
Despite being located in a desperately impoverished neighbourhood, the institution has consistently delivered national chess champions.
Levine will also be reteaming with 50/50's Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt for a Christmas comedy film.
He is working on Street Dreams - a television series about the life of Nas - and Bad Romance with Channing Tatum.
Scott Rudin Productions' Scott Rudin and Eli Bush, and Point Grey's Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver are producing the film, alongside two other projects.
These are Console Wars - which charts the rivalry between Nintendo and Sega in the 1990s - and a project from the Mail Order Comedy troupe.

Jonathan Levine is spending February lining up project after project. This summer, he's reteaming with his "50/50" stars Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to shoot a Christmas comedy, he's got a TV series based on the life of Nas called "Street Dreams" cooking, and he's also in the mix to direct Marvel's "Doctor Strange." (And don't forget he's also got "Bad Romance" with Channing Tatum in there as well). And yet another project has crossed Levine's desk which he'll be taking on. Deadline reports that Levine will turn Katie Dellamaggiore's winning 2012 documentary "Brooklyn Castle" (our review) into a feature film. And it's not hard to see the cinema in the story. The doc follows a handful of kids of I.S. 318 in Brooklyn, who are part of one of the best chess programs in the country, with the school delivering championship after championship. It's the major silver lining for the students,...

Xbox Entertainment Studios has announced that it is developing a television series based loosely on the life of the rapper Nas. The series, currently titled Street Dreams, will be set during the 1990s, in Long Island’s Queensbridge housing complex, where the Nas grew up, with Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies, The Wackness) serving as the project's writer and director, and Nas himself contributing to the scripting of the series, as well as contributing music to its soundtrack. Content is king, as the saying goes, and Microsoft's Xbox Entertainment Studios wants to claim its piece of that pie. Last year, the studio announced several Xbox-exclusive...

Nas is going to Xbox. With the impending 20th anniversary of Illmatic, the album that many hail as his greatest, Deadline reports that Nas has signed a deal with Xbox Entertainment Studios to create and produce an original, half-hour series based on his life as an up and coming hip-hop artist in the '90s, which many refer to as "The Golden Age of Hip-Hop." The show, titled "Street Dreams," is being written and directed by Jonathan Levine ("All the Boys Love Mandy Lane," "The Wackness"), who recently signed on to create a Christmas-themed film with his "50/50" stars Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Levine also grew up in New York City in the '90s, giving the show a bevy of situations to choose from. The show is centered around the Queensbridge Housing Project where Nas grew up, and deals with hip-hop, family and dealing with the ups and downs of the rap game.

Deadline reports that Nas is developing a half-hour series for Xbox. Entitled Street Dreams, which may or may not be an intentional pun on sweet dreams, the semi-autobiographical show will focus on a young rapper in the 1990s. The show will be set in the Queensbridge housing project, which is where Nas grew up. Jonathan Levine, whose 2008 film The Wackness was a semi-autobiographical account of his own time growing up in New York City in the '90s, is attached to write and direct. Nas will be involved in the writing, the music, and providing cred for the video game system show.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Illmatic, the debut LP of rapper Nas and one of the most influential hip-hop albums of all time. To help commemorate the album, Xbox Studios is turning to production company Electric City and writer/director Jonathan Levine for Street Dreams, a TV-length series inspired by Nas' early life. Nas grew up in New York City's Queensbridge neighborhood, long known as a breeding ground for hip-hop and rap talent. Street Dreams will enter that neighborhood in the early 90s with a series of half-hour episodes. In order to best capture the look and feel of New York in the 90s, Xbox Studios is turning to a writer and director who grew up in that era: Jonathan Levine. Levine's film The Wackness was one of the first 90s period and won the Audience Award at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. Levine has since built an...

It seems we're only entering the streaming content arms race. With Netflix having planted the flag and Amazon Studios making a run for it, XBox Live Entertainment is adding to their own growing slate of projects with something they hope will connect with their button-smashing audience. They've wisely tapped Jonathan Levine to write and direct the hip-hop drama series "Street Dreams" (tip: get a new name). The half-hour show will be loosely based on the life of hip-hop legend Nas, and will take place in 1990s Queensbridge (where the rapper grew up), looking at the rap game (duh), family and life in general. It seems like they are still sorting out the exact details. Anyway, this is all a familiar milieu for Levine, whose NYC-set "The Wackness" oozed 1990s hip-hop from its pores and its soundtrack (which included "The World Is Yours" by Nas), so this seems right up his alley.

It’s just been announced that Jackass star Ryan Dunn has sadly passed away in a car accident.
Best known for his high-wire pranks and stunts in the hit series Jackass, actor, writer and performer Ryan Dunn has passed away, we’re sad to announce. Dunn died just nine days after his 34th birthday, and just one week after the UK DVD release of his latest feature, Jackass 3.5.
Dunn was reportedly killed when a car he was travelling in crashed in the West Goshen Township area of Pennsylvania. A passenger in the car was also killed. It hasn’t yet been confirmed who was driving at the time of the accident.
While Dunn had previously appeared in the low budget 1997 film Invader, it was the MTV series Jackass that propelled him and his co-stars to worldwide fame, and its mixture of dangerous practical jokes and stunts inspired a number of copycat TV shows.

Go ahead and cut an extra large slice of cake for Fabolous today, as not only has one of the hardest-working MCs in the game earned it, but it also happens to be his birthday. He has two younger brothers, Shane and Kane. Ryan, nicknamed "Shecky," discovered his father's old skateboard at the early age of 18 months, and taught himself to push it around using one knee, until he learned how to stand on it. The rest, as they say, is history. By the age of six, he was doing tricks and began practicing for up to twenty-two hours per week in his backyard. At the age of seven, he competed in and won his first competition. His father, at Ryan's request, convinced legendary skateboard champion Tony Hawk to attend Ryan's seventh birthday party! This was a pinnacle event for Ryan, one he credits for inspiring him to continue his focus on skateboarding.

A night of hard partying landed John Mayer in the deejay booth and pal Rob Dyrdek in the hospital ... or did it? The two began the night at Hollywood hot spot My House, where they were seen sharing Corzo tequila shots straight out of the bottle before Mayer launched into an impromptu show. The players: Director: Chris Zamoscianyk, Writers: Elisa Delson, Rob Dyrdek, Nino Scalia, Cast: Rob Dyrdek, Paul Rodriguez Jr., Ryan Sheckler, Compton Ass Terry, Ryan Dunn
Facts of interest: None.
The plot: A young skater heads to Tampa to compete in an amateur skating competition.
Our thoughts: Chris Zamoscianyk’s “Street Dreams” is certainly not the only skate movie out there, but the film still manages to be mildly entertaining, despite a rather predictable plot and overall bad acting. The flick’s target audience of young, passionate skaters may appreciate its thematic, but others may see it as a waste of time.

Rob Dyrdek is already a household name after starring in the hit MTV show Rob & Big and now he’s moved on to his first big solo project. Rob has written, produced, and is now starring in the film Street Dreams. The film’s message is to give the skateboarding community a better name. Rob is sick and tired of skaters getting treated like a nuisance, and has taken it upon himself to change that. What many don’t realize is that skateboarders are often harassed by police officers to stop, and there have even been instances of beatings. This...
