When I saw the trailer for this series I thought: 'Here we go, another 'light comedy' series from the BBC with Lenny Henry'. I remembered 'Chef', which never captured me. I might have been guilty of the business of writing off someone who still has something to offer. In a complete turnaround I have to say that I enjoyed this first episode.Lenny Henry is a very believable character here. I never once thought of Tiswaz, Trevor McDoughnut, OOOOOKAAAYYYY, or the Lenny Henry Show(these were good). As a co-writer he appears to done a good job and Iappreciated the ability to refrain from being 'too bloody clever' or embracing Will Self's world of decadent young adults as is the addiction today. If you watch Berry's Way don't expect to be laughing out loud every second. It's comedy drama in the best BBC tradition. It would have died on BBC2, so the powers-that-be wisely placed it on the first channel. It deserves it audience.
