According to the visual effects supervisor, Joss Whedon disliked Iron Man's "tinkerbell pose" when flying. So he insisted that in this movie, the suit be equipped with a jetpack. This would allow his hands (gauntlets) to be free, which, in turn, offered those great "cowboy" poses that were seen in the film.

(at around 25 mins) When Tony arrives at Stark Tower, he and Pepper share a bottle of champagne. In the shot where he says "Next building is going to say Potts on the tower", Tony's champagne glass is in his hand and there's no sign of another glass several inches either side. In the next shot, Pepper's glass is suddenly 2 inches away.
Part of the closing credits are seen amongst the equipment used by the main cast: Iron Man's armor, Captain America's shield, Thor's armour, Hawkeye's quiver, Black Widow's stingers, Dr Banner's glasses and Fury's gun.
The brief non-dialogue scene that follows the closing credits was only included in later US showings of the film, having actually not been shot until after the film's US premiere. International DVD/Blu-ray versions include the scene.
