  • Phineas and Ferb has to be the smartest and most adult show ever created for an under-12 audience. Seriously, what other show features songs that rhyme 'didactic' with 'anti-climactic', uses the Freudian model for the human mind as a key story device, tosses in movie references, artistic motifs and literary allusions obscure enough to challenge a film scholar, sneaks in a psychedelic drug trip or two thanks to some toxic moss, and then cuts away to its secondary plot arc in a secret world where everybody's pet is a government crime fighter? Did I mention that every song cleverly parodies a different genre, style, period or artist, or that each secondary crime fighting plot intrudes momentarily on the main story line at just the right spot in each episode to wreak the most havoc? Though the show's target audience likely catches little of this, they no doubt appreciate the creative richness that informs it all. And most importantly, the show's popularity proves that they find it all FUN.

Instead of dumbing down recycled versions of older entertainment forms, such as the sitcom, to make it 'age-appropriate' for pre-teens, the creative team behind P&F have created a true original, loaded with enough wit and charm to satisfy Noel Coward, and enough science fiction outrageousness to satisfy a Doctor Who fan. Every show carries the same upbeat message to seize every opportunity for adventure, because it might not come again, while never condescending to its viewers or getting preachy.

There is a lot of truly awful kids' programming out there. It's great to see something which genuinely transcends the perceived boundaries of what a kids' show should be and goes out and demonstrates what it CAN be.

I have to admit. When I first saw the premier of this show, I thought to myself, "great. Disney comes up with yet another stupid cartoon." Recently, however, I gave it another shot. And you know what? This is really good stuff. I mean, yeah, some people may write it off as stupid animation, but where else do you get a "Replacements/Kim Possible/Suite Life of Zach and Cody" all-in-one show? If you want to see a young teenager trying to win the attention of her crush, it's in there! If you want to see two boys making mischief and getting away with it, it's in there! And if you prefer secret-agent shows, it's got that too! Perry Platypus is very cleverly woven into the main plot. Some of the missions may seem ridiculous, but, after all, this is a cartoon!

The only reason I didn't give this a 10 out of 10 is based on a hopefully temporary thing, and that is the scheduling. Instead of doubling up episodes into a half-hour show, Disney leaves it as 15 minutes, which throws off all the other shows following. But other than that, this is a really okay show!
  • When I first heard about the show, my first thought was "Oh great, another Disney Channel show that will probably be as bad as Hannah Montana or Wizards of Waverly Place." I figured it wouldn't be good. It turned out that I was wrong....

I only had to watch one episode to make me think "Wow, I'm impressed. This is actually pretty good." It is cute, clever, and funny. If I had to choose between this show and the news, I'd watch this show. If I had to choose between Hannah Montana and the news, There is a 99% chance I'd watch the news. Thats how good of a Disney show it is.

I also noticed one thing in the show that I didn't notice in any other Disney Channel show. I have never heard ANY "hidden inappropriate lines" in any episode. It is a great show for any age, whether if your 1 or 101.

For those of you who haven't seen it and think its bad, watch it. You won't regret it.

I love this show. I thinks its one of the funniest things on TV. I love the humor. Its very well written. It reminds me a bit of Dave the Barbarian's humor. My favorite characters are Dr. Doofenshmirtz and Perry the Platapus.

I was watching this with my 4 and 7 year old kids and was cracking up. I laughed so hard tears ran down my face while my kids just though I was crazy. Don't get me wrong. Kids love this show too. I hope this show stays around for a long time.

I love it. Aren't you a little too old to be watching this show? Yes, Yes I am.
  • If you could distill out the clever irreverent wit and the "something for all ages" mix of gags and references from "Family Guy", "The Simpsons", "SpongeBob", and South Park"; and then jettison all the off-color, negative, and crude low-hanging fruit elements of those cartoons you would get something like The Disney Channel's "Phineas and Ferb" which premiered in August 2007.

The title characters, non-stop talker Phineas (Vincent Martella) and his usually silent brother Ferb (Thomas Sangster) are suburban stepbrothers trying to make the most of their summer vacation. This means constructing elaborate gadgets like a time machine and a roller- coaster, or making a feature film. They are usually assisted by an industrious troop of Camp Fire Girls (Fireside Girls) led by their neighbor Isabella (Alyson Stoner) who has a major crush on Phineas. The brothers are just trying to have a fun summer, they aren't trying to cause trouble or be cool, and they are at that age where boys are not even conscious of girls or of who is popular.

Typically their teenage sister Candace (Ashley Tisdale) gets reluctantly drawn into their projects as she strives to keep them from embarrassing her in front of her crush Jeremy (Mitchell Musso). Each storyline has her trying to "bust them" by phoning their mother about the latest home project, but by the time Mom gets home all evidence has conveniently vanished. Although there is a sibling rivalry the three obviously care about each other. Candace is the best part of the series and Tisdale does unexpectedly well supplying her voice; the part is very challenging, as the mercurial Candace requires a wide range of intonations and energy levels in her voice.

Although the series could get by just cutting between Candace and her brothers, it ups the energy level each episode with a "Kim Possible" type parallel story involving the family's pet platypus Perry (he's a semi-aquatic, egg-laying, mammal of action). Perry is a secret agent assigned to foil the plots of evil (but hopelessly inept) scientist Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz (co- creator Dan Povenmire).

The animation style is the same simplistic stuff (Phineas' head is a triangle) found in the other four cartoon series although like "SpongeBob" the occasional "real-life" photo is thrown into the mix.

For the benefit of boy viewers, a more serious drawing style is devoted to one of the minor characters, Dr. Doofenshmirtz's beautiful daughter Veronica (Olivia Olson). She is a goth version of Dr. Dome's daughter Lynx from DC's 1960's "Plastic Man" comics.

"Phineas and Ferb" might be the all-time best "compromise" cartoon; incorporating many subtle elements for adult viewers while relying on its absurdist humor and identification elements to hook both pre-teens and teens.

Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.
  • Exst many reasons to say that Phineas and Ferb is a great TV show, but only need two:

1- It isn't repetitive because there's no build up:

This show is not story driven, it's comedy driven. Because of that, it doesn't get repetitive because the focus is always the characters and the story takes a backseat. We don't go into an episode to see if Candace will succeed, we go to see how she will fail. We know that Perry's going to defeat Doofenshmirtz, so we want to see what's his new scheme is and how Perry's going to defeat him. It doesn't create expectations, so it doesn't bore us. A good example is the Roadrunner. We know that the Coyote will fail, but we still enjoy it immensely. We never expect the Coyote to win because we don't expect him to. Same with Phineas and Ferb, we know that Candace's going to fail, so we don't expect her to win. This, in turn, makes the show anything but repetitive, since the focus is always the intricate comedy.

    2- Good until the end:

Different from what a lot of people think, the quality the show only decreased slightly. When you think about it, no other cartoon has managed to stay so tight and consistent after seven years in the air. The comedy was still great, and even when they were going trough a lack of ideas, they refused to give up, which gave us great episodes even towards the very end. The decrease in quality was natural and inevitable, and it passed trough the harder phases a lot better than others shows in their seasonal rots. Heck, the two last episodes are considered one of the best of the entire show. This show avoided seasonal rot entirely.

So there it is. That's why we love Phineas and Ferb so much. It's a very consistent show that definitively left it's mark in the world of animation. I wouldn't be surprised if this show gets remembered as a classic in the near future. This a AWESOME SHOW!!! LONG LIVE TO PHINEAS AND FERB!!
  • Hands-down this is the best TV show ever, There is fun for the whole family and after watching for some time the characters will feel like a part of your own family. Highly recommended show, don't miss it!!!!!!!!
  • Warning: Spoilers
Phineas and Ferb is one of those shows that, even though its marketed to kids, it has pulled me into its charm and wit as well, much like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic or even Avatar: The Last Airbender.

One of my favorite episodes is the episode where Phineas and Ferb try to cure Isabella of her hiccups in a Halloween type fashion, accompanied by an excellent musical number.

I love all the main characters, Dr. Doofenshmirtz in particular. Shmirtz is a very funny, clumsy, and very well liked character. and I love an evil character who can be likable.

I also like, surprisingly, the episode where Ferb and Phineas get busted. In the end, it turns out some Inception crap is going on as Candace's dream is in fact within (the words of Dr. Doofenshmirtz: "PERRY THE PLATYPUS's") dream.
  • This show is original, has good songs, is funny and is memorable. Ferb is literally a god.
  • The adventures of two boys who make the most of every Summer day with impossible inventions and creations. Also, the ongoing saga of a platypus agent foiling the plans of an evil scientist.

The show is an extremely positive force of inspiration and making the most of life! It is entertaining for children and adults, and a pleasing experience.

However, I do not recommend binge watching this show. It was clearly made for old television (not streaming) format, and it can be very very VERY repetitive to try to watch it episode after episode.
  • It wasn't until the 2010s that we got into a Golden Age of animation. This is of course not to say that there weren't groundbreaking cartoons made in the 2000s, especially this one. I've seen nearly every episode of this show and it's worth checking out. The premise is pretty simple as every episode features Candace trying to bust her brothers Phineas and Ferb for creating some amazing invention. Their mother might be the only one in Danville who is unaware of what they do. Some episodes do in fact show she would be mad and punish them if she found out what they did.

There's also the subplot of their pet, Perry the Platypus trying to stop the evil Doctor Doofenschmirtz. This was one of the funniest cartoons ever made. Its biggest strength is probably how likeable the characters are. Candace is my favorite character if only because she fails at everything as I've always had a soft spot for characters that continually failed, like Charlie Brown or Team Rocket. It probably makes them more relatable. The animation is great and we all get really pleasant characters as few of them are genuinely evil.

It is in fact predictable, but at least there's different inventions every episode. Franchises like the "Transformers" movies are monotonous because their characters are so unappealing and you can even tell the actors aren't having fun with their roles. They acknowledge their formula many times and acknowledge other things in general. There's tons of great jokes and while not on the level as something like "The Amazing World Of Gumball", still a ton of fun to watch. I think I was introduced to this show by watching a YouTube clip. It's pretty reassuring knowing that every time a great animated Disney show ends, there's always another one still going on. ****
  • i was 6 When Phineas and Ferb came out i thought it was Brilliant all But now it just kinda sucked so bad because it's so boring as ever the Voice Acting was kinda good the songs are boring suckish and some of the jokes of the Characters are Annoying the storyline was uninteresting the episode plots are boring Dr. Doofinshmirtz is one of the lamest villains ever and. And did i also mention that every episode is the same plot over and over and over again?

and they say boring scientific stuff that kids don't understand

    also the plot: - -

P&F get an idea of something

    Candace tries to bust them

perry tries to beat doofenshmirtz who creates an *-inator* which always has a self destruct button

Isabella tries to have a chance with Phineas(never works sometimes)

    *annoying song starts*

Candace tries to bust them but doofs -inator zaps P&Fs invention and they get pie The end - -

and if its 104 days of summer vacation and now its like 7 seasons...like what(sometimes i would like to live there cuz it seems like its summer everyday)and even when its Christmas they try to squeeze it in like it wasn't winter

the only good character which i like is perry,he's awesome
  • I'm sorry to upset the fans of this show but I just don't really like this show. It's not that entertaining to me. I've seen a few episodes and I just don't really like this show. It's not really that interesting to me. However, it is better than Disney channel's other show called Fish Hooks & better than Nickelodeon's Fanboy & Chum Chum, Planet Sheen, Back at the Barnyard, T.U.F.F. Puppy & The Penguins of Madagascar. Of the few episodes I've seen of Phineas & Ferb. It is much better than those other crap shows that I listed. I've seen those other shows and they were not good. I'd choose Phineas & Ferb over those other shows any day.
  • "Phineas and Ferb" is by far one of the funniest shows to hit Disney Channel where I couldn't stop laughing after the first episode. It's not like other cartoons on Disney Channel such as "The Replacements", "Kim Possible", "The Emperor's New Groove", "The Proud Family", or any other cartoon where those shows can't even find a laugh.

The premise involves two stepbrothers with different backgrounds trying to make the best of their summer vacation. Phineas (voiced by Vincent Martella of Everybody Hates Chris) always has something on his mind where his wacky inventions and ideas also work; he's also a nice kid trying to make sure that everybody around him is happy. His stepbrother, Ferb, (voiced by Thomas Sangster) is from England where not only does he share the same ideas as Phineas, but he's very silent with the exception of having a couple of one liners towards the end of each segment. Each of the short segments (rounding to eleven minutes)always has the two brothers doing something new from making a beach, having a circus, inventing a big-ass roller coaster ride, recreating chariot races on the streets to making a toy factory. The subplots in each segment involve Candace (voiced by Ashley Tisdale of High School Musical fame), Phineas older sister and Ferb's stepsister, always wanting the boys in the act while their parents never make it on time to see the event while the kids pet platypus named Perry gets to be a secret agent when nobody's around going after a crazy doctor madman who barely resembles Roger Bart from "The Producers".

While the subplot of the platypus I could care less, I love watching "Phineas and Ferb" where it doesn't really bore me to death unlike both the animated shows and the live action versions made by Disney with their moral ethics.

    Nice cartoon!
  • I started watching this recently with the kids, and I think I get more out of it than they do. The visual ref to North by Northwest in "Bigfoot", Doofenschmirtz' awkward introduction of his new nemesis to Perry the Platipus, all the musical numbers (watchable on You Tube)...I no longer try to explain to my kids why it's funnier to me than it is to them. That said, they do enjoy it. Although I think they are humoring me.

Not to mention the vocal casting. Yes, it's THAT Richard O'Brien as Dad, with guest shots by Barry "Brad" Bostwick.

    Tisdale who?
  • Occasionally there comes along animation that strikes that delicate balance between being funny for the kids and being funny for the adults too. The last time I found such a series was Rocky and Bullwinkle. Phineas and Ferb while it fits nicely in the mainstream of Disney animation still has enough real humor that it isn't sappy like so many other Disney products tend to be. And unlike the "post modern" Rocky and Bullwinkle, which is filled with acid like social commentary this one is just as smooth and sweet as a baby's bottom.

I too was struck dumb when I learned "the" Richard O'Brian (of Rocky Horror fame) was doing voice work for this series, and again without the social commentary. Whoever is responsible at Disney for giving this project the go ahead should be praised (and given a raise to boot). Thank you Disney for this series it restores my confidence in you.
  • When I first heard about this series, I thought that it was going to be pretty bad. However, it ended being very good! I liked it a lot, it is possible the best animated series made by Disney since "Gargoyles". Created by Dan Povermire and Jeffrey Marsh (Who also give their voices to some of the characters) this show is funny, clever and original. At first, it seems very predictable (Almost all the episodes follow a very similar structure) However, the writers manage to keep this show fresh with a witty dialogue and a very interesting character development, not to mention the catchy songs, one of the best parts of it.

My favorite episode is "Dude, We're getting the Band Back Together" with Steve Zahn and Carlos Alazraqui as special guest stars. And my favorite character is Perry the Platypus.
  • When I first heard about Phineas and Ferb I wasn't quite sure what all the rave was about. Everyone kept on saying it was hilarious, original, and had great music. So I watched on of the episodes and I thought "eh... it's OK. I still like Pinky and the Brain better" but then later on went back to it and started the show from the beginning to the end... and wow. Phineas and Ferb is a great show.

The humor in Phineas and Ferb is good because it can be intelligent at times and doesn't rely on slapstick humor all the time. Like in one scene where a person is standing in the water, holding a globe in his hand, and a boat called "Nosebud" is rushing towards him at high speeds. The man quietly says "nosebud..." and then drops the globe. When I saw that scene I yelled "CITIZEN KANE?!?!". There are a lot of pop-culture references in Phineas and Ferb but it doesn't make them obvious. Instead of throwing the pop-culture references in your face like some other shows do.

The title characters Phineas and Ferb are stepbrothers. Phineas is the dorito head shaped kid, and Ferb is the tall silent one. The interesting thing is that Ferb never talks except for on rare occasions which makes him one of the best characters. For a character who rarely ever shows emotion in facial expressions he is actually one of the more expressive characters because when he does show expression you know it must be something important.

Phineas and Ferb can probably be easily recognized by the fact that it has a song in every episode. Now when most cartoons do this it usually ends up becoming annoying. Usually the songs are low quality and too similar to each other. HOWEVER Phineas and Ferb actually has good songs in it AND the songs are never the same. Each song covers a different genre/style of music so expect country, reggae, rap, electronic, blues, jazz, psychedelic, punk etc..

The plot follows a pretty repetitious pattern from episode to episode. Phineas and Ferb (if you didn't know) are pretty much what all little kids wanted to be. You know when you were a little kid and you dreamed about flying to moon, finding treasure, or building robots? Phineas and Ferb do that. Their plans are always vast and over-the-top. Such as completing a real scale replica of the Eiffel tower... in one afternoon. Candance is Phineas' older sister and Ferb's stepsister. She is constantly trying to prove to mom that Phineas and Ferb are always building things but the creations Phineas and Ferb create always magically disappear. And this is because of plot B. Plot B follows the adventures of Perry the Platypus (Phineas' pet). Perry is actually a secret agent who is constantly battling Dr. Doofenshmirtz. Their battle always ends up in somehow destroying Phineas and Ferb's devices/buildings/plans etc. in some way or another. The interesting thing is that Perry and Doof don't really hate each other. When they aren't fighting each other they actually just hang out. When Perry doesn't show up to thwart Doof's evil plans Doof is actually upset or when Doof replaces Perry with a new nemesis Perry becomes sad.

Overall a really great show. The first season is a little bit repetitious compared to the other seasons, however the other seasons usually have some episodes that break up the standard formula. Watch it.
  • It made pretty much the same thing over and over fun I recommend.
  • Warning: Spoilers
okay i just have to say this, at first the show was actually kinda funny, with good jokes, but then some idiot decides "hey lets have a big musical number in every single episode even though there is absolutely no reason for them ".i mean come on, as if that wasn't bad enough, the show isn't even funny enough to compensate for the musical numbers because apparently the people who write decided to concentrate on the songs instead of the jokes, even though the jokes are more important and all of the songs are ridiculously stupid.plus all the plots got dumb like building rockets or hats that make you sing good.the plots are predictable too because its basically just them making something something, and it either works right or goes wrong but they fix it and it goes right anyways. the only reason i gave it an okay review is because the first season was good before the singing started and frankly, thats the only season that should be watched
  • At a time when everyone from age two and up has a smart phone or tablet within arm's reach at all times, this series presents an important message in an entertaining way that children and their parents alike should head: go outside and play.

From the entertaining stories and catchy songs to the clever ways that the A and B stories tie together to eliminate the boys' daily inventions and foil Candace's crusade, this series is innocent entertainment at its best. And while unspoken, rather than being turned into a plot line or focus to be thrown in the viewer's face as is done with other shows today, I appreciate seeing the racial and social diversity of the characters on this series. In spite of race, religion, or customs, all are friends, willing to help each other on any task. I can think of no other cartoon where the main characters' parents are together as a result of divorce from previous marriages, made known subtly by their last names alone without the need to explain the details to a child. Children are often much smarter than cartoon creators give them credit for.

The series is a much watch for all.
  • Phineas and Ferb really is quite funny. It has that pointless style of comedy but for some reason it continues to be entertaining. I'm sure there will come a point when this show becomes totally irrelevant but for the moment it's still enjoyable to watch.

The creators have done a really good job at thinking of new ideas for the storyline. Incredibly each episode there is a new invention, a new problem to solve or just another reason to do something fun. Their initiative is very cute.

I'm sure the show will eventually come to an end in the next couple of years (they're bound to start running out of ideas and pointless yet catchy songs) but for the moment the show works. Also no this show is not like SpongeBob, this show has a level of intelligence, SpongeBob on the other hand seems to be created by some low IQ, pot smoking jug heads.
  • OK im going to start off by saying i never really liked this show in the first place. I thought in the beginning it wasn't bad it just wasn't my cup of tea but its not terrible and i actually thought some of the jokes were pretty good at points (especially in the very first episode). But now looking 4 years later after it's HUGE success... it's becoming TOO OVERRATED. And not only that it's losing it's touch it's not even that funny anymore half of the jokes have already been used in countless other episodes. And did i also mention that every episode is the same plot over and over and over again? Here's the plot Phineas and Ferb two lonely outcasts who make robotic contraptions meanwhile there pet platypus Perry is an undercover agent behind their backs and is fighting the EVIL Dr. Doofenschmirtz. And Phineas and Ferb's Bratty sister Candice tries to stop them and then in the end When Perry is fighitng Doofenschmirtz somehow manages to break the contraption Phineas and Ferb made and then Candice tries to show it to her Mom and sees nothing and then Perry comes back to them normal and Candice is grounded and everything is back to normal. It gets old really fast. But just because im going on topic of what's bad about the show there is somethings that are good about this show. For instance, Perry i just gotta admit having a Platypus as a Secret Agent fighting a silly evil doctor is pretty cool and i also liked how they got Vincent Martella to do Phineas his voice fits so perfectly with his role. So overall it was good in the beginning now turning into another Main Stream washout. If you would like to watch the show watch Seasons 1 and some of 2 not the others for reasons i said in this review. -AssLag
  • Phineas and ferb is one of those shows most 12-14 year olds watched. however its not a love-it-as-a-kid-hate-it-as-an-adult show, its a 2000's MASTERPEICE. I coud go on and on about how much I love this show but I would run out of space so go watch it yourself and be awed as this MASTERPEICE bedazzels you.
  • Yes! We all know Phineas and Ferb. We all know what it is about, the characters, the plot. So, what can we say that it hasn't been said, when, after 8 years, the show is finally coming to an end?

    Just one word: Thanks.

Phineas and Ferb is definitely the best Disney show of all time, at least since the Disney Channel era. Created by Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh, it's not only a clever animated sitcom, with lovely characters, catchy and very professional songs and well- written episodes, but it also has life lessons, important messages, a VERY smart humor, incredible parodies and an enviable character development. Oh, and some rocking guest stars too!

It has everything a show needs to leave a good and deep mark in all our hearts. Just two boys, one teenager, a mad doctor and a platypus did all this.

Even when this cartoon has a formula, it is also positive, why? Because it allows the scriptwriters to write and concentrate in more important things, like character development, dialogues, jokes, songs, etc.

When this show came out, in 2007, most of the shows treated their viewers like idiots. PnF not only didn't do the same thing, but also respected the younger characters and never portrayed them as fools. With this, Dan and Swampy respected the kids and teenagers who watched the series. But hey! Adults were also attracted to this animated show, and the reason is evident: a very good use of old and/or difficult words, awesome parodies and British humor. PnF it is possibly the only show 'for kids' that includes many references to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and having some of the actors of that movie participating.

And still today, after 8 years, more than 200 adventures, a movie, two crossovers and their last goodbye, it is still the best thing you can find on TV. Without a doubt, this show is gonna be in the Disney pantheon forever. An excellent show very appreciated in almost all the world, especially in the English-speaking countries, but sadly hated and forgotten in Latin America, where I live.

10 out of 10, and if you are a Phineas and Ferb fan, don't worry: the creators will return in 2017 with "Milo Murphy's Law" their new animated series. Stay tuned!
