  • Shirley MacLaine: Kicking Up Her Heels (1996)

    *** 1/2 (out of 4)

Jack Lemmon, Anthony Hopkins, Nicolas Cage, John Forsythe, A.C. Lyles, Robert Wise and Herbert Ross are just a few of the people interviewed in this documentary that takes a look at the career of Shirley MacLaine. The documentary also features the actress herself who takes us on a tour of her early life growing up in a small city where she fell in love with the movies. She talks about how she got into acting and then discusses some of her biggest roles, which included working with Martin & Lewis as well as the Rat Pack.

If you're a fan of MacLaine then you'll certainly enjoy hearing her talk about her career and the various roles she has played over the year. The documentary does a very good job at showing the various ups and downs in her career and the added interviews with those who worked with her are just wonderful. This is especially true with Jack Lemmon discussing working on THE APARTMENT.
  • I found this in a pretty interesting way, I was looking up Nicolas Cage movies I haven't seen and saw that he starred in this documentary. I have recently seen a couple of movies that had Shirley MacLaine starring in them, in fact these recent films I seen introduced me to her and Jack Lemmon and made me aware of both of them. From that comment you should be able to tell I saw The Apartment, and I also recently watched her in The Children's Hour. I've also heard about her role in Around The World In 80 Days and look forward to seeing it in my goal of watching every Oscar winner. But this was a good but basic documentary. I did find it interesting in how she lived her life. It seems she avoided a lot of the stress and drama of most stars. Pretty good if your a fan of Shirley MacLaine.
