It’s the eve of Halloween and what better way to celebrate than with an unboxing and review of the 2010 or 2011 (depending on sources) classic Monster Mutt!
Ryan and I came across this hidden gem in a bargain store bin last year and decided to film the unboxing so we could share the excitement with all of you. For whatever reason, the footage was left unused and forgotten…until now. If you’re not familiar with unboxing videos, basically someone films themselves opening an item and talks about it. They might do this with one hand so the camera shakes (see any Paul Greengrass movie) or they do it using what we in the business call a “Dutch tilt”, where the camera angle is deliberately slanted to one side, awesome right? Well, we did all of that.
First the trailer and synopsis for Monster Mutt:

With great pleasure we sat down recently with actor Lew Temple, who’s currently essaying the role of Axel on AMC’s "The Walking Dead," and what followed was a fascinating conversation with a true Southern gentleman.
Familiar to genre fans for his turns in a slew of horror projects (Trailer Park of Terror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, and Rob Zombie’s The Devil’s Rejects and Halloween redux, just to name a few), the prolific Temple has displayed his chops in dozens of non-genre films and series as well, including this year’s big-budget feature films Lawless and Unstoppable and the upcoming Gore Verbinski-directed flick The Lone Ranger (see exclusive stills of him in the latter below along with him in character as Axel).
Now the forty-five-year-old Louisiana native brings his talents back to the realm of horror with his third season addition to the hit series “The Walking Dead.

It’s been awhile since we reported on writer/director Jesse Dayton’s zombie feature Zombex, but that all changes today with a first look at the new one-sheet for the flick as well as word from star Lew Temple on the production.
“I star in it along with Malcolm McDowell and Sid Haig,” said Temple, who currently can be seen on Season Three of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” as "Axel" (look for an extensive interview with the actor coming soon), of Zombex.
“It’s about a conspiracy in which the government is using New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina as a test zone for post-traumatic stress medicines,” continued the actor, whose previous genre turns include Trailer Park of Terror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, and Rob Zombie’s The Devil’s Rejects and Halloween, among others.

Hollywood is crawling with bug-themed projects right now – a test reel for Edgar Wright’s superhero movie Ant-Man was recently released, and more details emerged on the Human Fly feature Deadline reported on last Wednesday. Based on some inside information from SlashFilm, the new developments on Human Fly are quite intriguing.
The two concepts are similar in that their subjects both occupy the Marvel comic book universe (Human Fly had a 19-issue run from 1977 to 1979), but unlike Ant-Man, the character Human Fly was based on a real-life masked daredevil who rivaled Evel Knievel in the 1970s. The Fly (Aka Rick Rojatt) made a living out of scaling buildings, riding atop airplanes, and other death-defying stunts supposedly made possible by a 60 percent reconstructed steel body, the result of a near-fatal car crash. Naturally, he and his stranger-than-fiction career – not his illustrated alter ego – will provide the basis for the film.

Let the pining begin as HBO teases us with new True Blood cast members - and a good nine months or so before we get to see the show. It appears that next season will be a howling one, with lots of new werewolves joining the pack. First up is Annie, the mother of the now-deceased pack leader, Marcus. Dale Dickey will play the role. She is most recognizable as Earl's mom on My Name is Earl, but has held roles genre flicks like Super 8, Trailer Park of Terror, and A Perfect Getaway. More spoilers can be found after the break. Another werewolf role still up for grabs is J.D., a fiftysomething alpha male who is suspected to be Alcide's father. Also joining the cast as a series regular is a new...

“The Wild Hunt” is a Canadian production from 2009, which having enjoyed a successful and award winning run at festivals now arrives on region 2 DVD. Marking the debut of writer director Alexandre Franchi, the film is set in the world of LARPing, or for the uninitiated (this reviewer included), Live Action Role Playing, which basically involves people dressing up as fantasy characters and running around in the woods with rubber weapons. Having been compared to “Lord of the Flies”, the film revolves around the premise of LARPers taking things too far, leading to violent and tragic consequences. The plot kicks off with a young guy called Erik Magnusson (Ricky Mabe, “Trailer Park of Terror”) falling out with his girlfriend Evelyn (Tiio Horn, “The Theatre Bizarre”) over her leaving for a weekend to join in a Larp game with his older brother Bjorn (Mark A. Krupa, “The Last Templar”). After sulking for a while,...

When my local neighborhood grocery store recently set out a dump bin overflowing with cheap, previously-viewed movies, I didn’t think too much about it. More often than not, all they’re peddling are cheesy, low-budget family flicks or mainstream movies everyone and their grandmother already owns. Imagine my surprise, then, when I stumbled upon used copies of “Command Performance”, “Trailer Park of Terror”, “Webs”, “War of the Worlds 2: The Next Wave”, and “Flu Birds” for next to nothing. My head nearly exploded from the sheer awesomeness of it all. Was this self-indulgent splurge a worthwhile investment? The full report resides below. Here they are, in no particular order: ——— Webs (2003)What happens when you let Richard Grieco and a group of bumbling electricians fiddle around with a minature nuclear reactor? You guessed it — they open a portal into an alternate dimension populated with bloody-thirsty man-spiders hellbent on murdering everyone on the planet.

- The Hero Business, because it’s hilarious.

What does drugs, Asian massage, deals with the devil, and deep fried jerky all have in common? Well that's an easy one, they're all at the Trailer Park Of Terror! Trailer Park Of Terror is an odd movie, based on a comic which is more then likely odder, but I haven't read it. It's a movie about a zombie trailer park, filled with gore, sex, and hit or miss humor. So why don't you sit down with me for a minute and we'll take a look inside. The…...

In May of 2007 (just prior to the nation’s economic collapse), this writer visited the set of the Bogner Entertainment and Trailer Park Partners production Trailer Park of Terror, a Southern-fried fright flick directed by country-music video director-turned feature filmmaker Steven Goldmann. Produced by Jonathan Bogner and Ralph Singleton (Pet Semetary) and based on the Imperium Comics of the same name, Trailer Park of Terror premiered the following year at Slamdance ’08, and was released to DVD that October via Summit Entertainment.
Starring Lew Temple and Priscilla Barnes (The Devil’s Rejects) and Nichole Hiltz, Duane Whitaker (Feast), Ed Corbin and Michelle Lee (among others), Trailer Park of Terror, regardless of its playfully sadistic EC Comics-vibe and inspired makeup designs by Todd Tucker, didn’t cause the waves its producers had predicted, and due to such, unfortunately derailed the planned feature franchise and television and comic book series. Harvey Lowry has come aboard to executive produce Humpty Dumpty 3D alongside Mark Ordesky and Suzanne de Passe. Lowry has an extensive background in special effects at Drac Studios. He's also been producing since 2006, overseeing projects like Night of the Demons , Trailer Park of Terror and the upcoming spoof Paranormal Whacktivity . David Ellis ( The Final Destination ) is still aboard to direct. It's likely a project he'll mull over once he has completed his Untitled Shark Thriller opening this fall. Given Lowry's affiliation with Drac, I think it might be safe to presume they'll be handling practical effects on the project. Humpty Dumpty 3D is the story of two backwood hicks, The Brakk Brothers, who capture an alien female scientist collecting plant samples in...

Word came yesterday that Vincenzo Natali (Splice) is attached to direct Play Dead, the eleventy-billionth permutation of the zombie subgenre. Here, the zombies will be football players who hope to win the high-school district championship, if only they can stop eating people long enough to play the game (it's based on a novel by Ryan Brown). It actually sounds decent.
Most zombie movies, however, are not. There have literally been hundreds of zombie movies made over the years, but most of them are ultra-low budget flicks that try to sneak themselves into your Netflix queue, or are seen by a handful of zombie enthusiasts fascinated with the combination. You can combine a zombie with almost anything (and I was surprised to find there isn't a Republican Zombie movie yet) and sometimes, you can make a compelling social commentary via these zombie films, but most of the time, they're unwatchable pieces of rotten cinematic flesh.

New trailer for a new zombie comedy! New!
The upcoming zombie comedy Aaah! Zombies!! is a new twist on the genre, with the movie taking the point-of-view of four friends — Matthew Davis (The Vampire Diaries, Blue Crush), Julianna Robinson, Betsy Beutler (Scrubs), and Michael Terry (Bones) — as they discover they have been inadvertently turned into zombies due to a toxic waste spill (weren't the 80's great?), only they are the only ones who can't see their zombification.
The movie premiered at the La ScreamFest in 2007 (Audience Award winner) under the title Wasting Away, but will finally get released under its new title on DVD September 28 by Level 33 Entertainment.
Colby French (Changeling, Heroes), Joel McCrary, and genre vet Tracey Walter (Trailer Park of Terror, Repo Man) also star in the movie written by newcomers Matthew Kohnen and Sean Kohnen, and directed by Matthew. Watch the Trailer below:

Drac Studios is gearing up for a busy 2010. The FX shop behind Watchmen , The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Trailer Park of Terror has a number of projects hitting the screen, hopefully, this year including the creature bonanzas Night of the Demons and Dead of Night . Their upcoming slate doesn't stop there, however. Drac's Todd Tucker tells us there are a number of films they're in pre-production on. "There's a shark film, there's another one that's a cat person sort of film, then there's an alien movie. A lot of creature-heavy stuff." That shark film is Dead in the Water , directed by Rob Walker and written by Si Dunn. "Right now we're looking at only doing the FX," Tucker says. "They asked us to produce, but we haven't signed...

In the spirit of Halloween '09, we're breaking out reviews (some new, some old) of some Fall Frights you may want to work into your monthly viewing.

I have to be honest: I wasn’t looking forward to seeing this film, despite the buzz at the Slamdance Film Festival, where I caught its premiere last week. At the fest’s headquarters at the Treasure Mountain Inn in Park City, Utah, the place was awash with half-drunk weirdos pumped to catch the late-night screening. I hid my press badge, hoping to avoid any conversation about what was sure to be a stinker—how could it not be with a title like Trailer Park Of Terror? Settling into my uncomfortable seat in the makeshift theater, I sighed and waited for the war between sleep and cinematic schlock to begin. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Actor Jon "Napoleon Dynamite" Heder will star in an adaptation of author Bradley Denton's sci fi novel, Buddy Holly Is Alive and Well on Ganymede, from a screenplay by Robert "Superfad" Rugan, who will also direct. Molly "Diary Of A Mad Black Woman" Mayeux will produce through her Dahlia Street Films alongside producing partner Michael "Trailer Park Of Terror" Hennessy. Brian Bullock of Caspian Pictures will executive produce the project. Premise of the book follows 'Oliver Vale', an average 'geek' whose life changes when singer 'Buddy Holly' appears on every TV channel, declaring Vale is the only one who understands why this occurs, as he is pursued by 'disfigured' aliens. "Years later, we would look back with longing and say that the music had died. We should have known better." Sneak Peek a TV performance of singer Buddy Holly and the Crickets from 1957...

Get your motor running and head out on some abandoned roads where your car will more than likely break down in front of an inbred ax emurderer’s shack.
As summer is in full swing and the roads heat up, our hearts yearn for adventure on the open road. Here are our top ten films that might just make your forget about any road trip you had planned.
1. The Hitcher (1986- original) – Labeled as gore fest featuring a brutal death every ten minutes, The Hitcher firmly established Rutger Hauer as one creepy mofo. And what can be better than one Jennifer Jason Leigh? Two Jennifer Jason Leighs!
2. Joy Ride (2001) – The golden rule of any road trip: don’t piss off a truck driver. This film did make me crave a candy cane for some reason.
3. Jeepers Creepers 2 (2003) – A basketball team gets trapped on a bus with their cheerleaders in the middle of nowhere.

After a few years’ absence, the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards are back in their original format, giving you the chance to vote for the best genre films, filmmakers and actors from the past year. There was such a bumper crop of good stuff released in 2008 that narrowing down the nominees to five in certain categories was truly tough; a couple of movies (most notably Splinter) will wait till next year when they’ve gotten more DVD exposure.
E-mail your votes (be sure to vote in all categories; personal e-mails only, no mass ballots) to postalzone@starloggroup.com. For the Fango Hall of Fame, be sure not to vote for Dario Argento, Rick Baker, Clive Barker, Mario Bava, Rob Bottin, Doug Bradley, Tim Burton, Bruce Campbell, James Cameron, John Carpenter, Jeffrey Combs, Don Coscarelli, Wes Craven, David Cronenberg, Jamie Lee Curtis, Peter Cushing, Joe Dante, Guillermo del Toro, Brad Dourif, Robert Englund,...
