Kissology Pt. 1 1973-1977 : review #1 ~ Let Me Go, Rock and Roll!
Although I'm not a member of the infamous KISS Army,I have a brother who is a 30 year fan of the group (one line-up or another). Without his input and getting me up to speed on KISS when we were younger,I'd most likely still be thinking New Wave rules!
A 1976 Cobo Hall concert was previewed last fall (October 2006) in very limited and selected AMC movie locations around the U. S. It was an incredible experience seeing it on a big wide movie screen because it highlighted what was and still is,so great about KISS in the 70s in the first place.
There are more concerts along with the extra, separate DVD included.
The DVD's have clips as far back as 1973 (although the first ones are a bit shaky. We are treated to rare concerts (some on B & W videotape). Even when not in color,KISS's performances make it worth it. We get to see the guys at their young, wild, crazy and energetic best! Paul Stanley,as the star on his eye indicates, shows what being a rock star is all about,Gene does too and truly becomes The Beast on stage (even igniting his own hair in one show).
Peter Criss and Ace finally can be seen as the rockers that they truly are. Instead of the secondary members they've been portrayed as over the years.
We even get long shelved TV appearances from the original "ABC In Concert" from 1974 and their debut on "The Mike Douglas Show" with Gene looking his scary & wickedest ever! There's also plenty of rare TV ads and actual "music-videos" made in the early days. The videos are as cleaned up as they could make them (some sat so long there's no correcting small glitches).
There's also a separate DVD-Extra concert included. So even if you're not a fan (unless you hate them, rock and roll or loud music in general) I urge anyone to get this set while it's out there. This is an incredibly well assembled collection of 1970s rock history. KISS filmed and video-taped virtually everything then and I know the fans are so very glad they did.
10 stars for these four stars and the best of their beginnings, that we can now see right before our eyes. You wanted the best, you got the best.....KISS! - (END)
