Prominent U.S. producer Christina Wayne, who shepherded “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad,” has been appointed managing director of Mbc Studios, the expanding production arm of top Middle East broadcaster Mbc Group.

There are a lot of befores and afters in television history. Before and after colour transmission, for example, or before and after live broadcasts. And then there are the shows that catalyse great changes: before and after Seinfeld, before and after The Sopranos, before and after Breaking Bad. It’s the last of these that we are still feeling the ripples from: whether it’s Ozark or Happy Valley, TV drama is currently dominated by men thrown in at the deep end, struggling for their lives. And there is no show that takes this more seriously than the Bryan Cranston-led Your Honor.
As the second series opens, Adam Desiato’s death is still raw. His father, Michael (Bryan Cranston), has been impeached and seems to have taken the Unabomber as his grooming icon. He is approached by ambitious agent Olivia (Rosie Perez) who has the Baxter dynasty in her sights.

During the peak of Covid, as movie theaters were struggling to stay open and blockbusters were getting delayed again and again, Hollywood tightened its wallet for expensive Super Bowl spots. Why spend a casual 6 million — or more — to promote a film that may not see the light of day any time soon?
But the movies are back, baby. And there’s no better place to guarantee America’s undivided attention than the most-watched television event of the year. Over 100 million viewers are expected to tune into this year’s showdown, between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, slated for broadcast on Fox on Feb. 12.

Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston recalls a funny story in which he and costar Aaron Paul ate fake blue crystal meth on set. First airing on AMC in 2008, Breaking Bad would go on widely to be considered one of the best TV shows of all time. The series, which is created by Vince Gilligan, features Cranston playing high school chemistry teacher Walter White, who teams up with former student Jesse (Paul) to cook meth after a terminal cancer diagnosis. Breaking Bad ultimately ran for 5 acclaimed seasons, but both Cranston and Paul would return for cameos in the recently-concluded Better Call Saul spinoff show.
In a recent "Hot Ones" interview on the First We Feast YouTube channel, Cranston recalls a time when he and Paul started munching on fake crystal meth on the Breaking Bad set in order to stay awake during a long day of filming.

HBO's The Last of Us co-creator explains why Nick Offerman was cast as Bill, despite having a more comedic background. While The Last of Us generally follows the journey of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as they desperately try to find the Fireflies, who are waiting across the post-apocalyptic United States, episode 3 featured a significant departure from Joel and Ellie. Instead, the narrative focused on Bill and Frank (Murray Bartlett), two men who meet years after the outbreak and fall in love in the meantime.
While Offerman played his role brilliantly, there was a question of why such a comedy-focused actor – who first came into prominence through Parks and Recreation – would be cast for such a dramatic and heavy role that might even lead to a potential The Last of Us spin-off

Since Disney finalized its acquisition of Fox in 2019, fans have been wondering what the X-Men’s return to the big screen might look like under Disney’s ownership. That’s still up in the air — despite some recent hints and cameos — but that hasn’t stopped a lot of wild guesses about what the future holds for Marvel’s mutants.

The final episodes of Better Call Saul contained shocking conclusions for many of the show's longest-running characters while also introducing new faces, with David the sommelier (Reed Diamond) being one of the most compelling. While David only appears in one scene of the show, he adds a significant level of detail to one of the most mysterious characters from both Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad, aloof crime boss Gustavo Fring (Giancarlo Esposito). Through a short conversation between the two, viewers were given a rare glimpse inside Fring's mind.
Deception is one of the biggest themes in Better Call Saul, so while it was unsurprising to see Fring have yet another secret, the rapport that he shared with David demanded a deep level of analysis. David is one of many memorable side characters from Better Call Saul who exude the energy of a main character, but the fact that he

Paul McCartney’s music has been used in plenty of mediums. Movies and TV shows will often have scenes or montages that feature a Beatles or McCartney song playing over it. Director Rian Johnson has publicly expressed his love for The Beatles and Paul McCartney and has incorporated their music into a few of his projects, such as Glass Onion. An episode of his latest series, Poker Face, ends with a McCartney song that sets the tone for the show.

Despite all the ways Better Call Saul improved Breaking Bad, what truly made the spinoff prequel series so good was a character that was not even part of Breaking Bad. When a Breaking Bad prequel focused on Saul Goodman was announced, it was difficult to imagine that such a story could be as good as following Walter White’s fall for five seasons. Saul Goodman was already an audience-favorite character, yet Breaking Bad had never really explored Heisenberg's lawyer beyond his importance to Walter and Jesse’s story. This was a challenge that Better Call Saul had to overcome, and it did perfectly.
By not limiting itself to the original show’s characters, Better Call Saul became better than Breaking Bad. That said, Better Call Saul did begin by focusing on its Breaking Bad connections. Not only did the show open as a Breaking Bad sequel following Saul Goodman’s new life in Omaha,

As Netflix reported fourth-quarter earnings last week, it shocked the industry by also announcing that Reed Hastings, the long time head of the company and architect of its transition from a DVD-by-mail service to global streaming leader, would step down as CEO. His shift, though, is just an outward sign of the significant inflection point the company finds itself at, as shown by numbers that reflect changing consumer behavior as the streaming industry matures.
Netflix hit a new low in terms of the global share of demand for its original series in the fourth quarter, according to Parrot Analytics‘ data, which takes into account consumer research, streaming, downloads and social media, among other engagement. In the final quarter of 2022, Netflix originals accounted for 39.6 of demand for streaming original series globally. This was the streamer’s first time falling below a 40 share globally and reflects how new entrants have cut into its dominant market share.

A Malcolm in the Middle revival may be in the works, and the chances of it happening are actually secretly helped by the existence of Breaking Bad. The link between the two shows is Bryan Cranston, with the actor playing Hal in Malcolm in the Middle and Walter White in Breaking Bad. So, although the two shows couldn't seem more different (with Malcolm in the Middle being a lighthearted sitcom and Breaking Bad being a tense drama), Breaking Bad may be the key to a Malcolm in the Middle revival actually happening.
Starting in the year 2000, actor and comedian Bryan Cranston rose to fame by playing Malcolm in the Middle's dysfunctional father, Hal Wilkerson. After the show ended in 2006, Cranston's career then took a drastic turn, with the actor being cast as the star of Breaking Bad. David Chase's refusal to adhere to an unspoken rule in TV helped to secure the success of The Sopranos. HBO's gangster drama is still lauded as one of the greatest American TV dramas of all time, and it has lost little of its power in the years since it concluded its run. Its focus on complex, morally compromised characters was relatively new ground for US television in the late 1990s, and the success of how David Chase and his writing team handled those characters continues to influence creators to this day.
Shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and even Game of Thrones have tried to repeat the success of The Sopranos with mixed results. All of these shows follow the template set out by David Chase and the character of Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini). Bryan Cranston is probably best known for his iconic role in Breaking Bad, but his guest appearance in one episode of The X-Files helped make the entire show possible. While the two shows don’t seem to have much in common at first glance, the two shows share an element of creative direction, with Breaking Bad’s showrunner having spent his early days as a writer on The X-Files. Breaking Bad would go on to become a critically acclaimed TV show, but without Vince Gilligan’s experience with Bryan Cranston on The X-Files, the show’s protagonist might not have been as compelling.
Breaking Bad chronicles the plight of Cranston’s Walter White, a high school teacher who turns to cooking meth as a way to provide for his family after a cancer diagnosis. While he starts off with good intentions, he eventually trades his morals for power as he transforms into the drug kingpin,

Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart starred in Neil Burger's 2017 drama film The Upside, which was a remake of the 2011 French hit, The Intouchables. During an upcoming episode of Bill Maher's Club Random podcast, Cranston revealed that he and Hart are currently developing a sequel to the film, according to Variety. The episode, in which the Breaking Bad actor announced the news, will be released this Thursday. "We're doing a sequel to it", Cranston mentioned regarding the upcoming project.

Bryan Cranston starred alongside Kevin Hart in the 2017 dramedy “The Upside,” based on the true story of a paralyzed billionaire who befriends a recently paroled convict and hires him as a caretaker. Appearing on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast, Cranston revealed that the story isn’t yet over, as he and Hart are working on a follow-up film.
“We’re doing a sequel to it,” Cranston said in an episode that will premiere on Jan. 30.
With a 37 million budget, “The Upside” grossed 125 million at the box office, and marked comedian Hart’s first significant dramatic role. But despite its commercial success, Cranston said he “got shit” for playing a quadriplegic in the movie.
“I got a lot of shit for that,” he said. “I am an able-bodied actor playing a disabled actor.”
Maher responded, “I mean, it’s called acting. It’s almost the whole point, that you are

"Undone" is impressive for many reasons, but its ability to combine wildly different genres might be the biggest. On the one hand, there's the stark depiction of listless 20-year-old Alma Winograd-Diaz (Rosa Salazar) and her family drama, which makes the show so emotionally affecting. On the other, there's the wild time and space-bending sci-fi adventure featuring the ghost of her late father, Jacob Winograd (Bob Odenkirk). In the show's first season, after a car accident gives Alma the ability to traverse space and time, she embarks on a multi-dimensional journey to try to solve the mystery of her father's death.

Warning: The following article contains discussion of suicide.
For two shows that were primarily focused on the criminal underworld and the dark deeds that humans are capable of, it was hardly surprising that death featured heavily in both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, but some of these deaths were more shocking than others. Creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould regularly proved that they weren't interested in going for the cheap or gratuitous choices when it came to character deaths, and this approach led to some thrilling surprises throughout both series. Although it started out as an origin show for Breaking Bad's criminal lawyer Saul Goodman, a.k.a Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk), Better Call Saul killed off several characters as Jimmy descended further and further into Albuquerque's criminal underworld.
The ending of Breaking Bad was arguably a foregone conclusion, with Walter White (Bryan Cranston) likely to either die

When it comes to the gritty world created by Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould displayed in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, romance usually isn't at the forefront of every character's mind as they are usually more focused on concocting a great scheme or trying to survive the dangerous world of the meth business even to start to think about dating, but that is not to say that there isn't plenty of love found in the iconic TV series and its spin-off.

New releases get the marketing momentum and media buzz. But older titles that stand the test of time, often called “legacy” shows, can be exceptionally valuable in the streaming era. Thanks to their rewatchability and appeal to different generations, these shows can be key to convincing audiences to stay subscribed.
We’re defining “legacy” shows as one that had its first season before 2012, ended before 2020 and continues to generate strong demand according to Parrot Analytics‘ data, which takes into account consumer research, streaming, downloads and social media, among other engagement.
By that measure, the most in-demand legacy show in the U.S. is “Game of Thrones,” with 80.6 times more demand than the average show in the last quarter of 2022. The show, which ran from 2011 to 2019, is still one of the most successful shows in television history. It received a boost in attention this year from the long-awaited release of its prequel “House of the Dragon.

Walt and Jesse reunite to recreate an iconic Breaking Bad scene for a Super Bowl ad. Widely considered one of the best dramas in the history of television, Breaking Bad famously follows Bryan Cranston as Walter White, a dispirited high school chemistry teacher who, after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, teams up with his former student, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), to make crystal meth. Breaking Bad recently experienced a surge in popularity when Walt and Jesse returned in Better Call Saul season 6, and now, the two protagonists are set to return yet again in a Super Bowl commercial for PopCorners chips.

When Oscar-nominated “Knives Out” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” filmmaker Rian Johnson was pitching his new series “Poker Face” around town, he “got a lot of blank stares.” The show’s pilot – which he wrote in advance of pitching – introduces a character named Charlie who is able to tell when anyone is lying. The feature-length episode puts Charlie in grave danger and ends with her hitting the road. And while Johnson admits the story could become “a ‘Killing Eve’ thing” after that ending, it instead kicks off a case-of-the-week series in which Charlie (played by Natasha Lyonne) meets new characters and solves a new mystery in each episode as she travels the country.
“I guess I wasn’t prepared for how crazy a swing it would seem to a lot of people I pitched to,” Johnson told TheWrap of his idea to make an episodic TV series. He’s

Rian Johnson's latest project, the Peacock original series Poker Face, is continuing an incredible trend for the filmmaker. After beginning his career with films like Brick and The Brothers Bloom, Johnson transitioned into Hollywood filmmaking with Looper and Breaking Bad. This led to an excursion into a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: The Last Jedi before Johnson began his recent filmmaking trend in 2019.
This trend began with Knives Out, the murder mystery film following the exploits of Benoit Blanc in an Agatha Christie-inspired whodunnit adventure. Knives Out received critical acclaim and was a return to form for the genre and one of the best films of 2019. This only continued with its sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, before Johnson began 2023 with Poker Face, furthering his murder mystery hot streak.

Furthermore, PopCorners has revealed that Raymond Cruz is reprising his role as kingpin Tuco Salamanca (check out the photo below) and that Breaking Bad creator, head writer, executive producer and director, Vince Gilligan, directed the commercial and teaser videos. Following the Glass Onion's success, his next project is the similarly-themed mystery-comedy show Poker Face, which stars Russian Doll's Natasha Lyonne in the leading role. Poker Face will premiere with four episodes on January 26 on Peacock.

With so many in-depth legal dramas on TV these days, someone might feel like they're a lawyer after simply consuming these shows. However, some legal dramas spend less time than others on the law aspect whereas others have clearly spent months researching and working with real-life defense attorneys. Several great legal dramas feature a different case each week, but the very best legal dramas go further than the procedural nature of the genre and take some major risks.

A very positive update on The Last of Us season 2 from Bella Ramsey indicates it is likely on the way. Ramsey plays Ellie, a teenage girl born into a worldwide apocalypse that is brought on after the Cordyceps fungus evolves to infect human beings. Within days, the majority of the globe has been converted into fungus-driven zombies, and Ellie grows up as an orphan in a Quarantine Zone. Yet, after being bitten by an infected zombie, she discovers she is immune to Cordyceps, and is placed into the care of Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) as he tries to get her to scientists who can use her natural immunity to develop a cure.
As an adaptation, The Last of Us is a game-accurate depiction of a world gone to hell, and Ellie and Joel are right in the middle of the chaos. With its ominous atmosphere, cunning sense of humor, and

Once upon a time, most of television was like Poker Face, the new Peacock drama created by Glass Onion’s Rian Johnson and starring Russian Doll’s Natasha Lyonne. It is a purely episodic, case-of-the-week show. Each episode sets up its own specific story, which Lyonne’s Charlie Cale finds a way to conclude by the end of the hour. There are some extremely loose ongoing threads, but you could in theory watch every episode but the first in any order and get the same enjoyment out of each. It

Oranges are an important symbol in The Godfather, and their hidden meaning has become a commonly used shorthand in visual language. Adapted from the Mario Puzo novel of the same name, Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 gangster epic revolves around aging mob boss Vito Corleone as he reluctantly hands the reins of his powerful criminal empire to his wayward son Michael. At the time of its release, The Godfather was briefly the highest-grossing movie ever made. Universally praised as a masterpiece, The Godfather is full of symbols and motifs for eagle-eyed viewers to spot.
The Godfather was also one of the cornerstones of the “New Hollywood” movement in which dark, edgy, violent, cynical movies unexpectedly became commercially viable. And it began a string of all-time great movies directed by Francis Ford Coppola, followed by The Conversation, The Godfather Part II, and Apocalypse Now. From horses’ heads to offers that can’t be refused,

Talk to anyone involved with Peacock detective series Poker Face long enough and they’ll eventually, invariably invoke the name of one of television’s most iconic characters: Columbo.
Los Angeles Police Department homicide detective Lieutenant Columbo (first name unknown but probably Frank) first appeared in the 1968 pilot episode of what would become the beloved long-running gumshoe series bearing his name. As portrayed by veteran actor Peter Falk, Columbo continued the Sherlock Holmes tradition of intensely idiosyncratic problem-solvers. Unapologetically blue collar with his wrinkly beige raincoat and perpetually-lit cigar, the detective would drop into crime scenes like an unassuming transient. Then he would lull murderers into a false sense of security with his benign presence only to then lay down the hammer with a well-placed “just one more thing … ” and ask the question that will close the case for good.
Structurally, Columbo was refreshingly revelatory for its medium. The series

Point-and-click mystery game The Excavation of Hob's Barrow tells a short but complex tale that's wonderfully voice acted, with a narrative that manages to still take some shocking turns in its somewhat brief runtime. Hob's Barrow comes from developer Cloak and Dagger Games, which specializes in point-and-clicks, and publisher Wadjet Eye Games, which has previously been a part of titles like Old Skies and Primordia. The game is a brilliant blend of folklore and cosmic horror that's only bogged down by a few fetch quests that feel more drawn out than they need to be.
One of the first things that stands out about The Excavation of Hob's Barrow is its unnerving ambiance. Similar to other great video games like Immortality, Hob's Barrow excels in having generally unsettling overtones that players can't quite place their finger on at first. When protagonist Thomasina Bateman first arrives in the small town of Bewlay,

Breaking Bad celebrated its 15th anniversary on January 20th, 2023, with the years in between only proving how well the series has aged. Breaking Bad was created by Vince Gilligan, and has since become one of the most acclaimed TV series of all time. While the first season received positive reviews on its initial air dates, the following four received rave reception, leading to the show's status as an all-time classic being solidified.
The first episode aired on AMC on January 20th, 2008, before the fifth and final season culminated the show on September 29th, 2013. The series has since seen two extensions to the story, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie and Better Call Saul. The former is primarily a sequel to Breaking Bad, with the latter serving as both a prequel and sequel. With Breaking Bad still lingering in audiences' minds long after its initial air date, it is worth exploring

After getting his start in the world of sketch and improv comedy, Bob Odenkirk has turned into one of the most recognizable names in the world of prestige TV. Giancarlo Esposito has become the latest addition to the all-star cast of Francis Ford Coppola's latest film, Megalopolis. Coppola is one of the most decorated directors in history with five Oscars and an Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award to his name, boasting The Godfather trilogy and Apocalypse Now among other acclaimed productions in his filmography. Esposito found fame as the villainous Gustavo Fring on Breaking Bad and later Better Call Saul, a role he received three Emmy nods for. He also has roles in many hugely popular productions, including The Boys and The Mandalorian, and most recently led the Netflix heist series Kaleidoscope.
Deadline now reports that Esposito has boarded the cast of Megalopolis, putting him alongside such big names as Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, and Laurence Fishburne. Despite a busy schedule which includes other upcoming projects including the Netflix's The Gentlemen spinoff show, Esposito has made the time to join the ongoing production.

“Megalopolis” has a new resident.
TheWrap has confirmed that Giancarlo Esposito, perhaps best known for his role as heavies in “Breaking Bad” (and “Better Call Saul”) and “The Mandalorian,” has joined Francis Ford Coppola’s sprawling sci-fi epic. He joins an already stacked cast that includes Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Aubrey Plaza, Laurence Fishburne, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Dustin Hoffman, Shia LeBeouf, James Remar and D.B. Sweeney.
The plot for “Megalopolis” concerns an architect who becomes obsessed with rebuilding a formerly grand city. Coppola first started thinking about the idea in the 1980’s (last year on a podcast Rob Lowe said the director brought it up to him on the set of “The Outsiders”) and by 2007 Coppola had suggested that the project would never actually see the light of day. That changed last year when it was announced that Coppola would be sinking more than 120 million of his own money into the project,

Despite reports of chaos behind the scenes, Francis Ford Coppola's "Megalopolis" isn't dead yet. In fact, the latest film from the director of genre-defining classics like "The Godfather" and "Apocalypse Now" looks very alive today as Deadline reports that it's just added Giancarlo Esposito to its cast list in an undisclosed role. The wildly talented "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul" star is fresh off a win for Best Supporting Drama Actor at this year's Critics Choice Awards, and he joins an already star-studded ensemble aboard the Coppola picture.
"Megalopolis" is a passion project for Coppola that's decades in the making. The filmmaker apparently first penned the script way back in the '80s but shelved it in 2001 after 9/11 made the idea of a film set in post-disaster New York seem untenable. In 2019, the filmmaker finally decided to give the project another go and revealed that he'd be financing the project himself.

With news that the Dcu's Superman is getting recast, it also seems likely that Jesse Eisenberg will not be returning to play Lex Luthor in the next Superman movie - but there are a lot of other actors that could. Lex Luthor is one of the most formidable foes in comic book history, and the character has been played by countless different respected actors over the decades since Superman was first brought to the screen. So, with the Dcu seemingly going through a soft reboot, it's time for another iteration of Lex Luthor to join the Superman franchise.
Many actors have played the egotistical billionaire in live action, including Gene Hackman, Michael Rosenbaum, and Titus Welliver, but the Dcu's most recent iteration of Lex Luthor was portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg. Lex Luthor is Superman's main arch-nemesis, with the character appearing in all kinds of Superman stories, regardless of if he's the main villain or not.
