This special was scheduled to air on 27 November and 29 November 2006 to promote O.J. Simpson's upcoming book "If I Did It". But some Fox affiliates refused to air it and there was massive public outcry. On 20 November, News Corporation CEO Rupert Murdoch announced that both the special and the book were canceled. (News Corp. owns FOX and HarperCollins Publishers.) In 2007, the book was released by another company under the title 'If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer'. The special ultimately aired on FOX on 11 March 2018, as "O.J. Simpson: The Lost Confession?", with additional commentary from a panel including Publisher and TV/film producer Judith Regan, Attorney Christopher Darden, Nicole Brown Simpson family representative Eve Shakti Chen, anti-domestic violence advocate Rita Smith, and retired FBI profiler Jim Clemente.

Comedy at it's best

Awful the "politically correct" Murdoch decided to prevent us from what could have been a hilarious hour of entertainment, I would classify in the comedy department. We forgot how dumb OJ was. That Judith Regan managed to convince him to do that. She... a pro. I wanted to see OJ , knife in hand , with a big smile , telling us how he (would have) stabbed his wife to death after slicing poor ol' Goldman. The jacuzzi would have been bubbling with blood red water. And then we would have had the "how do I cover my tracks" part. Coming from OJ, that's entertainment ! Better than what Hollywood could ever come up with. Come on, the "Juice" re-enacting the killing, trying to be convincing, trying to steer us away from reality on purpose. There is , unfortunately , no super lawyer to help him out here. And how about a Fuhrman reaction to this ? ENTERTAINMENT, I tell you people ! We missed out.
