Game of the Year is shining on this gem, and the more improved Nintendo is on online capabilities, the better off we all shall be. Nintendo far from half-assed this incredible delight, we definitely get our money's worth purchasing this game. If you own a Wii, you need Brawl in your life. There aren't enough words to express just how much fun this game is, even if we get shortcomings because of what the competitors have to offer in terms of the internet. However, its free, and its not that bad, and it's the beginning of something good involving Nintendo and Wi-Fi. In the meantime, find some friends, and prepare for the time of your life. Super Smash Brothers Brawl: Not just a game you should own, but THE game to own; if there is one game you should buy in 2008, its this one. You can thank me later.

    Presentation: The past, present, and potential future of Nintendo join together to fight evil, and then each other. Epic soundtrack, epic feel, and has the most polished feel since Super Mario Galaxy (10/10)

    Graphics: While it looks a lot like Melee, the cutscenes, and jaw-dropping background prove that they poured their hearts into making this game look pretty. The framerate refuses to drop unless you go online (8.8/10)

    Sound: Perhaps the best soundtrack in gaming history, the 200+ songs compliment the insane amount of sound effects that do nothing more but enhance the Brawling experience. (10/10)

    Gameplay: It plays like Melee, but that's not an issue, especially when the cheap moves are limited and the clones are beginning to gather a personality. There's too much to do, and its all so much fun (9.8/10)

    Lasting Appeal: Where do I begin? I shouldn't, because as long as you enjoy the fighting style of this game, it will remain embedded in your Nintendo Wii for years to come. Must purchase immediately (10/10)

  • This games has 36 characters and more fun. This game is one of my games that i like to play. I started playing this when i was 6 or 7 years old and it was fun with all the experience and bosses. The games has Sonic,Snake and more characters i like to play as It's fun because of the Suspace Emissary and the boss battles that will appear after you've played Suspace Emissary.

    So this game i rated 10 stars or 9 stars on the main page to this game. This game should be a No. 1 game on the MTV'S Game Awards of 2008. So after this game came we had the series an the others. Best game ever

  • I got my Wii with a special offer, and it came with Super Smash Bros. Brawl. From the minute I started playing it, I was hooked. Brawl is definitely the best game in the Smash Bros. series, and it towers over Smash Bros. and Melee.

    The animation in the cut scenes was outstanding, it really made the characters come alive. The controls were easy and easy to remember, and the Final Smashes were absolutely amazing! Add the two things above to trophies, stickers, music, and the ability to play old Nintendo games, and you've got yourself a winner! I enjoyed the story mode, and liked the fact that Brawl is the first Smash Bros. to have a full solo story mode.

    I loved the WiFi, brawling with people that don't even live in the same time zone as me was really fun. If a fourth Smash Bros. is released, it will be hard to beat Brawl in greatness and pretty much everything.

    If you have a Wii, Brawl is an absolute MUST-HAVE!!! It is probably the best fighting game out there, and it is definitely fun when there are four people brawling.

    Super Smash Bros. Brawl is probably the best Nintendo game so far.

  • "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" is everything I wanted it to be. I wanted it to be similar enough to the first two so that the wonderful gameplay would not change. It didn't. But I wanted more stuff. More things to do. I got that.

    This film is loyal to the first two games and the Bros. franchise but it is special in its own way. There are so many different ways to play, a plethora of characters (again) to use and master.

    Also brilliant is the WiFi connection. People around the world are brawling it up. Just brilliant.

    But for me, the one thing that makes this game so, so good is the MUSIC. They took a ton of old themes from old games and recreated them in a way that was awesome, but remaining loyal to these wonderful classics.

    The attention to detail is astounding. The difficulty level can be immense, and the level of fun is very high.

    It will be remembered as a Wii classic.
  • Super Smash Bros Brawl is the best Super Smash Bros game in the series. It has pretty much an endless amount of unlock-ables, and is fun overall. You can fight in tons of arenas, such as a take on the original Donkey Kong, Sonic The Hedgehog's Green Hill Zone, and many others. Some characters include Donkey Kong, Wario, Lucario, Bowser, Solid Snake, R.O.B., and Sonic. Unlike the other Super Smash Bros games, there is an extra powerful attack you can unlock that varies for each character called Final Smash, relating to the characters' original games, which make game-play even more exciting and fun. Therefore,I guarantee that you will be hooked for months trying to unlock all the characters, stages, and everything else that can be unlocked.

    And Yes, the game even allows you to use gamecube controllers, so all of you who've got the recession on your mind can enjoy brawl. actually, thats how i've been enjoying brawl for 2 weeks now. It's much more fun to play brawl with controllers rather than the Wiimote.

    Smash Bros Brawl is a fighting Game for the Nintendo Wii. the Object is to take control of one of Nintendo's mascots, and battle it out on a themed stage to see who can get the most Ko's or be the sole survivor of a stock battle. the person who survives, or scores the most points is the winner. The players can use items such as Laser Swords, Ray guns, Huge hammers, and pokeballs to ensure victory, and when things seem hopeless, the player might be lucky enough to get the final smash attack as it floats across the screen, just waiting to be used. what is it? it's an epic move that will cause the player to do something related to his or her game. for example, Samus fires off a humongous beam of light from her laser cannon, Starfox gets into a landmaster and devastates everybody on the screen, and Mr. Game and Watch turns into an octopus of death.

    Here's a History lesson for those who don't game as much as I do. Super Smash Bros dates back to 1999, with the original Super Smash bros on the Nintendo 64 console. Originally, the game was exclusive to japan, and nearly didn't see the shores of north America. the game wasn't popular in japan, so Nintendo was taking a big chance bringing the title to north America (i don't think it was a big chance, considering America's love of violence) but when they did, the game became a best seller! Soon, kids all over the states were smash attacking Mario and his friends into hyperspace with Baseball bats, unleashing Pokémon with pokeballs, and fighting what might be the best boss ever in a video game...the Master hand. overall, with 4 player battles, SSB kept college students from doing homework, and kids having sleepovers, just without any sleep (believe me, i saw it. i was so tired for Friday night basketball the next day.)

    2 years later, Nintendo brought the smash bros game into the 6th gen, as Super smash Bros: Melee. with many improvements, extra characters i didn't even know about (and many other 11 year old boys for that matter) came to the mêlée, all with special abilities and techniques. this was the first time us North Americans were introduced to Marth and Roy, the fire emblem Characters. this also introduced me to Mr. Game and Watch, which i never actually knew the full story about until about 3 days ago. Screwattack.com put this game at number 4 of their best gamecube games of all time list, stating "If you don't own mêlée, you don't own a gamecube."

    Finally, After teasing and Teasing us gamers for about a year, Super Smash Bros Brawl finally hit the shelves in 2008. Even to this day, the game is constantly sold out at future shop, gamestops, and EB games. it's that popular. Bringing extra little things, like the coin launcher, Wi-fi, and 3rd party characters, brawl is the ultimate party game. but light triton, what 3rd party characters are involved? Uh, Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid, and..

    "Woah, woah, Since when is Solid Snake going to be in a Mario-related game? the 2 haven't made contact before!"

    Tis true, reader. But the man behind Metal Gear Solid (Hideo Kojima) Practically Begged Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario's Creator, To put Solid Snake in the game. Being that game programmers and creators have an honourable respect for each other, (unlike Sega and Nintendo in the early 1990s) Solid Snake was in the game. And speaking of Sega, Guess who else comes to the brawl?

    Thats right. Sonic...the hedgehog.

    That has been a gamer's wish since 1991. to See Sega's mascot, and Nintendo's mascot go one on one and whoop some ass.

    But let me tell you something about sonic, and a few other characters. Trying to control Mario is like driving the family corolla. easy-going, and simple. Donkey Kong is like a Dodge ram truck, slow, but strong. Pikachu is like a little Suzuki swift, quick, but little, and sonic? He's like trying to control an Alfa Romeo Schigera.

    Yes. He's that Fast. No Blast Processing Needed. and i'm not even mentioning how things get more like a Light-Speed Symphony of Destruction when sonic gets the final smash.

    Bottom line, Kids, Play this game. Teenagers, play this game. Senior citizens, play this game, Jack Thompson, play this game. Parents, This game isn't as violent as it seems! you should play it too! forget blowing $99.99 on Wii fit, just go and get Super Smash Bros: Brawl. I guarantee you will not be Craigslisting it in a month.

  • "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" is a fighting game released on Wii year 2008. However, while I'm waiting for a "Super Smash Bros" game to be released for Wii U year 2014, I've decided to write a review for this Wii game to tell you what I've been thinking about "SSBB" in general. And therefore this happened to be the first game I'm gonna review about here on the IMDb site.

    Characters: There are at least 35 playable characters in this game. Besides from veteran characters like Mario, Peach, Donkey Kong, Fox McCloud, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff and Pikachu, there are several new characters as well, some of them being: Solid Snake, Sonic the Hedgehog, R.O.B., Lucario and Mr. Game & Watch just to name a few. As usual, many are playable from the start, while others have to be unlocked in specific ways.

    Stages: This game doesn't only have new stages designed for SSBB, it also include some stages originally from "Super Smash Bros. Melee" for Nintendo Gamecube, as well as stages made by fans on Stage Builder. More about the player-created stages later. As I said about the characters, some stages are available from the start, while other have to be unlocked in some ways.

    Nothing wrong with the item list as there are lots of items to be used in the "Brawl" mode and "Classic Mode". I just love the appearance of the Smash Ball, the Assist Trophy, Pokeball and the Smart Bomb.

    And there are even lots of challenges to be done in order to get some special trophies, stickers and music, as well as new parts for Stage Builder and more.

    So what makes this game great anyway? Yes, we got a spectacular adventure mode called "Subspace Emissary", where characters fight bosses and enemies, avoid or destroy obstacles and more in order to save the world from some dark power. When playing this game, I felt like this was a kind of "Super Smash Bros." meets "Final Fantasy", so great I found this adventure mode. This is the mode where I unlocked most of the unlockable characters like Ganondorf, Ness and Sonic.

    Another great with this game is the pretty much beloved Stage Builder, which allows players to create their own stages. Pretty simple, but unlimited fun. The only disappointing is the limit on how many bricks you can put on the stage you are making. People have even uploaded each of their stages on a certain web page, allowing other people to downloading these stage into their memory card so it could be played on other Wii consoles.

    Also, pausing during a match, "Subspace Emissary" or "Classic Mode" allows the player to take a picture and save it on the console itself, as well as in a memory card so the pictures could be uploaded on the internet.

    And there are other modes as well; A mode where pictures and all collected stickers and trophies can be looked at; a mode where you have to break the targets in fastest possible time; a "multi-man brawl" which can be somewhat frustrating in times; a boss battle; a home-run contest; event matches; Wi-Fi connection, and much much more...

    So yes, there have been much to in this game. I have even been using many months to complete most of the challenges I could do.

    My favorite characters in random order: PEACH (love her), Mario, Bowser, Donkey Kong and Captain Falcon. Some other characters I like to use include Pikachu, Wario, Zelda, Snake and Zero Suit Samus.

    Overall, this game is one of my favorite Wii game I have on my room. My overall rating: 10/10
  • Super Smash Brothers was an unexpected success when it started out in 1999, and now it's evolved into a flagship franchise for Nintendo, co-existing alongside Mario (and its many spin-offs), Zelda, Metroid and even recent mainstays like Pokemon. Brawl takes what made the earlier games great experiences and adds to them gorgeous refinement of the highest order: alongside one of the most cohesive recollections of Nintendo's longstanding history in the game industry (mentions as far and wide as (former Nintendo collaborator) Rareware's Nintendo 64 titles: Banjo Kazooie, Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark).

    Super Smash Brothers has become THE fighting game to play at parties and e-sports events worldwide and for great reason: the franchise is a game that ceases to be fake in the collective minds of players everywhere. The stages are gorgeous, the fighting is immersive bliss and it's got that WARM Nintendo charm to it that only a handful of games can muster for me: like Super Mario 64 or The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It's Nintendo at its absolute best.

    Brawl gets a golden 5/5 stars.

    Storyline: You have the choice to do a multiplayer battle straight off the bat, but it is recommended for you to complete the main solo story first. Mainly because you only get to play as a few character at the very start. Once you unlock a character in solo you can then use them in multiplayer. The game starts off by throwing you into battle against Mario or Kirby, it is dependent on who you picked to play as. But if you have never played a SmashBrothers game you might need to learn how to quite quickly dependent on the difficulty level you choose. You are then introduced to Pit, an angel from KidIcarus. Being one of Nintendo's less popular franchises barely anyone knew who Pit was before this game. You then open into the next segment of the level with a cutscene showing the almost ripoff licorice men you'll be fighting for the rest of the game. After beating them you are introduced to the Ancient Minister who will be the suspected antagonist for the first part of the game. To cut an immensely long story short, the rest of the game has you going from area to area, finding new characters and trying to stop the Ancient Minister from exploding any more dark void bombs. We are then shown that Ganondorf is the one calling the shots with Bowser and Wario as his minions. He is ordering them to turn people into statues and then kidnap them. We also then find out that Ganondorf is serving under Master Hand, the antagonist from the previous SmashBrothers game The bosses throughout the game do not get more difficult as you go along, they fluctuate between easy and hard constantly. The boss for The Wilds was considerably difficult, whereas Ridley in the Research Facility was quite easy just like Raquaza was in the Lake Shore. After Mario's and Marth's team join up, we go back to Meta Knight and Lucario on the Halberd and this is where we finally get to see and play as Snake. It still isn't explain how he got there in the first place. But his catchy theme music makes us forgive that. Another thing which isn't explain is how he is able to make boxes materialize out of thin air for when Meta Knight and Lucario run by through the corridors. The only reason I like Mr Game & Watch is generally because of how random he is as a character, along with his interesting move set. It also then brings together Fox's team, Snake's team and Zelda's team to make them 1 of the 3 big teams After that level you will have a boss fight against Meta Ridley, the reason I am mentioning this, is because it has one of the best boss themes in the entire game, almost as good as Snake's theme during his own introduction level. It's also different because it is the only boss fight you're being timed on. Ganondorf betrays Bowser and turns him into a statue before going to kiss up to Master Hand, but he notices that he himself was just a pawn in the game of another, because Master Hand has been controlled by Cyber Dr Manhattan, not really just a blue guy called Tabuu who has god like powers and puts both Ganondorf and Master Hand in their places. Using his finishing move he turns all of the heroes before us into statues, but thankfully the devices King Dedede put on Luigi and Ness work to free them later on when all hope is lost.

    Once you find everyone the cut scene will try and give you the impression that the quote "The Enemy of My Enemy Is My Friend" was used and that is the reason everyone is working together. But now comes the part which could take you anywhere from 2 hours to 6 hours to complete, it is the great maze. This whole part of the game reeks of "We couldn't think of what else to add" Because the next 40% of the game will be you going through levels you have already beaten, killing bosses you have already killed and fighting against the dark versions of each character you have unlocked in the game thus far. But I must admit they add cool new themes to the character fights. Overall Feel: The story had a mostly understandable narrative, even if every protagonist and every antagonist were silence through the game except for the odd groan sound every time you got hit. There were also some very good themes playing in the background, with most of them they are just there and you don't notice them, but then there are others which you listen to and end up dying many times because you're paying more attention to the music than the game. The game its self has nice graphics, keeps to a side scrolling 3D game style, some levels reward exploration which trophies and extra lives. Other levels punish it by killing you because you weren't paying attention and now the game is going to make you miss the one platform you need to complete the level.

    As mentioned before it is better to complete to story mode to give your friends better choice. But at the same time if they haven't played it before, you will not have much of a challenge on your hands and they will get bored of it extremely quickly. This is why it is better to play against others who have the game also, you will get the most fun out of it this way. It also has good replay-ability, mainly because the story is so simple that you'll forget half of by tomorrow, but it not a bad simplicity.

    When I saw the first trailer in May 2006 I got excited and from that moment until the game was released I was anxiously waiting for it.

    THE GOOD: The gameplay its extremely simple yet appealing for those who had played the previous versions.

    Many characters to use and many stages to play.

    The Final Smashes are a very special and fun feature.

    Finally a good solo mode.

    Many features besides fights (Trophies, stickers, hidden music, stage builder etc...)

    THE BAD:

    A bit slower gameplay.

    Loading times are sometimes long.

    WiFi feat. is good but sometimes lag and doesn't have a chart to challenge somebody.

    Pokemon are a bit weaker and useless now.

    THE BEST: EXTREMELY ENTRETAINING AND FUN WHEN 4 PEOPLE ARE PLAYING.

    It's a Wii Classic. If you have a Wii you must have this game.

    Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the third installment to the Super Smash Bros. fighting game series for Nintendo. Growing up on the 64 original and Melee, I was over excited hearing about a new SSB. However, upon gameplay, my views changed quickly.

    Gameplay: 4/10

    Online mode; one of the few things I have to give a thumbs up to. It's fun when your basic brawling and fighting with friends, but overall it's still kinda boring because you have no way to contact them except for a small comment box that can only like very very limited amount of characters. Many of the returning characters have lots more palette swaps to choose from along with the newcomers. Most of the new arriving characters are great.

    Brawl basically decreased the falling speed and increased the grab-the-ledge sweetspot; a Pro during your view but an overall Con; recovering is too easy now. Unlocking characters is WAY too simply; find them during story mode and BOOM, you have them on your roster. A majority of the reappearing characters attacks have weakened so your 64 and Melee strategies might not work anymore in this game. Sorry.

    Snake and Sonic? What's the point of these characters? I'm pretty sure this is a Nintendo game, not and International Console game. Why not Toad or Roy? Roy was good in Melee and Toad would've been a good speedy character. I guess Nintendo is starting to lack.

    Graphics: 4/10

    What Nintendo does nowadays is focus on the graphics first. I guess they thought it would support the gameplay. WRONG. It just added a feature that didn't appear in the first two games: IT'S TOO FREAKIN' SLOW!!!

    Features: 6/10

    Taking pictures during a fight was improvement over the predecessors. Also, more features and variety was added to the Special Brawl. Replays, great idea, nothing bad to say except for the 3-minute limitation but I can live with that. Subspace Emissary is the successor to Adventure Mode from Melee. The CGI cutscenes are masterpieces. The plot line is great. The Climax is exciting too. And a 2 player option. Creating stages and naming them was exciting to me. Also having the choice to send them to friends is pretty sweet too.

    I personally think that the unlockable Masterpieces were fun, but kind of a waste and unnecessary. Those are great games but they are just another reason why the game is as slow as it is. The Subspace Emissary is too easy for unlocking characters.

    A lot of the Pokemon in this game (from the pokeballs) are weaker and kinda useless so it's not as exciting finding a pokeball during a battle anymore.

    Music: 3/10

    Some of the music brings back that nostalgic feeling like Famicom Medley and Skyworld (Kid Icarus). Also the orchestra is beautiful on Ike's Theme and Mario Bros.

    Most of the music is junk. A lot of the songs are repetitive and short, especially the online mode waiting room; and some are just annoying like Target Test and Home-Run Contest. The signature tune for Brawl is overused. Most of the returning Melee tunes are slightly remixed and it's garbage though some are still great.

    I personally despise all the victory fanfares for the returning characters especially Cpt. Falcon's and Donkey Kong's.

    Stages: 4/10

    A majority of the stages a very small with small variety differences. The best thing about these small stages are the graphics and music, and I personally don't like either of those in this game. However, Mute City, Spear Pillar, Snake's Stage, Hanenbow, and Green Hill Zone have decent amount of space and lots of variety so I'm not disappointed in these.

    I don't recommend this game to 64 and Melee lovers, however this is my opinion so buy the game and rate it yourself.
  • I always pictured the third Super Smash Bros. game to be even better than the previous one. And I was right, when I first played the long awaited game.

    This game has everything you wish to see in a Super Smash Bros. game. More characters as fighters. Including some that were meant to be part of the series for sometime. More challenges, and endless game play.

    The thing to look forward to this game is the entirely original adventure mode, that's better than the one from mêlée. It's where you unlock most of the hidden fighters. As well as witnessing cinema-tics of the entirely original story that's told in the Adventure game. Something that was never featured in the previous games. So you'll witness some great computer graphics on the special effects and surroundings.

    Not only that, but as well as an expanded version of trophy collection, improved home run contest, target practice, and the return of the familiar classic mode.

    The music, concept, and detail of the whole game is all professionally made. There's nothing to hate about the game, it's everything you want a sequel of a great franchise to be. So don't hesitate in buying the game. It's one of the best fighter games you'll ever see on the Nintendo Wii.

    And keep thinking to yourself how much greater a 4th Super Smash Bros. would be from years from now.
  • This is a really really fun game, I have so many fun memories going over to my friends house just playing this game for hours. The action is really good and the story mode (subspace emissary) is in my opinion the best story mode throughout out the smash bros series (including super smash bros ultimate).

    Gameplay: The best. Brawl is the best of the series (Period). I have no complaints. Everything is flawless. I loved that you were able to fly with various characters and their Final smashes were OP in this game.

    The only thing I didn't like which is all based on preference is 4 way battles and the big stages. You can get distracted and not know where you are. I Prefer 1v1 battles or Player vs 4 cpus on smaller stages.

    Difficulty: From 1 to 7 the CPU can beaten if you play smart. Level 9 with no items, then CPU is kind of a cheater.

    Story mode wasn't hard it was at time confusing because you didn't know where to go. Nevertheless, I conquered it.

    Graphics: Great for a Wii console. You don't really need detail for childish characters anyways.

    Characters: a lot to choose from. Some new, some old. My favourite was Pit. The Best final smash in this game was Link like Final Smashes, they seem way more devastating compared to Jigglypuffs Final smash was could easily be avoided.

    Stages: I prefer the simple stages. Overall, the stages were fun. I liked how you could create stages. I often made some hard/crazy/impossible ones just to op the difficulty.

    Replay Value: Very high. You can play this game for hours if you are a child. Grown men like me as of now I could only last maybe 20 mintues.

    Last Words: For a Nintendo game this is def a classic. I can't say the same for the switch version.
