Based on the story of Micky Ward, a fledgling boxer who tries to escape the shadow of his more famous but troubled older boxing brother and get his own shot at greatness.
After Martin Scorsese turned down the the directing job, Mark Wahlberg tried to interest Peter Berg to direct the film, but when Berg said "Nah," Wahlberg took Christian Bale's suggestion to hire David O. Russell, who accepted the job.
That's the movie you wanted to see? There wasn't even any good sex in it. Had to read the whole fuckin' movie. Fuckin' subtitled. Some guy from a road crew recommended it to you, a fuckin' subtitled movie?
When Micky Ward takes Charlene to see the movie, in the background you can see a Citizens Bank. The logo, which is that of the Royal Bank of Scotland, wasn't adopted by Citizens until approximately 2005 or later, though the movie takes place in the 90s.
The real Micky Ward and Dicky Eklund are shown during the end credits.
