You Must Say Hello To Hulot
Marcel Perez arrives at the holiday resort wearing a pith helmet and carrying enough luggage to hold supplies for a monthlong journey through hostile territory. It's a good idea for a comic who never met a flight of stairs he didn't fall down.
It's a goodly set of gags for the comic known for the moment as Robinet. His earliest known appearances in movie comedy where in 1905, when no one was credited. He is now known to have appeared in Italian comedies from 1910-1015, under a variety of names; when he changed studios, he changed them, because the names belonged to the studios. He came to the US in 1915, and appeared under three names in some very inventive comedies. Every time he changed names, he changed his life story and sometimes he changed lives. It wasn't until the early 2000s that movie historian Steve Massa finally put it together they were all Robinet. Later, Massa and Ben Model issued two dvds of short comedies Perez appeared in, and expressed their hope that this would spur finding more.
And so it has. This one jus turned up on the Eye Institute site on Youtube. Enjoy.
