Tubi opens June with an intense WWII drama “Inglourious Basterds.” Allied officer Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) assembles a team of five tough Jewish soldiers to spread fear throughout the Third Reich. They have one assignment: assassinate Nazi leaders. Quentin Tarantino wrote and directed the unconventional war drama. Eli Roth, Melanie Laurent, and Christopher Walz co-star.
Watch the trailer of “Inglourious Basterds”:
The network is also streaming the original documentary “Mystery Unsolved: The Adnan Syed Story” on June 7. The murder of teenager Hae Min Lee was the focal point of a “Serial” podcast, which questioned if boyfriend Syed was her killer. After serving 22 years in prison, Syed was released, still proclaiming his innocence. Now, he may return.
Another streamer original, “Magic Carpet Rides,” arrives June 14. It centers on a social influencer torn between sharing her budding romance or honoring her boyfriend’s request to keep their life private.

Exclusive: Producer Janet Zucker has optioned the film rights to Cynthia Pelayo’s International Latino Book Award winner Children of Chicago for Zucker Productions, with producer Tony Eldridge (The Equalizer films) for Lonetree Entertainment.
The two-time Bram Stoker Award-nominated author’s horror novel is billed as a gripping, modern-day spin on the Pied Piper fairy tale, as well as a gritty love letter to the underbelly of Chicago. In it, Detective Lauren Medina’s latest call brings her to investigate a brutally murdered teenager in Humboldt Park―a crime eerily like her sister’s murder decades before. Unlike her strait-laced partner, she recognizes the crime, and the new graffiti popping up all over the city, as a message: the Pied Piper has returned, and debts shall be paid.

Part of the fun of watching “The Masked Singer” is making guesses as to the real identities of the celebrity contestants. We’ve been fans of the Frog ever since he appeared alongside the rest of Group B in episode 4. He is the last contender still standing of the six stars who started out in this group. He is competing on the May 20 final against the Night Angel and the Turtle for the Golden Mask.
Based on the clues he has given over the run of season 3 of “The Masked Singer,” we are absolutely certain that the Frog is rapper turned actor Bow Wow. Don’t believe us? Well then take a read of all the ways that the visual hints and quotes from the Frog fit with Bow Wow’s bio.
We’ve recapped his appearances in each episode of “The Masked Singer” including the songs he performed and their original artists.

Oscars buzz boosts UK box office and whether growling on a plane or voicing an animation, it's Liam Neeson's moment
• Review of The Lego Movie
• Review of Non-Stop
• More on the UK box office
The winner
Adding another £4.79m in the past seven days, The Lego Movie now stands at a sturdy £26.67m after three weeks of play. That puts it level with the lifetime tallies of blockbusters including Spider-Man 2 (£26.72m) and Ocean's Eleven (£26.47m), and ahead of fellow animations including Ratatouille (£24.80m) and Wall-e (£22.91m). The Lego Movie will pretty soon overtake the likes of Shrek (£29m) and A Bug's Life (£29.45m) and is clearly headed into the mid-30s (£m).
Although box office for The Lego Movie is certainly skewed to the weekend, its decent performance in the Monday-to-Thursday period suggests that it is picking up a true adult audience, rather than merely adult chaperones of children.

Be honest: every time you play the lottery, the same fantasy runs through your head, of you sitting in a bath full of champagne, wearing a top hat and monocle, and throwing wads of cash into the air gleefully. Before you’ve even left the shop, you’ve spent half the money that you’re almost definitely destined to win, no matter what the actual odds.
Feeding this fantasy is the many, many movies that have involved lottery wins, and the results for the winners. They are invariably everyman characters, just like you, who need an escape from the mediocrity of mundane life, and who see their universe changed entirely by the huge injection of cash brought when the right numbers come in.
Now more than ever, the experience of buying a ticket is even easier, so that dream can be fed without even needing to go to the shop,...

A couple of months back we heard that Eddie Murphy was in talks to reprise his iconic role as fast-talking cop Axel Foley -- not in a sequel or a remake, but rather, a brand new Beverly Hills Cop TV series. At the time, it was still being shopped around Hollywood, but since then we have learned that the show was picked up by CBS, who have ordered a pilot. The thing is, although Axel Foley will make occasional appearances, he won't be the star of the show. Instead, the story will revolve around his son Aaron, who also happens to be a cop and conveniently decides to move to Beverly Hills. Now we have the inside scoop on who might play Foley's son and it looks like it could be Tropic Thunder star Brandon T. Jackson. The news comes courtesy of a site called Humor Mill, and although I'm not too familiar with it,...

CBS is looking to cast character actor Brandon T. Jackson in the lead role of their small screen adaptation of Beverly Hills Cop. Jackson has had roles in several films that include Tropic Thunder, Lottery Ticket, Fast & Furious Percy Jackson; Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son and more.
Jackson would play Aaron, the son of Eddie Murphy's character Axel Foley. Murphy is also planning to reprise his original role in a guest-star capacity. His son would be the main focus of the series, helping take down the criminal elements of the rich and famous in Beverly Hills while trying to escape the shadow of his larger-than-life father.
The series is being developed by The Shield creator Shawn Ryan, and like the film, the series will be a mix of action and comedy. I think Jackson is a solid choice to take on the role, what do you think?

Flicking through my encyclopaedia-sized driving theory book, I'm forever cursing not having the opportunity to try for a driving licence earlier in my life. Put it down to lack of funds or too much work – the downsides of being an incompetent fool are all too obvious when it comes to getting around. Take public transport, in which hapless masses are forced to pay eye-watering amounts for services so shoddy, a horse and cart could get you from A to B in quicker time.
What's worse is that those who wield almighty power in the public transport domain seem possessed by the worst sort of misanthropic gloom, so much so, that it's easy to think that wholesale grumpiness is a vital prerequisite for the job. Take travelling by bus – a joyless experience at the best of times, but more often than not, the driver in charge will respond to your cheery...

Ever since Bing Crosby starred in the 1930 film "King of Jazz," countless musicians have tried, with varying degrees of success, to parlay their musical ability into a side career in film.
The following list -- dug up in honor of this Sunday's Video Music Awards on MTV -- is proof that not all musicians are created equal when it comes to their acting abilities.
For every Mariah Carey in "Precious," you can find a Mariah Carey in "Glitter," but these 40 artists have shown that they can, at least some of the time, create memorable roles and transcend their musical careers. Sometimes, they even win Oscars.
40. Madonna
During the nascent years of MTV, no female artist had more influence visually than the Material Girl, whose mix of eye-popping fantasy and gritty urban realism videos continue to influence a generation of vocalists. Despite a Best Actress Golden Globe for 1996's "Evita," the...

Actress Teairra Mari was arrested in Los Angeles on Friday morning for allegedly attacking a police officer.
The pretty star, who appeared opposite rapper Bow Wow in last year's Lottery Ticket film, lashed out while she was being arrested for a DUI, according to TMZ.com.
The officer noticed "signs of intoxication" as he quizzed the 23 year old after she had rear-ended a car on her way home from a night out.
The police report suggests Mari became "combative" with the arresting officer, who suffered a minor cut to his hand during the incident.
Mari now faces multiple charges, including DUI and assault on a police officer.
At press time the actress was still in police custody.

[1] A couple of bits of interesting but as-yet-unconfirmed casting news have cropped up this weekend. One concerns Naturi Naughton, star of NBC's upcoming series The Playboy Club, who may be joining forces with Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine; the other, frequent Adam Sandler collaborator Kevin James, who could be working with director Charlie Kaufman in Frank or Francis. More details on both projects after the jump. Let's start with Naughton. A new rumor has surfaced suggesting that Naughton has signed on to play Cecilia Reyes in The Wolverine, directed by James Mangold. The character is a Puerto Rican woman from the Bronx (yeah NYC!) with the mutant ability to generate force fields. Though Reyes has been part of the X-Men team in the past, her true calling lies in medicine -- she's an accomplished trauma surgeon. Naughton is best known for being one-third of R&B group 3Lw, but has...

Rapper Bow Wow has revealed that he's a new father.
The 24-year-old hip-hop artist and actor ("Lottery Ticket," "Entourage") says in a "fan letter" on his website that he has a baby girl, Shai. He had previously denied reports that he and ex-girlfriend Joie Chavis had a child together, but he's coming clean now.
"I waited so long to tell yall the truth because I was nervous on how yall would look at me," Bow Wow writes. "Yall know everyone makes a big deal out of everything I do. I wanted to be 1st n let yall know the real. My lil girl is getting Big fast. I love every minute of it."
He credits his daughter for having "made me into a man overnight" and even says he had considered taking his own life until Shai was born. He also says he won't be posting any pictures of her.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released its annual list of invited new members, and it’s clear they’re continuing to try to make their membership younger. On the list alongside veterans like John Hawkes and David Duchovny are a slew of twentysomethings, including Mia Wasikowska, Ellen Page, Jesse Eisenberg, Mila Kunis, Beyonce Knowles, Jennifer Lawrence, and Rooney Mara. The Board of Governors also decided to extend an invitation to Restrepo codirector Tim Hetherington, the first time Academy membership has been bestowed posthumously. As a side note, it’s also a hoot to now say the phrase Oscar voter Russell Brand.

Beverly Hills, CA . The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 178 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. Those who accept the invitation will be the only additions in 2011 to the Academy.s roster of members.
.These individuals are among the best filmmakers working in the industry today,. said Academy President Tom Sherak. .Their talent and creativity have entertained moviegoers around the world, and I welcome each of them to our ranks..
The Academy.s membership policies would have allowed a maximum of 211 new members in 2011, but as in other recent years, several branch committees endorsed fewer candidates than were proposed to them. Voting membership in the organization has now held steady at just under 6,000 members since 2003.
In an unprecedented gesture, the list of new members includes documentary filmmaker Tim Hetherington, who was killed in action in Libya in April.

Is there any film better than Ed Zwick’s 1989 film Glory, about the founding of legendary Massachusetts 54th Colored Union Regiment? I can’t imagine seeing how anyone isn’t be moved by the film; A film that was extremely difficult to make back then, and would be impossible today. (But we do have Lottery Ticket if that’s any consolation). Here’s the classic scene from the film when the soldiers gather together the night before the major battle.

Raptor Bow Wow (aka Shad Moss) will star in a new TV sitcom produced by Ice Cube and scored by Jermaine Dupri, who Bow Wow personally recruited for the project, with the intent being to replicate the success Will Smith and Quincy Jones enjoyed in the 1990s with The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

He wouldn’t reveal plot details, but admits that the series is still in its early stages of development and that they are currently searching for writers to pen the script, and “Once we get that, we will have a name and we will definitely be filming this year,...

Billie Holiday would have celebrated 96 today. Her melodic voice can be heard on a lengthy list of film soundtracks including Schinder’s List, Slaves Of New York, Harlem Nights, Watchmen, Angela’s Ashes, The Green Mile, August Rush, The West Wing , The Notebook , Sex In The City and Capote. The films she acted in are The Emperor Jones and New Orleans.
Actor and comedian Bill Bellamy turns 46 today. He started his career as a stand-up comic and parlayed that into a hosting gig at MTV Jams. Love Jones and How To Be A Player are probably his most memorable films. He’s also appeared in Any Given Sunday, The Brothers, Royal Pains, Lottery Ticket and was the voice of Skeeter on Cousin Skeeter.

Flashback FridayCelebrating Black Films of 1991For Black films, 1991 was big year. There are a number of all Black films that left memorable impressions on us as well inspired a generation to act. Twenty years later, it's without a doubt these films left a cultural footprint bigger than anyone expected. If it wasn't tackling issues of racism or urban drug trade, the films released in 1991 made brave choices to examine interracial relationships or the detriments of revenge. None of these films would have been possible without the talents of our favorite Black actors and actresses. Today, we're taking a walk down memory lane to remember the films of 1991 and find out where everyone is now.New Jack CityReleased: March 8, 1991 'New Jack City,' was based on the original story and screenplay written by Thomas Lee Wright, and became the prototype for a Black crime drama. The rapper and actor is only 24 years old, but when you sign your first recording deal at age 11 and drop your debut album at 13, you can cram in a pretty full career by your mid 20s.
Bow Wow was first introduced to the music world as Lil Bow Wow. He was rapping as early as age six, using the name Kid Gangsta and busting out relatively hardcore rhymes for a child. It's said, possibly apocryphally (which is a fancy way of saying that it's a clever lie about the past), that when William Gibson saw Blade Runner in the theater, he left halfway through and had a nervous breakdown in the street because the images he saw on the screen were the same as the ones he was seeing in his head while writing the half-finished Neuromancer. Somehow I doubt that he'd have the same reaction to whatever comes out the recent rumors of a remake/reboot/TV series/game show/tentacle fest that is currently in the works for Blade Runner.

Ugh. Alcon Entertainment, the company behind The Blind Side, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants films, and Lottery Ticket are securing rights to produce prequels and sequels to Ridley Scott‘s 1982 masterpiece Blade Runner. There is slightly less reason to worry, as the Warner Bros-based company are legally prohibited to actually create a direct reboot of the film. There are only allowed to “produce projects based on situations introduced in the original film.” I’m sure they could find a way around this as that definition seems loose.
This news comes after watching Blade Runner twice on Blu-ray yesterday. The Harrison Ford-starring sci-fi flick still looks gorgeous today and I can’t imagine someone other than Scott continuing the property. The producers, who are also picking up television and ancillary rights, have “long-term goals for the franchise, and are exploring multi-platform concepts, not just limiting ourselves to one medium only.

It’s been leaked that there’s going to be a special tribute to Lena Horne at this Sunday’s Oscar Show, which will be presented by Halle Berry (and I Still hold to what I said about her recently, that men lust after her and women hate her bloody guts).
And for those of you who wish it could have been someone else to do the tribute, just be happy it’s not Bey Bey doing it, stumbling through it with her country ass accent.
However one can argue that this might be a last minute addition by the Academy to calm down some of the criticism that there were no black nominees this year.
Yeah right, those actors in Lottery Ticket sure got robbed didn’t they?...
