An eight-year-old boy is thought to be a lazy trouble-maker, until the new art teacher has the patience and compassion to discover the real problem behind his struggles in school.
Bhatia and Gupte worked with dyslexic children to research and develop the screenplay, basing characters and situations on their observations. They carefully concealed the children's identities in the final version of the script.

While Ishaan's parents are driving home, after receiving his poor academic report, his mother laments "I teach him myself. All day it's 'Ishaan! Ishaan! Ishaan!'". But, when she says the third "Ishaan" word, her lips are closed.
A thankful message is displayed at the end before closing credits, which reads, "Thanks to all those children, parents and teachers, who shared their lives with us and opened windows for us to see clearly".
