In a highly competitive world, it is rare to witness someone appreciate your work in the field of entertainment, unless there is some connection of sorts or a benefit coming your way. However, when some out there stand up and notice, acknowledge and even cheer aloud without any ulterior motive into play, it is indeed a special feeling.
This is what thrilled the makers of upcoming flick Bollywood Diaries when people as diverse as Remo D’Souza and Sudhir Mishra began to spread the good word. This, despite no direct connect with either the film or the ones (Raima Sen, Ashish Vidyarthi and debutant Salim Diwan) featuring in the film.
Confirms an insider, “The moment the Bollywood Diaries promo was unveiled, it was noticed by one and all for its truly ‘hatke’ content as well as the impressive cast which is known to perform. While congratulatory messages did start coming...

We have now reached the final episodes of the Blind Auditions on The Voice India. The episodes opened with a quick re-cap of the chosen contestants and a look at the forthcoming contestants. Coach Sunidhi only had 3 spaces left in her team, coach Shaan also had 3, while coaches Hr and Mika had just 2 spaces left in their team.
The first contestant was Deepak Malik. Deepak is 21 years old and is from New Delhi. Deepak sang the song ‘Allah Waariyan’ from Yaariyan. Coach Hr was the first to buzz, followed by coaches Mika and Shaan. Coach Sunidhi did not hit the buzzer this time. After much competition between the three coaches and our Hr’s infamous countdown, Deepak chose to be in team Mika! Our favourite coach Hr, was quite disappointed considering that he gave Deepak a ‘Mohabbat ka Vaasta’ (blessings for his ‘love’)! The second contestant was Mohit Pathak. Mohit...

I’ll preface this review with an admission: I played the clarinet in the school band for about two years, so you can understand why I fell so hard for the Bombay Velvet soundtrack as a band nerd. Anurag Kashyap’s magnum opus takes the audience to 1960s Bombay, which is emerging as a metropolis that’s teeming with gangsters, film journalists, femme fatales, and underdogs. Kashyap recruited Amit Trivedi for this fantastic album, that’s as nuanced as it is danceable. Trivedi teamed up with The City of Prague Big Band, and Mickey McCleary for the album that merges jazz standards, classic Bollywood, and swing with such seamless ease.
The album starts off with the rollicking, Aam Hindustani, a 9-minute gem that hooks you in with a terrific prelude. From the opening clarinets that segue into the madcap horns and trumpets, Trivedi goes for the carnival-esque sound that would...

L ipstick Under My Burkha is one of the twenty-three films selected for the co- production market of Film Bazaar 2013. We spoke to the director Alankrita Shrivastava:
Alankrita Shrivastava
Tell us about your project. What language will it be in?
Set in the crowded bylanes of small town India, Lipstick Under My Burkha (Lipstick Waale Sapne) chronicles the secret lives of four women who dream small dreams of freedom.
Dodging prying eyes, battling fear, they go about their days, reading what they shouldn’t be, singing what they shouldn’t be, feeling what they shouldn’t be and wanting what they shouldn’t be wanting. Through the colourful kaleidoscope of their world, we see these women secretly trying to live a little of their small lipstick dreams. In essence the film is about their search for freedom. Through the four stories, I want to dig deep into what it means to be a woman.

That would be like suicide for me because I am inviting people to compare me to her. Rarely people will make favourable comment. The idea is to do something new and fresh. Bejoy Nambiar’s Shaitan is a perennial favourite album of mine, his latest film David, a Tamil and Hindi bilingual features the music from a whopping 8 composers. Shaitan collaborators Prashant Pillai, and Mikey McCleary, along with Bramafatura, Maatibaani, Remo Fernandes, Modern Mafia, Anirudh Ravichander, and Saurabh Roy contribute to the wildly eclectic and amazing album that surprises with its innovation and addictiveness. David spans three decades, with three different Davids played by Neil Nitin Mukesh, Vinay Virmani, and Vikram dealing with their trials and tribulations. It’s an album that works on a conceptual level as well as complementing the narrative of this interesting film. It also happens to be on my most played this week!
We start with Bramafatura’s fantastic track, Ghum Huye (The Theme of David), which is an interesting atmospheric track that hooks you in with its trance beats. Mark Fulgado and Gaurav Godkhindi are the duo behind Bramafatura,...

The acclaimed filmmaker is known for projects like "Chameli", "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" and "Khoya Khoya Chand". He doesn't mind the mixed reviews to "Inkaar", which delves into the subject of sexual harrassment at workplace.

Anu Malik on the phenomenon of incorporating old songs in today's films by paying hefty rights Let me tell you that I would love to re-create a song myself. But the older song too should be mine! I do not want to depend on someone else's work! I think that the trend of officially incorporating old songs in today's films, on the positive side, speaks very highly of our past composers and frankly, even my generation. It shows that Shankar-Jaikishan, Kalyanji-Anandji, R.D.Burman, Laxmikant-Pyarelal and others were 100 years ahead of their times and of today's music directors! It proves that they composed timeless melodies that people still want to hear today, albeit with new sound production. And why not? Who does not like solid songs? The new generation has not heard these songs and when they do, they generally love them. The money spent on acquiring these songs are...

For someone who has worked with Sudhir Mishra in two films now (with Tera Kya Hoga Johnny coming after Khoya Khoya Chand), Soha believes that the film maker (who shot to fame decades back with Dharavi and later Is Raat Ki Subah Nahi) has a knack of extracting wonderful performances from relatively new actors. "I have always heard him saying that he likes working with new faces and bringing to fore an altogether fresh perspective of story telling", says Soha, "In my case also...

The theme of a film within a film or a film based on the film industry has nothing new to offer. Farah Khan did that with great aplomb in Om Shanti Om. Zoya Akhtar's maiden venture, Luck By Chance failed to click with the audience despite garnering rave reviews. Sudhir Mishra's Khoya Khoya Chand was a major disappointment. Even Umesh Shukla's Dhoondte Reh Jaoge proved to be a futile attempt. Now, the director of Godmother...

Aadesh Shrivastava, who has had the good luck to meet Rafi and play on his songs under several senior composers, puts it simply, "Every song I compose has Kishoreda's feel and Rafisaab's gaayaki somewhere within my subconscious mind. And by gaayaki I mean his sharp harkatein, which would be as sharp as the edge of a sword, and everything else." Aadesh adds, "If you say Mora piya has that ambience, I agree completely. And my semi-classical Baawri piya ki (Baghban) was made with him in mind - 101 per cent! Ravi Chopra, my director, and I discussed this song and we kept saying, 'Kaash! Agar yeh gaana Rafisaab gaate!', though Sonu Niigaam was brilliant. The song in my mind's eye when I composed this one was Tu Ganga ki mauj from Baiju Bawra. Whenever Rafisaab would go high-pitched in a song and take a sapaat (broad) taan, incredibly his expression...

When Soha Ali Khan and Shiney Ahuja were spotted shooting together in Goa earlier there were some quizzical eyebrows.
Why were they shooting a film together, but tight lipped about the nature of the project?
No one remembered any announcements of any film featuring the pair after Sudhir Mishra’s Khoya Khoya Chand.
But believe it or not, Soha and Shiney are back together for a film produced by Pritish Nandy Communications that’s currently being shot in complete secrecy in Goa.But they are not supposed to say a word about it.
When asked about it the Pnc head honcho Pritish.
