Perhaps the most harrowing thing in Tantura, a striking documentary from Alon Schwarz, is the nervous laughter that slips out of the mouths of old men allegedly complicit in a massacre decades earlier. They snicker and smirk at the suggestion of their malice, either convinced they were justified or blinded by their own lies. It’s a brutally human reaction that is deeply unsettling to absorb. War allows for the rationalization of evil. And the banality that often follows appears to be an act of denial. As Schwarz and his collaborators present the evidence of the eradication of the Palestinian village Tantura by Alexandroni soldiers (an Israel Defense Forces brigade), this all becomes quite clear.
In 1948, following the controversial approval of The United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine in 1947, war broke out between Arab and Jewish factions, both claiming a right to the same land. Of course, the Arab villages...

Earlier, Sundance announced that its 2022 edition will be hybrid. Most titles will be available online while their in-person festivities start up again in Park City. Their main slate has just gone live as well. Though the festival has a tendency to update their lineup as the festivities grow closer, their competition categories have at least been set in stone.
Naturally, we compiled all of the Asian and Asian diaspora-directed ones we could find so far. Like last year, most Asian titles tend to be in the documentaries. In the World Cinema Documentary Competition, at least 4 entries span from different corners of the continent: India (“All That Breathes”), Myanmar (“Midwives”), Lebanon (“Sirens”), and Israel (“Tantura”). 4 entries revolving around or by Asian diaspora filmmakers make their mark in the US Documentary Competition as well. “Free Chol Soo Lee”, “Jihad Rehab”, “Tiktok.Boom” and “The Exiles” cover fex-Al-Queda extremists, Tiananmen Square exiles, a wrongly-convicted Korean immigrant,...

Brenda Song has been acting in television and films since she was a young girl. Her early career included roles in such popular films as Stuck In the Suburbs, College Road Trip and The Social Network. But her most notable role was as London Tipton on the popular Disney Channel series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. Her career making role as a ditsy hotel heiress was a fan favorite. However, in a new in-depth interview with Teen Vogue, Brenda recalled that when it came time for the hit 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians to audition Hollywood's best and brightest Asian-American actors, she was denied an opportunity for an incredibly demeaning reason. "To be just a part of that...

The only thing Raven-Symoné dislikes more than being labeled is being misquoted. During a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey for Own's Where Are They Now?, the College Road Trip star said she was sick of "being labeled," particularly in regard to her sexual orientation and her race. "I'm an American," the actress told a shocked Winfrey. "I'm not an African American; I'm an American." "Oh, girl," Winfrey said. "Don't set up Twitter on fire...Oh, my lord. What did you just say?" The actress replied, "I mean, I don't know where my roots go to. I don't know how far back they go...I don't know what country in Africa I'm from, but I do...

One more celeb and this purple-gray hair color combo is officially a trend. Raven-Symoné is the latest star to try the multicolored effect. The former Disney-darling ditched her dark shade in favor of a candy-colored hue on the heels of Demi Lovato, who went for a similar dye job last week. It seems that the College Road Trip star's vibrant new 'do is in preparation of her return to campus—this time as an actual student. Raven posted an Instagram picture of her new hair last week, writing, "My last Friday in La before I start my life as a #oncampus student! New hair for a new life! #hellyea." In another post of her new hair, the star described her "bomb color and cut" as a...

The screenplay from Landon is based on Lona Williams (“Drop Dead Gorgeous,” “The Drew Carey Show”) and Etan Cohen’s (“Men In Black 3,” “Tropic Thunder”) draft of an original script from Emi Mochizuki & Carrie Evans (“College Road Trip”). After starring in critically acclaimed indies like Mud with Matthew McConaughey and Joe with Nicolas Cage, young actor Tye Sheridan is getting a big studio movie of his own. THR reports the breakout star will take the lead role in Scouts vs. Zombies, the horror comedy taken over by Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones director Christopher Landon last fall. The film follows three high school Boy Scouts who must use their skills to fight off zombies after their small town begins getting ravaged by the undead. But there's also a great coming-of-age angle, so this isn't a weak version of Shaun of the Dead with some boy scouts. Sheridan's character is a budding honors student who is handsome and athletic but doesn't know it yet, as he is shy to talk to the girl he likes. Surely his bravery in facing zombies will help bring out his confidence. The original...

Over three years ago, we learned that Race to Witch Mountain director Andy Fickman was going to take on a horror comedy called Boy Scouts vs. Zombies. Though the concept, which is obvious from the title, sounded great, having Fickman directing with a script from College Road Trip writers Carrie Evans & Emi Mochizuki sounded like a disaster. But now Deadline reports Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones director Christopher Landon will now direct the film, and he'll be making a pass on the script himself, following a new rewrite from Lona Williams (Drop Dead Gorgeous) and Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder). The script made the Black List awhile back, so maybe it's better than Evans & Mochizuki's previous work. And with rewrites from the aforementioned scribes, it's likely only gotten better. As for Landon's skill on the page, he wrote Paranormal Activity 3 and Paranormal Activity 4, and while the third one had some great elements,...

After delivering scripts for high profile movies like Tropic Thunder and Men in Black 3, writer Etan Cohen is ready to make his directorial debut. Originally, Cohen was supposed to be at the helm of Boy Scouts vs. Zombies, a project from College Road Trip writers Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki that made the Black List in 2010. But now THR reports Cohen will be at the helm of Get Hard, a comedy that follows Will Ferrell (also producing with Adam McKay through their Gary Sanchez banner) as a rich, soft-handed investment bank manager who is sentenced to a maximum security prison for a crime he didn’t commit. So with 30 days until he has to report to prison, he hires a streewise guy (Kevin Hart), who normally washes his car, to prepare him for the trials and tribulations of life in the big house. Personally, I wish it was someone...

Exclusive: It’s good that Will Sasso has landed the title role in a movie, but I’m led to wonder why so many film companies press forward with naughty titles knowing full well they will never make it to the screen because newspapers and TV can’t run the advertising. Sasso, most recently seen as Curly in the Farrelly Brothers-directed The Three Stooges, has signed to star opposite David Koechner in director Andrew Currie’s suburban comedy feature My Asshole Neighbor. Sasso will portray Jerry, a loud, rude redneck who moves next door to a professional mediator Paul (Koechner), turning his world upside down. Once his private little patch of peaceful suburbia is invaded, the usually peace-loving Paul finds himself waging war on Jerry — which ultimately begs the questions, who’s really the asshole, and which sphincter will prevail? Produced by Mary Anne Waterhouse, the film will shoot mid-August in Vancouver.

Zombie-survival is the newest merit badge! Back in December of 2010, we shared the news with you about Paramount Pictures picking up a horror/comedy titled Boy Scouts vs. Zombies, written by College Road Trip scribes Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki.
Now, THR reports that Etan Cohen is in negotiations to direct this Goonies-esque project. Cohen, best known for his writing in comedy with such films as Tropic Thunder and Idiocracy, will make his directorial debut with this story about a Boy Scout troop endeavoring to save a girl scout troop from a zombie outbreak.
Boy Scouts vs. Zombies will be produced by Andy Fickman and Betsy Sullenger of Oops Doughnuts Productions and Todd Garner of Broken Road Productions, and Bryan Brucks of Brucks Entertainment with Sean Robins of Broken Road executive producing. Lona Williams (Drop Dead Gorgeous) will be crafting a new draft of the script under Cohen’s keen comedic eye.

There seem to be a lot of comedy writers making the jump to directing as of late, and I guess as long as they are mainly directing comedies, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Screenwriters probably have the best grasp of the comedic timing and the intended tone of a film that they wrote, and generally speaking, comedies don't usually require a lot of visual style or skill behind the camera. However, this week it looks like Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen will be taking on something a little bit different for his directorial debut: a horror-comedy for Paramount called Boy Scouts vs. Zombies. Yep, another genre mash-up with "vs." in the title... do I really need to say anything more? According to Heat Vision, the script is not actually one that Cohen wrote himself. Penned by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki (College Road Trip), it made the 2010 Black List...

Just when you thought Hollywood’s zombie love-fest couldn’t get any more surreal, along comes Boy Scouts vs. Zombies. According to THR, Etan Cohen, best known for screenwriting Tropic Thunder and Men in Black III, has been hired to make his directorial debut on the self-described Goonies inspired horror comedy. Several months back it was reported that Paramount had acquired rights to this 2010 Black List screenplay, penned by the writers of College Road Trip - Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki.

Screenwriter Etan Cohen has spent the past few years co-writing comedies like Tropic Thunder and Idiocracy as well as taking a turn on the script for Men in Black III. Now he's ready to make his directorial debut.
THR reports that Cohen is in negotiations to direct the horror-comedy Boy Scouts vs. Zombies, which has a plot that sounds exactly like the title suggests, with a boy scout troop trying to save a group of girl scouts from zombies.
The script, written by College Road Trip screenwriters Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki, was on the 2010 Black List of Hollywood's most-liked — but unproduced — screenplays. Cohen is going to supervise a new draft from Lona Williams (Drop Dead Gorgeous). Andy Fickman (You Again) was previously attached to direct, but will now produce the movie for Paramount Pictures, who will distribute once the movie is finished.

If you visit Etan Cohen's IMDb page, it kindly reminds you that this man is not to be confused with another screenwriter, Ethan Cohen. Well good, we're glad that's cleared up, otherwise we might have been forced to come up with another lazy gag about them being different people. The page may need to be amended slightly now though, as not only is Etan Cohen a screenwriter, but he's set to become a fully fledged director too after signing on to helm "Boy Scouts vs. Zombies."
Cohen is perhaps best known for writing "Tropic Thunder" and for being one of the many contributors to "Men In Black III." If 'Ninjas vs. Zombies' didn't grab you. If 'Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies' seems a little out there. And if 'Cockneys vs Zombies' just isn't going to be your cup of tea. Then why not try Paramount's 'Boy Scouts vs. Zombies'? Yes it seems just about anyone can go up against the undead these days and it appears that 'Men in Black III' and 'Madagascar 2' scribe Etan Cohen is in negotiations to make his directorial debut with the new horror-comedy for the studio. Cohen would helm from a script penned by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki ('College Road Trip') which would mark his first feature as director. Lona Williams ('Drop Dead Gorgeous') has been tapped to provide a redraft. So I wonder how many Boy Scout woodland skills will be utilised in offing the dead? Whatever happens this does sound like one hell of a good project.

Deadline reports that Paramount has acquired the rights to Boy Scouts Vs. Zombies. The Black List script is penned by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki who are two graduates of the Disney Writing Program who also scripted College Road Trip. The script follows the same path as Goonies and tells the story of a local boy scout troop that must save the local girl scout troop from a zombie outbreak on an overnight camping trip. Todd Garner's Broken Road will be producing the movie along with Oops Doughnuts partners Andy Fickman and Betsy Sullenger, and Bryan Brucks' Brucks Entertainment with Sean Robins executive producing. A screenplays on The Black List can mean some green. Days after the new list was revealed by Deadline, two scripts have found homes; Vendome Pictures has just committed to finance What Happened To Monday?, a futuristic thriller by Max Botkin that was developed by Raffaella Productions. The script follows the story of identical septuplet brothers who struggle to stay alive in an overpopulated world where a "one child" policy outlaws siblings. Raffaella De Laurentiis and Vendome's Philippe Rousselet are producing. Vendome financed the Summit release Source Code and the Tom Hanks-directed Larry Crowne, which gets released by Universal July 1, 2011 with Hanks, Julia Roberts and Bryan Cranston starring. CAA and Eml Entertainment rep Botkin. Paramount Pictures has acquired Boy Scouts Vs. Zombies, a Black List script by Carrie Evans & Emi Mochizuki, two graduates of the Disney Writing Program who also scripted College Road Trip. The film is being produced...

As if being a boy scout wasn't creepy enough...
Not much to go on here, but Production Weekly has offered the following info on an upcoming zombie movie.
Andy Fickman is attached to direct the horror/comedy spec "Boy Scouts vs. Zombies" written by Carrie Evans & Emi Mochizuki.
Fickman's previous efforts include The Race to Witch Mountain and the upcoming You Again with Kristen Bell and Jamie Lee Curtis, while the writers wrote College Road Trip. Yeesh.
However, the concept, which is indicated by the title, could prove to be a fun time. Is there a merit badge for killing a zombie?

Thus far we've had everything you can imagine "vs. Zombies" -- Aliens, Ninjas, hell, even Plants (well, especially Plants; that game rawks!). So the question beckons ... why not give the Boy Scouts a chance?
According to Production Weekly Andy Fickman is attached to direct the horror/comedy spec Boy Scouts vs. Zombies written by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki.
The details were slim, but as the title suggests, it looks like we're in for a crazy film in the vein of your standard horror comedy with a kid friendly twist. Evans and Mochizuki also penned College Road Trip with Martin Lawrence, while Fickman directed Race to Witch Mountain and is currently developing I Walked with a Zombie and The Body Snatcher.

Director Andy Fickman ("You Again," "The Game Plan") is set to helm the horror comedy "Boy Scouts vs. Zombies" according to Production Weekly.
"College Road Trip" writers Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki penned the script but the plot is being kept under wraps. The title though gives us an idea of the premise.
Fickman signed onto direct the Anna Faris comedy "Tmi" last week, no word as yet where either film will fit in his schedule.

Earlier this year we were given the treat of seeing the amazing fight fest that was Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, but another battle of epic proportions is on the way. Production Weekly announced (via Twitter) that Andy Fickman (Race to Witch Mountain) will direct the horror comedy Boy Scouts vs Zombies. The film comes from a spec script by writers Carrie Evans & Emi Mochizuki (the duo behind College Road Trip). Honestly, when this title first came up the concept sounded so outrageous and off-the-wall that I couldn't help but be intrigued. However, with these family fare filmmakers behind it, I'm not too thrilled. I suppose there's always a chance that Fickman and the writing team of Evans and Mochizuki could have used family friendly films to get their foot in the door to make a film that they were really passionate about, but somehow I doubt it. The writers...

Chalk up another one of those projects that emerges from the depths of Hollywood coughing and spluttering, without a plot detail to its name: Andy Fickman, who directed The Game Plan and Race to Witch Mountain, has signed on to direct Boy Scouts vs. Zombies.Production Weekly tweeted about the project, which as of right now exists largely as a comedy/horror spec script written by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki. The writers have just one credit to their name so far: 2008’s Martin Lawrence comedy College Road Trip. While, as mentioned above, there’s very little else on record about the likely movie just yet, the mere title alone promises bloody, scout-terrorising fun. Wonder if there’s a proficiency badge for zombie slaying? And, let’s face it: anyone who has ever been a cub or a scout knows there are far worse things that you can experience at camp* than flesh-feasting undead types.

Production Weekly is reporting that director Andy Fickman (Race to Witch Mountain/The Game Plan) will be directing a film called Boy Scouts Vs. Zombies! I don't care who directs the title of the film has completely sold me on the idea.
Unfortunately there isn't a lot of information that's been released on the film, but it's a high concept title that's based on a horror comedy spec script by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki, who are the two of individuals behind the 2008 film College Road Trip.
I don't see how you can go wrong with a group of Boy Scouts taking on a horde of brain eating zombies, this could be a hell of a fun movie!
What to you all think?...

Andy Fickman has signed on to direct Boy Scouts vs. Zombies , according to a Tweet from Production Weekly . Little is known about the project aside from its high concept title and that it is based on a horror comedy spec script from Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki, two of the names behind 2008's College Road Trip . Fickman, the director of next week's You Again reportedly signed on for the Anna Faris comedy Tmi just days ago . It is unknown which of the two project will move forward first.

Even though the man is attached to a number of projects, why not add one more to the pile? Race to Witch Mountain director Andy Fickman is reportedly attached to helm Boy Scouts vs. Zombies , presumably a horror-comedy. Production Weekly broke the news, however, did not add the production outfit behind the film. What we do know is Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki scripted; they're the duo behind College Road Trip with Martin Lawrence. Fickman is also developing Johnny Question , Tmi and remakes of I Walked With a Zombie and The Body Snatcher .

The Last Song: "What does this have to do with The Last Song? Only this: Miley Cyrus is one of those socioeconomically pretty people. She thinks she's pretty; she thinks she's talented; and she thinks it so much, and with so much arrogance, that she's convinced millions of others that she is those things. Do I feel terrible for saying that? Yes. But it's true. And the world is eventually going to chip away at her confidence and expose her for what she is. That's how drug-addicted former child stars are born. And when it happens, I'm probably going to feel bad about it. Because my assholery only extends to successful people." - Dustin Rowles

"The Sopranos" star Joseph R. Gannascoli was arrested on early Friday, June 18 in Tampa Bay, Florida. The 51-year-old actor had to deal with the authority for suspicion of driving under the influence after police officers pulled him over at 2.24 A.M. local time.
The police officers pulled Gannascoli over after he made a wide turn and proceeded to drive on the lane marker. And as they could smell alcohol on Gannascoli's breath and revealed that the actor's eyes were bloodshot, watery, and his speech was slurred, they issued a field sobriety test.
Gannascoli flunked the test and he also blew a .111 on a Breathalyzer, well above Florida's legal limit of .08. The officer later detained the "College Road Trip" actor, who at that time drove his 2010 Dodge, for suspicion of DUI.
Gannascoli was then released from Hillsborough County jail after posting $500 bond, Daily Mail reported. On whether or not he has...

A few months ago, we discussed Brendan Fraser's inherent ability to react to CGI-accentuated figments of his imagination. Interestingly, Fraser has actually improved upon this talent but now gamely abandons all pride in what amounts to a most shameful entry into the already inauspicious (and entirely non-official) "rodents of doom" subgenre (see also Alvin and the Motherfucking Chipmunks and G-Force) of live-action/CGI family-friendly flicks. Furry Vengeance comes from the do-gooders at Participant Media, the makers of Food, Inc. and The Cove, who are ill-equipped in the art of narrative framework but have plenty of righteous indignation with which to justify their endless montage. Unfortunately, the movie's message never comes through and is buried under a mountain of sadistic pratfalls and humiliations for its lead actor. Yet, in its own strange, surrealistic sort of way, Furry Vengeance results in the slightest bit of voyeuristic pleasure since I, too, would...

The spring boxoffice season's final weekend matches an R-rated horror pic against a family-friendly comedy as Warner Bros. debuts the remake of "A Nightmare on Elm Street," and Summit Entertainment bows "Furry Vengeance."
"Nightmare" is sure to top the session, with solid tracking indicating prospects of scaring up as much as $30 million through Sunday. So that leaves the PG-rated "Vengeance" to duke it out with DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train Your Dragon" in the competition for the frame's other two medal positions.
"Dragon" has mounted a leggier run than expected, running north of $180 million, and the Paramount-distributed adventure looks likely to fetch low-teen millions in its sixth domestic session playing in a mix of 2D and 3D auditoriums. The film has rung up more than 60% of its theatrical coin in 3D venues each weekend.
Imax venues have offered the richest vein of 3D loot for "Dragon." Family moviegoers have been its chief base of support.

Illumination Entertainment and Universal have unleashed a new international poster for their upcoming animated movie Despicable Me.
In a happy suburban neighborhood surrounded by white picket fences with flowering rose bushes, sits a black house with a dead lawn. Unbeknownst to the neighbors, hidden beneath this home is a vast secret hideout. Surrounded by a small army of minions, we discover Gru (voiced by Steve Carell), planning the biggest heist in the history of the world. He is going to steal the moon (Yes, the moon!) in Universal’s new 3-D CGI feature, “Despicable Me.”
Gru delights in all things wicked. Armed with his arsenal of shrink rays, freeze rays, and battle-ready vehicles for land and air, he vanquishes all who stand in his way. Until the day he encounters the immense will of three little orphaned girls who look at him and see something that no one else has ever seen: a potential Dad.
