A splinter group of Roman soldiers fight for their lives behind enemy lines after their legion is devastated in a guerrilla attack.
The Roman centurions' armor was made out of fiberglass.
Centurion Quintus Dias:
My name is Quintus Dias. I am a soldier of Rome, and this is neither the beginning nor the end of my story.
Quintus Dias refers to the fort he is stationed at the beginning of the movie as Inchtuthil, the modern name of the site, where as in roman time it would have been referred to as pinnata castra and according to the archaeological data the fort was left at about 86 AD.
The end of the closing credits state that "This film is based on a 2000 year-old legend", referring to the mysterious disappearance of the Ninth Hispana or Ninth Spanish Legion in Roman-occupied Britain around 117 CE.
