| Horatio Alger on steroids
While this is a good PBS sort of "documentary" about Cambodian refugees, it's simply a simple rags to riches propaganda narrative designed to shame poor people to bootstrap themselves even more.

While politics shouldn't have a place in film review/discussions, it struck me that this is the central tenet/thesis of Horatio Alger "rags to riches" immigrant bootstrapping brainwashing.

Look at the filmmakers and then read how Alice Gu is getting deals with the film industry establishment to further promulgate such newspeak.

Asians and immigrants don't need more of this type of model minority myth, but more of the pandemic suffering and poor immigrants barely scraping by and completely ignored by the establishment.
