The corporation's name is Benthic which refers to the lowest ecological level of a body of water.

"General" Horne played by SyFy movie regular Eric Roberts is allegedly a member of the New Zealand Coast Guard. In reality, general officers commonly exist in Air Forces, Armies and Marines. There are several instances where Horne's uniform can be closely observed.

Horne is incorrectly wearing a Navy "dress white" uniform instead of a khaki-colored combat uniform. The layout of patches is highly inaccurate. Instead of wearing a name badge, he wears a patch displaying in all-caps the word "Navy". Horne's uniform displays three large stars above his right shirt pocket. Three naval stars commonly indicate the rank of Vice Admiral. The shoulder patches he wears are incorrect and are actually the patches of a New Zealand Naval Sub Lieutenant. Horne can be seen wearing full service medals on his uniform which would only be worn in ceremonies and not in combat.
