    Meh
I put this show on for background noise while I cleaned my house. Boy howdy, it delivered on that front. I wasn't expecting to like it, so I can't say whether I really liked or not. I'm kinda meh about it. But I did read one review here that was outraged over the "lesbian wedding" and stating how "those people need psychiatric help" and how they "shouldn't be on our streets" and blah blah blah. And all I can I say to that person is, I would rather have lesbians and people trying to turn their lives around on our streets than drug dealers and judgmental people like you.
  • Typically what this show is, is seeing on camera what will happen to you, if you choose to make bad choices, get involved in drugs and surround yourself with dangerous people.

Surprise! You do the wrong thing you end up in jail and/or prison.

"Jailbirds" shows you the woman, dealing and coming to terms with these life choices.

You can watch and judge them. Or you can be thankful that you've never been put in a situation that would lead you to living this lifestyle.
  • If your looking for a mindless watch and something reality based it's not so bad. It's basically like any other "prison program" you see on Discovery or NatGeo. Some of the stories are interesting. I've only watched a couple of episodes. I don't think you can watch much more than 1 or 2 at a time. It's sad because the majority of these inmates, especially the women are in for the root cause being drugs. I'd say that most just belong in some sort of long term drug program, but then again I'm sure most have been to those places before they got to jail. Anyway, it's not terrible. Nothing groundbreaking here.

I live in Sacramento and I found it insightful and very entertaining. Wish these women could change but unfortunately one commuted a crime recently at my company and if there is a season 2 she will make an appearance.
  • Warning: Spoilers
It's a decent show showing the lives of female inmates in Sacramento County, California jail. My main problem with the show is there isn't much backstory and there is zero follow through once the show wraps. In the first episode we are introduced to Yasmin, whose in for felony carjacking with $100,000 bail. By the middle of the second episode we never hear from her again. Two women named Shawn & Megan aka Monster gets released in the 4th & 5th episode, respectively. We never hear what happened to either one of them. Another woman named Jay got involved with drugs after her Mom passed away from Cancer. While serving her time her Dad passed away who was caring for her 4 year old son. What happens to the boy? We have no clue.
  • Couldn't help but binge watch this show, and if like me, you'll feel no sympathy for any of the inmates, and only sympathy for the education system that clearly failed them. I'd be surprised if a single one graduated grade 6, or a combined I. Q of 100.
  • Jailbirds appeared with no forewarning but has me desperately clinging to hope for a second season! We binged the first season over two days and we were captivated by the horrors and indeed the wonders of jail life! The show has been masterfully filmed and edited so you see everything from love, loss and betrayal to fighting, friendships... even a wedding! It's like a soap opera but then you remind yourself these are real women, not actresses... And all are criminals! You will learn simply mind-blowing things about life in jail including the amazing all-in-one waste disposal, "phone" system and cell-to-cell delivery system....! Jailbirds has been beautifully filmed for Netflix and a simply perfect soundtrack has been added to evoke plenty of emotion whilst following the female inmates! You will truly connect with the ladies as they struggle with relationships, turmoil and jail politics! I laughed, I cried, I was shocked but most of all I was thoroughly entertained and felt a real kinship with the ladies because of the skilful documentary-making here!
  • While I enjoyed this show overall, and it's easy to get sucked in and binge it if you like reality tv shows in general. It's over-edited though in the exact same way that some reality dating shows do in that they clip sentences together that the interview subject absolutely did not say. It is subpar audio editing and ends up just sounding off. In a captivating show like this the audio mess ups are more noticeable and pull you out of what's going on.
  • I watched the entire series in one sitting and was never really bored. I also laughed out loud and their brilliant and yet gross method of communicating with members of the opposite sex.

The only issue is that there isn't much of a backstory nor is there a follow-up on the inmates. We're just basically thrown into a story with not much of a beginning nor an end. The first episode shows a 19-year old girl in jail for carjacking and then by episode 2 there is no more mention of her. Um, what happened????

But still, it's quite entertaining and educational on how prison life is.
  • It was okay, its your typical documentary, scripted reality type stuff. And I somehow now have a crush on Megan Hawkins.... <3
  • I live in Sacramento and know several people that have been in and out of this jail! Find that the stories of the people in this documentary very interesting and wanted more after the sixth episode was over. Would love a season 2 Jailbirds to be released.
  • I live in Sacramento, and I thought it might be interesting to learn this ladies stories. I tried to have a open mind, but increasingly was annoyed at all the bad choices. I personally feel sad for the children these women left behind, and hope they're are being cared for.
  • I was very questionable about this show going in to it but it really makes you think. Throughout the show these convicts admit that they were wrong and admit what they did was not ethically right and they wanna be better and they show remorse what they did was wrong yes but please I implore you take a moment and put yourself in their shoes please give this show a try just please.
  • I love this show but it would be nice to learn how the inmates of this series ended up. It's like we get to learn why they are there and who is waiting for them on the outside we'll see them on one episode and then never again, and we never even learn if they made it out or if we do fins out we don't get to know if they stayed out.
  • Very interesting to see the inside of prison and what it's like. One of the best documentaries on prisons I've seen. Showed the human aspect of the men and women in jail which I liked.

It took a while to catch it, but this is scripted stuff like most of the so called "reality shows"

I really hope the inmates got something out of this. Somebody's making lots of money with this, and it ain't the ones deserving it.
  • If you've watched Lock Up the TV shows that were removed from Netflix then you'll love this show. It's only based from Sacramento County but still a good show. The love affair going on with one of the male inmates has the show making you want to watch it more

Thought it was amazing, an inside look at a women's jail, so interesting the way they get by , feel sad for a lot of them and wish they can turn their lives around. A lot of respect for the guards and people who work in this system can't be easy, I hope for season 2!

I loved this documentary, I watched 'Orange is the new black' and this was very similar. Obviously this was a real prison but the similarities were there.

Amazing stories and at times very touching. I binge watched it, I was hooked.

    I'm waiting for season 2?
  • Idk why ppl thing these women are cool. Haha it's almost as bad as the Paris Hilton TV shows. Entertaining to make fun of and background noise. Sad that ppl actually live this way. I hope these women have realized rock bottom and are seeking the real help they need.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I miss watching Locked Up and this is a good watch. It's purely entertaining seeing these people act like they never do anything. Yasmin icall to the bail bonds had me rolling 🤣🤣 she had no collateral and thought $800 with a payment plan was a thing 😂 Criminals are truly stupid individuals. They are willing the break the laws and cry (I WANNA GO HOME). Better yet the ones who say I'm going to change and go to college after this ..but you find out it's not their first or second time time. The law really has a lower standard for women. They get away with more but that makes the show the fun thing. Its so interesting to see the things they come with too. In the end you learn why not to go to jail/prison or you can use it as a starter kit for when you go yourself 😂
  • So many of these jail shows go downhill when the start interviewing the cameramen, guards, producers etc. So far this series is staying focused on the inmates which will allow it to keep ratings and stay around. Could use less focus on the more boring inmates and the rapping. But so far very compelling. Hopefully it will stay about the interesting (Nantes and ignore the guards and the guards boring narratives. The more interesting inmates tend to be the younger ones that have more to los4 and still have hope to rehabilitate and do well in life. It gets boring when the show talks at length to the lifers.
  • It gives you an overwhelming feeling of actually being in the jail cell with the inmates. It was extremely enticing to watch and I'm anticipated another season and more episodes!!!! Please?!!!
  • The inmates of the Sacremento County jail spend their days fishing for items through a network of contraband smuggling through the toliet, fighting, and looking obese ogresses as they file for appeals or await transfer for more permenant prison.

Live documentary reality series format as some enjoy rebahilitation back into society, or more permenant consequences of their ill deeds....
  • Need to go to RSW Regional jail in front royal va and do a season there.
