Ahead of SXSW next month, Amazon MGM Studios have released the official trailer for The Accountant 2, offering a first look at the return of 2x Academy Award-winner and former Batman actor Ben Affleck (Justice League; Argo; The Town) as the titular accountant and the Punisher himself Jon Bernthal (The Punisher; Daredevil: Born Again; The Wolf of Wall Street) as his equally lethal brother.
The film's synopsis reads, "Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) has a talent for solving complex problems. When an old acquaintance is murdered, leaving behind a cryptic message to “find the accountant,” Wolff is compelled to solve the case. Realizing more extreme measures are necessary, Wolff recruits his estranged and highly lethal brother, Brax (Jon Bernthal), to help. In partnership with U.S. Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), they uncover a deadly conspiracy, becoming targets of a ruthless network of killers who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried.

After starring alongside Sebastian Stan in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie is taking Captain America back to basics. Scheduled to hit the theatres on February 14, Mackie will grace the silver screen and officially take over Chris Evans’ mantle. But does he miss anything from his previous role as Falcon?
Anthony Mackie in Captain America: Brave New World | image: Marvel Studios
Well, there might be a few things that Anthony Mackie adored about his role as MCU’s Falcon, but surely not his outfit. To be more specific, it’s particularly his partial mask connected to a pair of goggles that bothered the actor way too much. So much so that Mackie literally refused to wear that ever again—not even for Captain America: Brave New World.

Ben Affleck is one of the leading actors in Hollywood, who has not just made a name for himself with his acting chops but also for his writing and directing talent. Over the years, Affleck has starred in and directed several acclaimed movies, which have gone on to rack millions of dollars in grossing. Maybe Anora was the frontrunner all along.
In the weeks since the Oscar nominations were announced, Oscar pundits and awards strategists have treated the wide-open Best Picture race like an adaptation of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, searching somewhat fruitlessly for a contender that felt “just right.” However, on Saturday night, Sean Baker won Best Director at the Directors Guild Awards, and about an hour later, Baker and his film took top honors at the Producers Guild Awards. What had been considered a toss-up is now trending back to where the consensus was throughout the fall.
How did we get here, and what comes next? Ahead, here are three takeaways from the big weekend for Anora.

Sean Baker’s ‘Anora’ Takes Top DGA & PGA Awards Prizes On Same Night – How This Could Predict Oscars

Updated with PGA win: Sean Baker won both the PGA Awards‘ and DGA Awards‘ top prizes for Neon’s Anora — on the same night. And if past statistics are a signifier of what’s to come, it is a major indicator for both the Oscars’ Best Director category as well as Best Picture.
Baker’s wild night started at the Beverly Hilton, where he won the Directors Guild’s top prize, the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film. He then raced to the Fairmont Century Plaza in Century City, where he picked up the PGA’s top trophy, the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, alongside his fellow producers Alex Coco and Samantha Quan.
Deadline confirmed that the PGA ceremony delayed its start to accommodate the Anora team, which was coming off taking the Best Picture prize Friday evening at the Critics Choice Awards.

“Anora” director Sean Baker has won the DGA Award for Theatrical Feature, gaining significant Oscar momentum ahead of final voting.
With its surprising best picture win at the Critics Choice Awards — its only prize of the night — the $6 million dramedy, which claimed the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, has solidified itself as a major contender in an unpredictable awards season.
“I feel like the luckiest guy in the world to be able to do thing I knew I wanted to do since I was 5 years old,” Baker told the crowd Saturday at the conclusion of the 77th annual DGA Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton.
A wide-open year has unfolded with plenty of twists and turns, including campaign controversies and surprising Oscar snubs like DGA nominee Edward Berger and recent Critics Choice shocking victor Jon M. Chu for “Wicked.”

Jennifer Garner revealed once that she wasn’t sure she wanted to do a movie that her ex-husband, Ben Affleck, was directing. However, she’d be more receptive to the idea if certain requirements were met.

Garner and Affleck aren’t strangers to working with each other. They did Pearl Harbor and Daredevil together. But after they became a couple, Affleck didn’t think it was a good idea to collaborate on-screen again. Especially after what he’d already experienced with ex Jennifer Lopez, where their relationship overshadowed Gigli.

Jennifer Lopez was once allegedly very close to the late Murder, Inc. founder Irv Gotti before their deep fallout. Reportedly, Gotti’s bond with Lopez was so strong that he was willing to defend her against former Death Row CEO Suge Knight.

One of the biggest urban myths in the music industry is that Knight possesses a sex tape featuring Lopez and her ex-boyfriend. Knight even reminded people these supposed tapes were still floating around, implying that they might’ve even been shown to Affleck. The hip-hop mogul theorized that law enforcement confiscated the tapes while raiding Diddy’s home, then exposed the tapes to the Argo star. Afterward, Affleck would never be able to look at Lopez the same again.

Oscars Best Adapted Screenplay breakdown: ‘Conclave’ is the favorite, but may have to face the music

Best Director gets more attention at the Oscars, but this millennium has shown the writing categories are potentially more important. In the past 15 years Argo (2012), Green Book (2018), and Coda (2021) won Best Picture without directing noms — but no film since Titanic (1997) has won without a writing nom. That could be good news for many of this year’s nominees for Best Adapted Screenplay. Four of the five are also up for the top prize. Here is our breakdown of the race as it stands today.

The gold-plated meltdown that has followed the revelation of Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofía Gascón’s past anti-Muslim and racist tweets — with anti-George Floyd and pro-Hitler sentiments thrown in — has now required numerous apologies/explanations from the Best Actress Oscar nominee. Gascón’s previous online remarks have seriously cratered the odds for her and her film, which is nominated for 13 Oscars. The journalist and podcaster who uncovered Gascón’s troubling social media posts insists it was good old-fashioned reporting and she was not a “studio plant” fueling a smear campaign underwritten by a rival nominee.
In any case Gascón’s self-inflicted mess is the latest example of an internet-powered scandal that has threatened to derail an Oscar campaign. Here’s a look at the four most notable examples this century and how they played out.

Ben Affleck is set to star in his upcoming Netflix thriller “Animals,” which he’s also directing. His longtime friend Matt Damon was originally slated to lead the film but had to depart due to scheduling conflicts with Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic “The Odyssey.”
“Animals” is aiming to begin production in Los Angeles this April, according to Deadline, who first reported the casting shakeup. Meanwhile, “The Odyssey” is expected to commence shooting in various global locations later in February.
Billy Ray, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “Captain Phillips,” “The Hunger Games” and AMC Theatres’ iconic Nicole Kidman ad, is penning the screenplay with Connor McIntyre. The crime thriller reportedly follows a mayoral candidate whose child is kidnapped.

Ben Affleck’s crime thriller Animals is coming back together, this time with a new star very familiar to the filmmaker. Himself.
Matt Damon was originally on board to star in Animals, with Affleck in the director’s chair, when Netflix and Artists Equity were producing the movie a year ago. In the meantime, however, Damon went on to sign on to star in a small movie titled The Odyssey that is being directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Christopher Nolan. “Back in Action” marks Cameron Diaz’s first on-screen role in more than 10 years, and also a reunion for her and Jamie Foxx, after they starred together in her last film, “Annie.”
But you’ll recognize more than just this duo. Here are the major players in “Back in Action.”

The Academy Awards have staged some iconic showdowns. Think of the tension around “La La Land” versus “Moonlight,” “12 Years a Slave” versus “Gravity” or “The Godfather” versus “Cabaret.” Each was a nail-biter that kept viewers on the edge of their seats. But what happens when six films — “Anora,” “The Brutalist,” “A Complete Unknown,” “Conclave,” “Emilia Pérez” and “Wicked” — are all serious contenders for Hollywood’s most coveted prize? Enter “The Year Without the Frontrunner,” as Variety aptly dubbed it.
So, what is the pathway for each contender?
With 13 nominations, “Emilia Pérez” seems to have the logical edge (although recent controversies could derail that assertion). It has key guild nods and below-the-line Oscar mentions. But in this unpredictable year, historical trends are no guarantee. Major upcoming ceremonies like DGA, PGA and SAG may clarify the race — or make it even messier.

In late December, Jennifer Lopez and Kevin Costner kicked the rumor mill into high gear when they were spotted shopping and spending time at the same locations in Aspen. A-listers swarmed the celebrity hotspot during the holiday season, but all eyes were on Lopez and Costner.

The village is small and dense, lined with crumbling structures and the exploded remains of cars. The women, hanging laundry or selling American movies on DVD out of dusty briefcases, are suspicious. The men are outright paranoid, ducking down alleys or peering out of second-story windows. American troops patrol the area with assault rifles, where IEDs and chemical weapons await them. It’s a hellish war zone, and it’s entirely fake.

Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz have been cast in guest star roles in an upcoming episode of “The Equalizer,” which could set up a potential spinoff based on their characters.
It was first reported in November that CBS was eyeing a spinoff of the Queen Latifah-led reboot of the 1980s action crime drama of the same name. Now, Welliver and Feliz will appear in episode 16 of the show’s ongoing fifth season with series regular options should the spinoff move forward.
Welliver will play Hudson Reed, described as “a former top CIA operative with a dark secret who is connected to Robin McCall (Queen Latifah) by an old mentor.” Feliz will play Samanta Reed, who is said to be “trained by her father to be a weapons expert, skilled martial artist and true chameleon all while hiding a mysterious past.”
Welliver is coming off of a decade-long stint playing the character Det.

William Goldenberg has been working as an editor for over 30 years, during which time he has collaborated with A-list directors like Michael Mann, Kathryn Bigelow, and Ben Affleck, whose “Argo” won the Oscar for best editing. Yet when the time came to direct his first feature, the inspirational sports drama “Unstoppable,” there was still one thing made Goldenberg apprehensive: working with actors.
“That was the thing I was most nervous about,” Goldenberg told IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit podcast. “Luckily for me, I got my first choice for everybody, and they’re all spectacularly good actors, so it’s not like I’m taking a first-time actor and trying to mold the performance. It was about making sure we’re all making the same film, that we all have the same goals and are trying to interpret the scenes in the same way.”

Long before Denzel Washington played the quietly lethal Robert McCall in the "Equalizer" movies, Edward Woodward portrayed the character on the original CBS TV series. "The Equalizer" aired on the network from 1985 to 1989 and starred Woodward as the retired intelligence agent who uses his skills to help bring justice to those who have been wronged in their day to day lives.
It's a remarkably durable formula that has not only birthed three Denzel-led movies (with fourth and fifth "Equalizer" movies already confirmed), but also a reboot series that stars Queen Latifah and which has run for five full seasons already. Each iteration of this franchise has brought something new to the table, but none of them could have existed without the original series from co-creators Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim.

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) has revealed its nominees for the upcoming 2025 awards, and it’s a high-stakes Oscar season, proven by the notable snubs and surprises. The five filmmakers contending for the prestigious DGA Award for Directorial Achievement in Feature Film are the following:
Jacques Audiard for “Emilia Pérez” Sean Baker for “Anora” Edward Berger for “Conclave” Brady Corbet for “The Brutalist” James Mangold for “A Complete Unknown”
It’s a category entirely of first-time DGA nominees. Most notably, this is significant for Mangold, who nabbed the first of his career for the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown,” which continues to pick up momentum coming after its haul at the SAG Awards noms. After helming films like “Walk the Line” (2005), “Logan” (2017) and “Ford v Ferrari” (2019), this piece of notoriety seemed long overdue.

The ending of Fox's "Bones" wasn't quite as dark as fans might have expected. However, its heroes' respective paths to a happy ending aren't what you'd call easy. Just ask John Boyd's James Aubrey, a young FBI agent who joins the main ensemble in season 10 and eventually establishes himself as Seeley Booth's (David Boreanaz) partner.
Over the course of his three seasons on the show, Aubrey starts out as a concerned and sometimes mistrusted semi-outsider who mostly gets a pass because Lance Sweets (John Francis Daley) vouches for him. He then rises to his own after Sweets' untimely death and becomes a key member of the team for the remainder of the series. During this time, Aubrey receives grievous injuries, deals with serious family troubles, and even ends his high-profile relationship with Jessica Warren (Laura Spencer) just as the show draws to a close -- although, true to the...

James Gunn’s Dcu is officially underway and it is high time a few casting choices are made for some key characters in the universe. The filmmaker and co-chief of DC Studios has maintained that no greenlight will be given for a project unless it has a solid script and seems to be giving time to set up solo films. However, all of them need to lead up to a huge villain.
Josh Brolin, who played Thanos in the MCU, recently shared a fanart of himself in the design of Darkseid. This fueled the rumors that Brolin was still in talks with Gunn after he refused the offer to play Hal Jordan a.k.a Green Lantern in the Dcu. While casting Brolin as Darkseid, who is basically DC’s Thanos is not a good choice, there are other actors who fit the bill.

2010’s The Town is currently trending on Hulu and remains one of Ben Affleck’s best crime thrillers. Though the popular director’s Oscar win with Argo can often overshadow his other films, Affleck's early crime movies hold their weight against his recent releases. The Town was the actor’s second adapted screenplay and director role, helping establish Affleck’s reputation as one of Hollywood’s most skilled players.
Arguably one of the best heist movies, The Town presents a nuanced performance where he portrays a criminal in Charlestown aching for a way out. Doug McRay’s life comes spiraling out when, after robbing a bank, he falls in love with the woman aiding the FBI to pin his friend to the crime. The Town’s theatrical and alternate endings have the tension escalate and live up to the rest of the film, which is now a streaming stand-out even after 15 years.

Two of Ben Affleck's best movies of the 2010s have landed on a major streaming chart. Ben Affleck is a major movie star whose works have cumulatively grossed more than $6 billion worldwide. Although he began his career as a child actor and starred in well-known early 1990s projects including Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused, his breakout role came when he and Matt Damon co-wrote and co-starred in the 1997 Gus Van Sant movie Good Will Hunting, which earned them a joint Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
Other Ben Affleck and Matt Damon collaborations have hit screens since their original success, including The Last Duel, Dogma, and Air. However, Affleck has also become well-known outside of that partnership, both as an actor and director. One of his most prominent onscreen roles has been playing Batman in DC Extended Universe movies including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

Ben Affleck rose above his image as a blockbuster actor and became an acclaimed filmmaker with the historical drama Argo. It was not his first stint at direction, with two critically appreciated films already in his kitty, but Argo became a surprise hit and even won the Oscar for Best Picture.
Despite his award-winning vision and eye for detail, Affleck was reportedly not involved until a script was written. When he received the screenplay for Argo, Affleck apparently had one huge change to suggest and that might have just won it the Oscar.

Did Batman & Robin teach George Clooney an important lesson? ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia )
Yes, the infamous 1997 superhero flick that tanked both critically and commercially wasn’t just a low point for fans but also for George Clooney himself. And yet, the Caped Crusader’s stumble became the ultimate turning point. Clooney didn’t just reflect on the flop—he flipped the script on his career.
“It’s really easy to pick: Batman & Robin. That’s not a joke,” he admitted. “Up until that moment, I was an actor only concerned with finding work. After the failure of that film creatively, I understood that I needed to take control of the films I made, not just the role.”
What followed was nothing short of a Hollywood masterclass. Clooney traded bat-nipples for brilliance, delivering knockout performances in Out of Sight, Three Kings, and O Brother, Where Art Thou?. These weren’t...

Ben Affleck's career as a filmmaker and actor has become a series of rises and falls. One of his peaks was from 2007 to 2012, when he pivoted to directing, won people back, and capped it off with a Best Picture win for "Argo."
Affleck's second film is 2010's "The Town," where he plays bank robber Doug MacRay, who falls for bank teller Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall) after his crew takes her hostage during a heist. And you thought your parents had a wild "how we first met" story! The town in the title is Charlestown, a Boston neighborhood that once had a reputation for a high amount of robberies. Supporting characters include Doug's unhinged right hand James "Jem" Coughlin (Jeremy Renner), Jem's needy sister Krista (Blake Lively), and FBI Agent Adam Frawley (Jon Hamm) who thinks he's the yuppie Melvin Purvis.
"The Town" is based on the 2004 novel "Prince of Thieves" by Chuck Hogan.

Here’s why Ben Affleck felt ashamed of his Batman performance ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia )
Ben Affleck’s run as Bruce Wayne started in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), which focused on dark tones and even darker moods. Affleck bulked up, donned a trench coat, and punched baddies like a brick podium with a vengeance. That post-apocalyptic dream sequence? Peak Batfleck, complete with goggles, a scarf, and no cape. It was supposed to be remarkable. It ended up hilarious.
Justice League (2017) brought more chaos, both on-screen and off. Affleck’s Batman went from brooding killer to awkward punchline between reshoots, rewrites, and a Joss Whedon takeover. “Yeah, something is bleeding,” he muttered after Superman tossed him aside like a crumpled Batarang. It was supposed to be funny. Instead, it was painfully sad—a tired Batman, played by an actor whose exhaustion felt all too real.

Ben Affleck’s run as Bruce Wayne started in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), which focused on dark tones and even darker moods. Jharrel Jerome rubbed his chin while recalling a phone call with college wrestling champ Anthony Robles. The conversation occurred four years ago as Jerome was preparing to play Robles in the film “Unstoppable” (opening Dec. 6).
“Covid had shut us down in pre-production, and I was giving Anthony words of encouragement that we would tell his story,” Jerome told TheWrap. “I made this promise and told him, ‘As long as I have this baby face on me, I’m going to play you in this movie. Even if I’m 35 years old, I’ll age down.’ And I meant it. When you get to know Anthony, stuff like this becomes really personal.”
Jerome, the star of “I’m a Virgo” and “When They See Us,” was true to his promise and even finished “Unstoppable” before his 30s (He turned 27 in October). Based on Robles’ own sports memoir, the movie traces his journey from high school to college,...
