Young Kreese and the other captured members of his team stand in a prisoner cage, and the guards take two of the prisoners to a nearby bridge over a pit. Terry Silver / "Twig" still blames himself for their capture, and Kreese tells him to get his shit together and only worry about survival. The guards cheer as the two prisoners on the bridge fight.
Turner speaks up from inside the cage and tells Kreese that it is his fault. The captain says that there is no rank, and it's every man for himself. One fighter tosses the other one into the pit, and the guards cheer. They take the surviving fighter back to the cage, and close the door behind him, and he tells the others that he had to do it and the depth of the pit is isn't the worse of it.
Now
At the country club's holiday party, Daniel and Amanda arrive and Daniel says that it's tradition that they have to be there. Amanda goes to get them a table, and Daniel goes to the bar and gets drinks. Ali sees him, comes over, and greets him. Daniel congratulates her on how she's looking, and he hears Johnny complaining at a waiter who almost bumped him with a tray full of spaghetti. Ali calls Johnny over, and reintroduces him to Daniel, and says that it's a West Valley reunion. Johnny and Daniel exchange sarcastic barbs, and Ali realizes that the two of them have met since high school.
At the LaRusso house, Sam tells the gathered students that they have to work together. Chris insists that it would never work, and Mitch argues. As he and Bert get up to leave, Demetri calls them "pussies" and says that Cobra Kai wants them divided. He tells them that Cobra Kai is the worse assholes in the valley, run by the worst asshole of all, and they'd be assholes not to merge. Mitch and Bert come back, and Demetri asks where they start.
Johnny and Daniel tell Ali what has happened, though the former plays a little loose with the details. Ali mentions that she and Johnny had lunch, and Johnny takes satisfaction and telling Daniel what they've done and how they met up. Daniel and Johnny continue squabbling, and Amanda comes over and Daniel introduces her to Ali. The two women are eager to exchange notes about Daniel and his time in high school, and Amanda asks if she's been told about the "mortal enemy karate dojo battle for the soul of the Valley" that has been happening.
The two groups agree to train at the Miyagi-Do dojo, but are deadlocked on other things. Bert goes out the kitchen door when he hears a cat, except the LaRussos don't have one. Bert is then thrown through the window by the Cobra Kai members, led by Hawk and Kyler. Kyler is looking for payback on Miguel, while Tory and two more students come in through the front door. Miguel tells Tory that she doesn't have to do it, but she yells "No mercy!" A fight breaks out.
At the club, the two couples sit at a table and the two women talk about Daniel and Johnny. Ali says that the two men left each other alone after the tournament, and Johnny wants to hear Ali say why she broke up with Daniel. Daniel saw Ali talking to a male friend from UCLA, and he read their conversation the wrong way. Ali admits that she egged Daniel on, and Daniel insists that he thought the guy was in love with Ali. What's more is that she warned him the brakes on Mr. Miyagi's car were bad. Johnny says that it's the best story he ever heard, and Ali offers to talk about how bad a boyfriend was. They all agree that they were jerks in high school, and Ali hopes that their kids are more evolved than they were.
The melee at the LaRusso home continues. Daniel and Johnny's students are holding their own but they're facing some aggressive fighters. When Tory and Sam come face-to-face, Sam backs away into the dojo and Tory chases her, beating up any opponent in her path. She kicks her down, expecting more of a fight. She picks up a pair of nunchucks.
Amanda and Ali hug as they leave, and Amanda leaves. Daniel and Johnny continue squabbling, and Ali tells them that they both think there's only one side to the story. She says that there's Daniel's side, Johnny's side, and the truth. The truth is more alike than they want to admit, and don't like the part of themselves that they see in the other.
Johnny admits that it's possible some small part of this was his fault. Daniel makes a similar admission, and he leaves on that. He tells Ali that he had a great time, and she's happy that she saw him and tells him not to screw up what he has with Amanda. Daniel starts to apologize for how things ended between them, and Ali just says that they were young and the good times outweighed the bad. They hug, and Daniel and Johnny exchange Christmas wishes before Daniel leaves.
Tory keeps coming at Sam, but when she smashes a portrait of Mr. Miyagi, Sam hears her father's encouraging words and arms herself with a bo staff.
In the house, Miguel fights Kyler. Kyler knocks Miguel down and high-fives Hawk, who looks around and sees the devastation. Two Cobra Kai students pin Demetri and invite Hawk to kick his former friend. He takes them down instead, apologizes to Demetri for all of it, and they join forces to take on the Cobra Kai students.
Kyler beats Miguel, who rallies when he sees Hawk and Demetri together. He remembers Johnny's motivating words, and manages to defeat Kyler, knocking him unconscious. The champ is back.
Sam and Tory continue fighting, and Sam finally disarms Tory and says that she's not afraid of her. Hawk, Miguel, and Demetri, and Hawk tells Tory that it's over. She says that it never will be over, calls Hawk and Miguel traitors, and leaves.
Johnny and Ali leave the club, and Ali asks about Carmen when Amanda told her. He says that Carmen is amazing, and admits that he's still trying to figure out his relationship with her. Ali assures him that he didn't screw things up, and thanks him for making her feel like a kid again. She says that they can't live in the past permanently, and they both agree that they have to embrace the present and the future. They say that they both know the other will be happy, and hug.
They both say that they needed it, and a valet brings Johnny's '93 Dodge Caravan up. Johnny offers to give Ali a lift, but she says that she has to find her parents. Ali tells Johnny that she'll always be there for him, and he has a future to find. Johnny agrees and goes.
Johnny arrives back at the apartment complex, figures that he's ready to tell Carmen that he loves her, and knocks at her door. She opens the door and Johnny sees a wounded Miguel behind her, and asks what happened.
